  1. I just saw and listened to a historian analyse behaviour of our fans and how it came about. The way they dress and so on. He said people abroad think that we are that nationalistic but that it is due more to a feeling of togetherness that we wear orange at an event like the WC, it is something that bonds us. We just borrowed the colour of our Royals and act silly but feel gentle. I have always felt it like that. People dress up really weird and we in fact we make a fool of ourselves but it also makes us feel closer together. I thought it to be very interesting to learn where things like that come from, the rituals and habits of a nation.
  2. Yes, I immediately had to think of him too when Tim pointed at his eye. Hans used to do that. I remember Edwin van der Sar asked for his advice at some point on how to act. It really is a phychological game they say. I don't know whether you guys have noticed but Tim got the shots in the right direction even with the ones he missed, I think that was really remarkable. Maybe that was luck, I don't know. Maybe he can grow to become as good as Hans van Breukelen was, I hope so. It was a nerve wrecking game to watch. And what a pity Belgium didn't make it yesterday. I think we can expect a royal visit for the players on wednesday. Argentina would love that too I'll bet.
  3. JIPPIE!!! Yeah, me too. I agree about Arjen, he played fabulous today as did Dirk. Our hero of the day is Tim though, a life saviour!
  4. You too! Hope it will be enjoyable indeed.
  5. Yeah, I'll keep my fingers crossed for both teams. So is everyone dressed in orange in Haarlem today too, erwbol? Are you going to watch at home, or somewhere in the city? I'm not sure yet myself. The opponent team decided to complaint about Robben in advance, talking about tactics.
  6. Hi Van Basten II, with a name like yours, I'll have to ask. Do you have Dutch origin? I suppose you remember the game in 88? I agree a cup without Germany would be weird eventhough there is always this thing hanging between our two countries. I don't think that will ever go away. France-Algeria was a terrific game. I feel bad for my Algerian friend, and those players had it particularly tough because of the Ramadan. I admire that. regards, page Am actually from Montreal and am a French fan, the reason for my nickname is first I actually admired a lot the player but the symbolism for my nickname on a board like this is that the character I am on this board is a lot like he (MVB) was to me in my life, I've heard a lot about him but I saw unfortunately little of him, as futbol took a long time before being available in an easy fashion (as it is right now) on the air around here. So besides the WC that were broadcast starting in 82 it was not that easy to follow action from Europe, think the first Euro broadcasted here was the 92 Euro. Ah I see. Maybe it is a weird thing to say about a soccer player but for me I always felt he had an elegant sort of way of moving across the field. I can't really describe it other than as a sort of natural pliableness if that is the correct word. There haven't been too many players like him here since. I would say Dennis Bergkamp came close to his style and maybe Ruud van Nistelrooy. He had bad luck with injuries or he would have achieved much more. He's a coach now at one of the clubs.

I always like John Kelman's reviews and he is a pretty gifted photographer too. Dom Minasi still writes for them too, pretty sharp insight on certain subjects. I remember an article he wrote on teaching f.e. I don't think I know Broomer.
  10. I've watched the first episode for you and payed close attention to the translation. It is pretty accurate. I would translate a few sentences slightly different but there were no big issues. I really like the Flemish and watch Belgian series regularly, they have a lovely way of expressing things. So far I've recognized just a few actors, one of them the main character who I have seen in more series and quite liked. The series probably have been broadcasted in The Netherlands as well, but I have missed it at that time apparently. There are a lot of collaborations in tv between Flenders and Holland, in which they share costs and actors The scene is in Brussels. The French on this episode seemed correct too, as far as I could tell. My Dutch is much better than my French. The screenwriter won a lot of prizes in the past and both him and the director have produced more succesful series. I plan to watch the next episode myself. Hope you'll enjoy the series. Kind regards, page
  11. I've been trying to put my poetry to jazz the last couple of years. Don't know whether I succeeded, just that it feels good. I like limericks, I don't write them that often myself, I do like yours. I've written all my life, it started with diaries, but I've always liked poems to read and to write. I have only been writing in English these last couple of years. My poems are just thoughts, so they can come in any kind of form, regular or irregular. Sometimes I put them to music, sometimes I just leave them thoughts. This one below, is part of a little song. "Reach.. your hand on the pane, so I can attain, mine on yours..." © 2013 page
  12. Happy to hear she's doing all right. Have fun at that party! Health is the greatest good you can have and celebrations make you realize it even more! Enjoy each other! Take care, kind regards, page
  13. For me everything starts with the melody. It is what sticks with me. I can fall for a melancholy in a tune and I simply can't forget it. It is like it haunts me or something. For a tune to stick or make it recognizable, I think the harmony does have everything to do with it too. A harmony can so much support a melody that it actually can make or break a tune. I do feel like the melody is the most important thing though. It is the story, the phrase gives you the emotion, the feel. The harmony supports that by emphasizing (is that a word?) the mood, the atmosphere. I'm still lin the middle of learning about harmonies but I can hear that I need to choose my changes carefully to make them support the words I chose in my lyrics to express the emotion I want with them and make them to be felt true by the listener.
