  2. Thanks. I read the article but when I tried to find in on amazon I couldn’t. Now I know why
  3. Cover photo by Pierpaolo Ferrari
  4. Album Catalog No. Black Note - 43rd & Degnan WSR 1011 Charles McPherson - Illusions In Blue * WSR 1012 Robert Stewart - Judgement WSR 1013 WSR 1014 The Philippe Vieux Qt. - Point of Vieux WSR 1015 Faye Carol - The Flow WSR 1016 * Based on the Robert Stewart insert, it lists Illusions In Blue as catalog No. 1012. The Chazz Jazz (McPherson's label) release has a 1990 copyright date, which would pre-date it to the World Stage Records labels first release in 1991. There are a couple interesting articles about this album archived with LA Times, where it seems Charles had a dispute with the venue that some songs were recorded at. All the article list dates that indicate the Chazz Jazz release was after 1990 since it doesn't seem it had quite been released in 1991, but was available in 1993: April 2nd, 1991 article, April 23rd,1991 article, June 2nd, 1993 article. I honestly have no idea what to make of all this but its interesting.
  5. Not my cup but their documentary is amazing.
  6. pm sent Nate Wooley
  7. Thats interesting, I own Illusions In Blues on Chazz/Jazz label and its copyright date is 1990 and states its a live recording but doesn't list the location. Possible it was reissued by World Stage 3 years later I supposed. Chazz/Jazz appears to have been located in La Jolla, CA, so the SoCal proximity leads to this being a possibility as well. Thanks!!!!! I believe the stream of the album Robert has on Youtube for judgement states it was reissued by Red.
  8. Does anyone know what albums were released on Billy Higgins label World Stage records. The only 3 I have been able to find are: Black Note - 43rd and Degnan Robert Stewart - Judgement and Philippe Vieux QT - Point of Vieux I'm wondering if anyone has any info on other releases. I haven't had any success researching on the internets
  9. My two favorite solo albums are: Steve Coleman - Invisible Paths and Vinny Golia - Solo Vinny's album "Clarinet" is also wildly entertaining, which I didn't expect for a clarinet hahaha. Nate Wooley has quite a collection of solo trumpet recordings my favorite being "Wrong Shape To Be A Storyteller". Syllables 8 and 9 are quite good too. William Parker "Lifting Sanctions" is excellent. Parker has a lot as well," Crumbling in the Shadows..." is a 3 disc box set that in the past was pretty cheap, $20 to $25, and I recommend that too
  10. I've been burning through the Art Pepper - Live at Village Vanguard for the past few days
  11. I used to love AAJ. After it went down a couple years ago for extended periods I started to visit less and less
  12. My shipping status is the same as yours.
  13. I pre-ordered this when I saw it yesterday. I hope it actually comes out Friday like Amazon has it slated for. Saw on Dusty Groove a January date
  14. Sweet! Thank you for the clarification. I've seen these in the past, though I was unaware of this particular recording. I'll get the MP3 when I get home. The previous recordings That help me stumble upon these were the Stooges Brass Band ones.
  15. Have you ever purchased any of these releases? They always seemed a bit suspect to me...
  16. Was looking for something new to listen to as I was losing interest in the direction hip hop was going. This cover intrigued me, still think its such a powerful image, and it ended up being the perfect bridge into "jazz" for me.
  17. I agree. As an artist this seems like a fair proposition, and a reasonable way to keep cost down while still getting a physical product.
  18. I've got 30 albums with Ivo as leader. I personally love his work, but honestly his recent output is impossible to keep up with. And its put me off from buying them. There is just too much music to dedicate this much time and money to him. He does put together some of the most interesting collectives of artists/instruments of any artists.
  19. Recently I've seen Ingrid Laubrock & Tom Rainey Vinny Golia Quartet w/ Steve Adams, Matt Small and John Hanes Gregory Porter Joshua White + Codes w/ Dwight Trible, Ralph Moore, Dean Hulett, and Jonathan Pinson Rudresh Mahanthappa's Bird Call w/ Adam O'Farrill, Joshua White, Thomas Kneeland, and Dan Weiss Its been a good run recently. Hoping to catch Gavin Templeton Quartet this Friday too
  20. Handy's opening solo is incredible. I have listened to it on repeat for an entire commute before (1 hr + on the train)
  21. Christian Scott - Yesterday You Said Tomorrow Kenny Dorham - Quiet Kenny Vinny Golia - One, Three, Two John Handy - Live at Monterey Jazz Festival Tyshawn Sorey - Koan Phil Woods - Live at the Showboat and Steve Coleman - Invisible Paths: First Scattering This was really hard
  22. I was down there last year with no luck. Don't remember which shops we wandered through but I made no purchases
  23. + Brad Dutz - Railroads (awesome album) and Fred Hess - How 'Bout Now
