Amsterdam! Ed van der Elsken: Photographer Ed van der Elsken at the "Stadsarchief" in Amsterdam. You can go see his work until 14-09. Beautiful sights of the life in Amsterdam from 1947 - 1970. Fun to see and recognzie places where the pictures were taken and how much things have changed since then. This pic was taken at the Jodenbreestraat in 1965, a place where you could get sandwiches. The portraits of ordinary people I found stunning. Ed died in 1990. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ed_van_der_Elsken

That's great news, Lon!

Scot Dolan said: "But as we mature we take the time to "stop and smell the roses" " I like the way you describe that, and man, what a lovely fragrance those roses have got! I listened to Mozart when I was a teen (among other composers like Chopin f.e.), maybe before that even. Something to do with the household I grew up in and the fact that I played the piano. My teacher allowed classical music only for repertoire (Dvorák, Beethoven, Mozart a.o.), for the sole reason of me being a girl. I went crazy about the one boogie woogie I was allowed to and learned 3 parts (it was a piece for 4 pupils) by heart and played them at once, lol. A shame he never mentioned jazz to me at the time.

"Jikes" How soon does that happen after one first got in touch with the music? I'm not much into labeling myself, so I do not mind her singing country or jazz or both. I like country myself and sometimes I sing and play some on my guitar. According to what she did in the past I really liked her cooperation with the Charlie Hunter Quartet and covered their "Day is done" (orginally a Nick Drake song) with my band. I do not really look at her as a jazz singer but when do you verify exactly as one? And who, besides yourself, gets to decide which influence you want to bring into your music?

I have been using Jet audio which has a basic version that is free ware and comes without any trouble. I still have an old version which can't convert to mp3 but the nowadays version probably can. It is from Cowon. http://www.cowonamerica.com/ I've checked for you but the basic version still can't convert to mp3, sorry, Maybe one of the other versions, but I can't check those. Someone once recommend Audacity to me for mp3 but I found out that does bring trouble so I wouldn't choose that one. Good luck!

I didn't know that. I just noticed that these came from their own and found it remarkable they would point out their number 11 as winner. Congrats, Mike!

Yes, I find it difficult to find things since they've changed the software. You can't really narrow your search enough now. I use it less often because of that. I do have an ad blocker so that's not the problem for me.

hm, just a word of friendly advice. If it are tights you want, make sure the size is big enough or you will have to pull them up every now and then to get them in the right place again. Not something you want to do while you are on stage ...

Yes, I overall enjoyed the cup too. Except for some nasty moments in some games in which players were kicked and hit for the purpose of hurting them when they were about to break through or some other important action. In the last game I was stunned the goalkeeper of Germany got away with his attack on that player from Argentina f.e. Clearly unacceptable in my view, as were the attacks on Schweinsteiger. Götze's goal was beautiful indeed. My girlfriend is in Berlin at the moment and tells me it is a madhouse up there. The people are all very happy. Congratulations to Germany! As for Messi.... this is the top of players according to Fifa's own Castrol-index* which noted down all the performances of every player at the cup statisticly. Messi isn't even in the top 10. http://www.fifa.com/worldcup/statistics/castrol-index/analysis.html * "Castrol, Official Sponsor of the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™, are experts in using pioneering technology and data analysis to understand the performance of their oils and have used similar expertise to create the Castrol Index, the definitive system for rating player performance." Until the next tournament, it was a pleasure reading all of your comments, saluting thee page

JIPPIE! Who says bronz isn't a beautiful colour. Kudos to the supporters of Brazil for staying on cheering for the Dutch team. Could someone explain why that referee got a medal again?
-
Man, I don't know whether I will be able to watch if the entire game is going to be like this. I fear it will get nasty especailly if the referee will continue to decide like this.
-
I do get stressed too, the game with Mexico I couldn't really watch the whole time. I usually go do something else when I feel restless and leave the tv on while watching with one eye. I repaired some clothes that night, lol. This last game with Argentina I was remarkably calm though, don't know why that is. I'm looking forward to tonights game, wearing orange all day while neigbours took down their flags and stuff. Support until the end as far as I'm concerned. Have fun you guys! page

Shit happens but life goes on. It seemed like chess indeed. I think Van Gaal expected to not need to shoot penalties and we can't be blam this on Cilessen solely. He saved some pretty good ones during the game and the ones before that. He is young and lacks experience in the area of penalties. The team should have scored during the game but they decided that it was more important to keep the opponent team from scoring and I guess Argentina did the same. Ron Vlaar was fabulous btw. Let's be honest, considering no one in our country expected them to make it through the first round, they did very well. There are a lot of players still at the beginning of their career, there are going to be some among those who will grow to be great players. I'm looking forward to saturday's game since Brazil will be a great opponent. I hope the players will realize that they should still enjoy this last game and give it their best shot. I still wear my orange shirt with pride today. As for the finals I think Germany will get the cup.

During the 2012 Olympic in London the Dutch fan centre was a few hundred metres from my front door. It felt like the whole area had turned orange for the duration. Great crowds, mad dress sense and everyone very friendly even after seemingly heavy consumption of the sponsor's beer. I always think the sawthes of orange at major sporting tournaments is a great testament to the Dutch. Long may it continue. Hey, we even borrowed "an Orange" for our royal family a while back - maybe that's why we appreciate the display Yeah. A friend of mine told me they even brought orange bikes. As for soccer I am only into the National team since in the club competition there is a totally different atmosphere. Besides there have been pretty nasty incidents between fans of clubs in the past. Not all of the fans of course, but a group among them. Living in the area of A'dam I have never been an Ajax fan. Their fans (again, not all but a group among them) have been acting terribly. Some months ago they damaged a stadion of their opponent Feyenoord while not even playing against them but in a cup game against PEC Zwolle, so both teams were guests in the stadion. Before that there was an incident with Scottish fans who got arrested by the police while the real trouble makers were the Ajax fans in my view. Those things have spoiled it for me and eventhough I like certain players like the coach Frank de Boer. There are other clubs here who have such groups among ther fans, so it is not particularly solely an Ajax thing. It has spoiled it for me though to watch the club competition, the hooligan thing and also the arrogance of some players. I just want to watch an exciting game with nice playing. I hope tonight will be that. I feel sorry for Brazil eventhough it feels like Germany was the better team who deserved to win. We'll see what team will get to the finals next. No surprise which team I will be supporting in which colour.