  14. Well like I've said before I really enjoyed your BFT. I can't believe I didn't recognize You'd be so nice and Afro Blue. I need a banghead smiley here. I'm definitely looking into the ones I discovered in my search and Rex and Momo I liked so much but didn't hear of before. Ha, I see I didn't recognize Joe Pass. The great thing about these BFT's is they make you listen to music another way. You discover things about artists you know you didn't knew and you discover artists that touch a spot in your sould you didn't know it was there. Thanks again, M.G. Looking forward of digging deeper into these. Kind regards, page
  15. It doesn't have to sound just alike for me. I usually fall first for emotion in a voice (or any other instrument) whether that is caused by how someone phrases or that there is something in the voice itself that makes it sound true to me. I believe I hear both of those with her. Thanks again, page
  16. Ah, I feel terribly sad hearing about this. I am a big fan of hers. "'Lying, thinking, last night; how to find my soul a home, where water is not thirsty and bread loaf is not stone. I came up with one thing and I don't believe I'm wrong; that nobody, but nobody, can make it out here alone." from 'Alone' - Maya Angelou R.I.P. dear Maya
  17. Wait a minute no 15 The thrill is gone (Rick Darnell, Roy Hawkins)? I have sung it at a session, I think it could be it. btw Shadows of Paris took my breath away so I will certainly look into more of the Shirley Scott trio! page
  18. "02. Gloria Lynn – Secret O’ life (James Taylor) album: From my heart to yours (2007) Highnote Records, Inc. Beautiful song, James Taylor is a true poet, yes I love that. I could recommend the documentary about this place called the Troubadour which shows his musical history and music. Gloria Lynn does a great job on this one. [l)Yes! Gloria Lynne. One of my favourite singers. Boing! Boing! Boing![/l)" Yeah, she's great. I must look into her. "03. a bossa, I know this song or at least heard it before. Really nice. I love bossas, one of my favourite styles in music to sing and listen to. [l)Yes this is a well known bossa.[/l) 04. funky, a bit R & B influence, nice beginning. I think I know this song too, at least I recognize the melody. [l)I should hope a singer would recognise the tune [/l)" My mind doesn't seem to come up with any of the two. I suddenly thought " A day in the life of a fool/Manha de Carnaval for no. 4, since it seems part of the changes are the same, but it doesn't seem to be it. The saxplayer does a lot of "jodeling", or at least I call it when singer sings that way. It is why I commented a link to R & B. It is hard to completely determine the melody that way. It is at the tip of my tongue but I still can't come up with the title. "08. Joe Torres – Get out of my way (Ric de Silva)album Latin con soul (1967) Blue Note / Pacific Jazz or Original soundtrack Pinero (2002) Universal Music Latino Our drummer really liked this one and sang it all the time. The lyrics aren’t really suited for a woman to sing, so it didn’t make the repertoire list. [l)Boing! Boing! Boing! I really didn't expect anyone to get this. I see your drummer liked it, so that's how. But I never knew it was in a film. Not a woman's song, definitely.[/l)" Ah, I actually knew it already when he sang it since the radio station I listen to played it quite often. It was sort of a hit there, in 2006 I think. I think the drummer, especially liked to sing the part "ugly woman", which was quite funny. "09. reminds me of the movies I used to watch on television when I was a girl which was actually my first rendez vous with jazz without knowing it at the time. I carry a warm heart for this. Gee, ain’t I good to you (Andy Razaf & Don Redman) – McKinney’s Cotton Pickers, vocal Donald Redman (1929) Victor label 78 rpm record ? (probably better known as the title: Gee baby, ain’t I good to you) I love Ella's version on this song btw. [l)Boing! Boing! Boing! Another one, though Spooontaneous was first with it.[/l)" Ah, yes of course he has beaten me to it. Again, I didn't get to listen until yesterday, so I was surprised to recognize any of the tunes and expected to be too late to guess anyway. Thanks again MG. page
