No, unfortunately I didn't, or at least not the whole trio itself. I have seen family members play apart from each other at the uitmarkt in Amsterdam, as a guest elsewhere. I would have loved to have seen them with their tour with Herman van Veen. He's my favourite singer here. He wrote a song with multiple time measure varying from 5/8, 6/8 to 9/8 and back which he did with them. I still have that song on my wishlist to sing since it has such striking lyrics. The Rosenberg trio is amazing here as you can hear. Enjoy! edit: Since most of you won't understand the lyrics, I''l explain. It is about people being different but you can love them with their differences each in a different way. This doesn't mean you love the one any less or more than the other, just different. So a bit like there is room for all in your heart Yeah, corny right, busted. I'm a sucker for a beautiful phrase.

Hi seeline, he says not, but he's looking into the other options. That one doc in Belgium has a few methods which helped people. Looking at your link I think there is a whole generation growing up right now who will get tinnitus for sure because of those head phones. Also this dance music hype can't do any good to young people regarding their ears. Thanks for the link.

It is okay to quote a few sentences, Duane. As long as you use the quotation marks and say where it comes from. I'd like to know where you got it from and read it again. As for forum rules as mentioned, I think copyright has been violated many times at this board let alone for all the pictures used on several threads without noted where they are from and who the photographer is/was. So that could cause trouble with copyright law. Knowing you, you only wanted to inform all of us with the sad news.

Not that often Dutch writers get their work translated in English and are published in the U.S.. I saw an item on a documentary of this one: http://www.amazon.com/Music-Netherlands-Antilles-Antilleans-Caribbean/dp/1628461853/ref=sr_1_1/190-4433026-3444916?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1423418469&sr=1-1 Jan Brokken: The Music of the Netherlands Antilles: Why Eleven Antilleans Knelt before Chopin's heart Chopin's music 'translated' to the Caribean. Chopin was already my favourite composer at age 10. I've enjoyed this docu and thought you might enjoy the book which comes with an cd. I'm going to order the original Dutch edition. Hope you'll enjoy. Regards, page.

So, I've been looking at how to translate the method I saw at that program. Since it has all kinds of medical terms I've decided that it would be best to look for an English written website in which this is explained. Here it is explained. The doctor who has been using this method is situated in Belgium. http://www.braininnovations.nl/engels.php I ran into another method as well. Last year a dj explained how he was helped by wearing some kind of noise hearing aid. He was helped in Belgium as well, although it was at another hospital. The above method is used in Antwerp; this last is used in Gent. I'll look whether I can find a link to that one as well so you all can read about it. Hope this will help some of you. My friend and I are going to visit some seminars if we are going to be able to get in as indivuals. (Sometimes it is just for doctors and professionals of course). Thanks all for telling your personal stories and info. Kind regards, page

Man, I can't believe I didn't recognize Gunhild! I have several of her arrangements which she has so kindly shared. (She does sing too, I'm not going to try her trombone parts.) I didn't know about this album though. And that I missed the Rosenberg trio. :banghead: I was very curious about nr. 18 which struck me as lovely. Re Ella, I did take note of the things she called out, but I didn't recognize her. Thanks again for a lovely BFT Alex, it has been fun! Kind regards, page

I've had the flu for a few days already and so far I'd figure I shouldn't touch any alcohol. Right now I'm letting some red port wine ease my throat. I'll probably regret this in the morning, but right now it gives some comfort. -
Happy Birthday!

Wow! You have a lovely collection, Alex. Ik ben jaloers!

I have a request: Can we make the link for te new BFT just by pm again next time? Now I'm a bit disappointed for partly seeing alex his answers by accident since I didn't know the link was replaced already. (I don't get e-mail notification since I do not want to receive the answers to prevent to accidently seeing them that way). Now I feel like I'm cheating even though I didn't really read his post. Kind regards, page

Just on our evening news. We have been tipping less the past few years due to the economical crises. The average is 4 %.

