  1. I find it odd that Ornette, who records so sparsely, for whatever reason, would have chosen System Dialing to release a new album. Also strange that you have Ornette on a record for your new label and you don't have that plastered all over the album cover.
  2. jcam, let me know how you go with that one if you get a chance. Have come close to picking it up a couple of times but it gets mixed reviews. A solo Sonny disc is mighty tempting. Will let you know my impressions when it arrives. I didn't realize the album was so poorly regarded. Either way, I'm looking forward to hearing it. I understand that Youtube has the ability to provide a preview, but to me that kills the joy of discovery.
  3. I've had good luck with discogs for the most part. Of probably 2 dozen orders only one item never arrived and I got a refund. Although I am waiting for an album right now that is taking its sweet time.
  4. I'll keep an eye out for you, not ready to part with mine.
  5. It's cut like the suit Kingpin from Spider-Man wears.
  6. I doubt this will amount to the type of fight I'd like to see, and I feel bad for whichever party is in the right, and thus has to prove it... but I find this entertaining.
  7. Sonny Rollins - The Solo Album
  8. I saw this a couple days ago and assumed it was on the darker side of shady. Its pretty cheap too.
  9. good read. having seen him a few years back, although a short set, transcendent is an applicable description.
  10. Given Ornette's past pension to demand proper compensation for his work, I lean towards Ornette not authorizing this as a release. There is obviously some form of deceptive marketing by the label if you can purchase the 192/24 Studio Masters, but these were indeed impromptu/teaching sessions and not actual studio sessions. And there are handheld recorders that record in 192/24 and sound really good, which I have a feeling these probably are.
  11. Last night: Abdullah Ibrahim w/ Carlos Ward - Live at Sweet Basil vol.1 (there was never a vol.2 right?) and Jackie McLean - A Ghetto Lullaby (Inner City pressing)
  12. Sonny Criss - Crisscraft
  13. Rockbeat's James Booker release is excellent1
  14. No fees to worry about when shipping to the US.
  15. Charles Williams - Charles Williams (mainstream 1971)
  16. Onzy Matthews - Mosaic Selects
  17. two treats in store there. 'Weaving Symbolics' has a variety of line-up sizes not seen elsewhere in his discography I'm most excited about that one. It's been on my wishlist for 3 years and finally pulled the trigger. I think there are only 3-4 titles of his as leader I need now. and I'm still waiting on Synovial Joints here....patience is running thin Haha, just ordered this (the download from m-base isn't enough to feed my collector needs). Down to 3 titles now i think... Steve Coleman and Five Elements - The Ascension to Light

  19. Steve Coleman and Five Elements - Weaving Symbolics and Steve Coleman and Five Elements - On The Rising Of The 64 Paths filling out my Steve Coleman collection with a couple french imports that I finally found at decent prices. Just waiting for them to arrive now.
  20. By that logic, music should not be purchased second-hand if still available.
  21. Much better read is his downbeat interview http://www.downbeat.com/digitaledition/2015/DB1505/24-25.html
  22. I picked Alms/Tiergarten (Spree) up about a year ago and still haven't given it a proper listen. Was just thinking about it earlier after looking at this thread. May try to give it a spin tonight to report back.
  23. I had purchased the Gigi Gryce one. Sounded terrible. Got rid of it.