  19. So on the road/ in the nick of time, my thoughts on your BFT which I loved, your foresight was correct indeed. Sorry that I haven't been able to dig into all of it. Here are my thoughts/impressions: BFT 122 01. nice, oriental, nice flute parts 02. I love bossas, one of my favourite styles in music to sing and listen to. 04. funky, a bit R & B influence, nice beginning. I think I know this song too, at least I recognize the melody. 05. lovely tune, a bit bossa-like too, but not completely. Never heard it and am curious about the artist. 06. funky song, nice groove. 07. Great song, I love the latin rhythm and this sort of suspense that is in the song. The change to swing and then back again. Yes, one of my favourite tracks on your BFT. 08. Joe Torres – Get out of my way (Ric de Silva)album Latin con soul (1967) Blue Note / Pacific Jazz or Original soundtrack Pinero (2002) Universal Music Latino Our drummer really liked this one and sang it all the time. I can’t come up with the title right now, but know the song, not this version. sax/guitar duet. I like it. Pretty tight accompaniment. 11. A bit bluesy start, melody sounds familiar. 12. have no clue. 20 bar blues. Nice, slow blues is always the best. 13. no clue. Theme doesn’t sound familiar. Fun song. I like the guitarist. 14. Shadows of Paris (Henri Mancini & Robert Wells) – Shirley Scott trio – Great Scott!! orchestra conducted by Oliver Nelson. (1964) Impulse Shirley Scott – organ & vocals and on For members only (1963) lovely! I had never heard it before. 15. No clue. A bit R & B influence. Tune sounds familiar. 16. ah, great! 12 bar blues. nice. no clue who the artist is. 17. blues as a jazzwaltz, really nice. No clue. Thanks again. Your BFT will stay on my playlist, that I'm sure of. Kind regards, page
  20. I'm afraid I won't be able to participate this time. I'm really sorry since I really like the game and finding out about new music but I feel I won't be able to look into your game in the way it deserves at the moment and that just doesn't feel right. Good luck and have fun, Dan, and of course all of you who are playing too! Kind regards, page
  21. Dank je wel. (that's Dutch)
  22. Hi Stefan, I’m sorry for my late entree, but due to personal circumstances I haven’t been able to listen and work on your BFT at all. So I only found out today that your latest link provided a totally new disc with tracks. I’ve just listened, so these are my findings and feelings about it. 120-3 01. fun track – pieces at beginning remind of Manha de carnaval – Strange mathemathics - Sun Ra Arkestra? 02. no idea, I like the merry flute. 03. not my thing, no idea about the artist. 04. 6/8 ms., changes later to slower and different ms. pieces swing 4/4, jazz waltz and slower pieces change 8ths and 4ths later. Overall nice track. 05. cello with double bass? Duet in beautiful melancholy. Stunning! 06. exciting first half, a bit tango-latin-ish , later changes to something robot-machine-like which I don’t like that much; another change, rather chaotic feeling overrules me during the song. 07. funky song, no idea about the artist. 08. jazz waltz, nice theme. 09. reminds me of the series “The Saint” somehow. I would like to write lyrics to the theme, since it seems something I would sing. Fun track. 10. chaotic at the first half at some point, gets quieter. Totally different part follows, at the end the horns join in again. Not my thing I’m afraid. 11. funky song, nice groove. 12. nice theme, solo gets a bit too crowdy for me at some point. My favourite track is no. 05 which took my breath away and I really like no.09. as well. Thank you for sharing this new music! Please excuse me for not being able to really participate at your game. Kind regards, page
  23. I'm sorry this happened to you, Stefan. It must feel like your efforts are waisted. I didn't notice right away since you've used FLAC files and I can only play that in Jet audio and I do not use it that much. After I've noticed I tried to throw away the properties, but they show up again when you'll click a file to play. I didn't see all the titles of the first, about 5 I think and the second album I didn't see at all and I'll wait to play them, 'till someone has a solution to this. Maybe someone could help and clean the files to help, Stefan? I didn't know any of the titles I saw, so I have forgotten already. I really liked the songs I played so far and did take notes, so what ever happens I'll comment later this month on my experience with your BFT. kind regards, page
  24. Happy Birthday!