I tend not to pay more than $15-$18 for my food if I can help it. One thing is I usually cook at home, or eat the cooking of my partner. But not eat my cooked partner. That last is especially good to know. I cook at home all the time. $15-$18 that would be hard to find around here at a restaurant. We do have what we call dinnercafé's which can have good food for a reasonable price, but that is usually more than that. I guess the definition of "good" is going to vary wildly from one person to the next, but I'd say $25-$45 usually gets you a pretty damned good entree. The $15-$18 range Clifford notes above can as well. Tastes and budget factors in. My wife and I don't eat out often, and have fairly adventurous tastes, so we don't mind spending a little more, if it's highly recommended. But, like Clifford, we usually do all of our own cooking. And with my wife being just shy of a master chef, we tend to be really picky about where we eat out. Well, good is subjectiv of course but for me that is to have vegetables to go with the meat I order, (or fish or vega) and not just 3 beans on top. My experience is that the food got more expensive while you'll get less (in quality as well as quantity) on your plate in most restaurants here.

Can I ask what the average price is of a main course (one you consider a good meal) in the US? Going out to dinner has become expensive these last few years.

Brad, thanks. While this thread is about the troubles of my friend, I do recognize the effect of colds. Right now I have a touch of flu and my left ear really hurts. My friend knows it is best not to focus on it and that is what he has been trying to do so far. Of course some days that is going better than other days. Seeline, nice to see you here! Sorry to hear you do suffer tinnitus as well. I'll make sure to tell my friend about the yawning, I should have thought of that myself. 2 years ago I got operated on my sinuses and then I did notice that everything in your face is really so tight connected, it does influence the way you feel instantly when something is wrong with just a small part. Thanks for the sympathy. Apparently this week there is special attention for this subject in my country, I didn't know that, but they named a week after it to call attention to this problem which so many people suffer from. I saw a program with a doctor from Belgium who has helped a few people with some kind of machine placed in the body. The idea is to mislead braincells which he says produce a sound since they are bored because of a hearing loss. A bit like feeling an itch on a leg or fingers that have been amputed. I'll have to think of how to tell you all and translate correctly, so I need a bit of time for that. The method is not proofed to be succesful yet so health insurance companies won't pay for the costs. it has shown effectiv for some people though. I'll let you know what I will find out and try to translate it.

Thanks for the replies all. Sorry to hear more people have these problems! Happy to hear all of your advice. Paul, what surprises me is that I still so many musicians don't wear any ear protection. The conductor of the big band I was in had the same custom made ones I had but after some time he stopped wearing them since he'd rather do without. Allen, dizziness does have to do with your vestibular system which is situated in the inner ear, so I'm not really surprised that that can be a side effect too. As someone who has to deal with motion sickness I've always had trouble with my ears at those times too.

Hi Colinmce, sorry to trouble you but could you please do it some other way besides this too? The first click there I got a sex related website and I hate it when my e-mail address will get that kind of spam through this. Kind regards, page

Hi all, i couldn't find a specific thread about this topic, so please excuse me if there is one. I don't have tinnitus myself, or at least I don't think so. My left ear sometimes hurts and I think that did start when a friend shouted in my ear during a concert, but it could be caused by colds which I do have regularly. I have been really careful. I have been wearing custom made earplugs for a couple of years and I wear them when I'll have to perform (especially with a big band) but also when I go to a concert myself. My eartubes are really small but they were just big enough to make me custom made earplugs which I'm really happy with. I could recommend it to anyone, especially musicans since you can use them during performing and still hear the nuances of the music to be able to play the way you want. I have a friend though who has tinnitus. He has told me it first started in 1986, so that's for a long time. Not really caused by going to concerts he thinks, since he hasn't really done loud ones. Lately it has gotten really bad and it seems to get worse. The sounds he hears are getting louder. It is causing him a lot of pain. He has been to doctors and apparently nothing can be done about it. He isn't a professional musican, but he does play the piano, loves to play. Now even that sound is too much and he has to play his keyboard. He always has music on when I'm there and he says he does that to try to not just hear that awful sound in his head. My question: if you have tinnitus too, how are you dealing with it? Is there something you can do to relieve the pain a bit. How do you manage to keep playing? I feel awful for my friend and really want to help him when I can. Thank you for your time reading and any suggestions you might have. Kind regards, page

Online Resource for Typical Keys of Standards
page replied to Teasing the Korean's topic in Musician's Forum
Hi Allen, thanks. So the same as the RB. I did this song with a big band and there the arrangement was in Eb. I want to take it to a session but usually I check first whether I can sing a song in the key the musicians are used to. -
