  1. It very well may have been but a fun show none the less! Got to see the greats while they are still around.....Lou is still considered a "great" isn't he???? Where's that dude that hates Rollins, maybe he hates Lou also B-) . My photographs are back from my lab and look pretty nice. I'll post some on Wednesday. Mark
  2. Sal, I'm sad for you..... . Dan, Yes, he mentioned much of the above but I've seen him several times and he seems to through in a few new nuggets from time to time. He also mentioned the music was not meant to be played by Kenny G or Najee, which got a chuckle. I generally get a chance to see him once a year so it doesn't bug me too much. I would like to hear a few other tunes though. Mark
  3. I went to see Lou Donaldson w/Lonnie Smith on the B-3 yesterday, what a fun show! They played a few tunes by Bird, as well as one by Denzel Best, Somewhere Over the Rainbow, Gravy Train and Alligator Bogaloo. He also did his standard blues vocal where he took a couple light hearted jabs at the President. Lou's wife, sister and other relatives were in the audience also, as his sister lives in Chicago. At Lou's advanced age, he still plays well and is quite the funny guy. I spoke to the Doctor for about 20 minutes before the show as Mel Rhyne told me to say "hi" to him. He's an interesting guy to say the least and kicks ass on the B-3. Lou said he's the best organ player in the country but went on to say he's not sure if he's the best in the city ! I made some nice photographs of the show and will put a few on line later this week. I know Sal was going to the Saturday night show as well, did he play the same tunes? Mark
  4. Listening to it as I type....very good! B-)
  5. Thanks David, see you Monday!
  6. Ghost, I'll make sure to tune it. Did you by chance interview either Baker or Young? I talked to David Young this summer and told him I really enjoy his playing on these lps. He just smiled and said "Man, that was a long time ago". He's a man of few words but he sure can play!!! Mark
  7. I thought they were currently available....are they not? Mark
  8. Have a good one!
  9. 35-40 plus all the Select series. I also have just bought the ones I knew I would dig and have bought nothing just because it says Mosaic on it. That said, if I had known about Mosaic before I first heard of them, I would have easily doubled my purchases!!! Mark
  10. I've been off for the past 8 days and won't return to work until Monday. I've been completing some long over due projects such as painting two bedrooms, my music room and a bathroom, all the while listening to jazz. I have been playing the many Beehive sessions that Jim Neumann made in the 70's/80's, wonderful stuff!!! I also picked up the new RVGs and have been giving them a listen. I am lucky enough to be able to listen to music during the hours I'm at work but it's not the same with the phone ringing off the hook and the frequent visits from pesky co-workers! Mark
  11. My HP scanner will scan 35mm slides but I haven't used it for that. I have a friend that scans some of mine for me as he has a digital ICE scanner which automatically removes dust and scratches; actually makes them look like new. I have a ton of old slides and transparencies from the 70's/80's that we have "restored" this way. Most professional labs, including many one-hour labs have this equipment and could scan them to disc for you, but not sure of the cost. I hope this helps! Mark
  12. Exactly my thoughts, Brad. I can't believe Mobley set is still available. Why would Scott lie about it? I mean to say I'm very surprised. Of course he is not lying. OK, I misunderstood your post. I can't believe those guys called you a liar!!!
  13. Thanks Sal, I'm glad you got to see him. Anyone that has the chance to see McPHerson should not miss him, he is unbelievable live!!! Are you going to be at the showcase this coming Sunday for Lou Donaldson/Lonnie Smith? Mark
  14. and another one! I usually shoot in b&w but I did this with a digital camera as I want to post something tonight. Mark
  15. Here's a photograph I made at the Charles McPherson show a few hours ago at the Jazz Showcase in Chicago. Man, that guy can play!!! It's Charlie Parker month at the Showcase with McPherson, Lou Donaldson, Roy Haynes, Cedar Walton and others!!! Mark
  16. A true master if there ever was one !
  17. Happy Birthday to you!!!
  18. Happy Belated Birthday Allan!
  19. I've decided to try to unload them in a neighborhood garage sale tomorrow. I have about 400 lps, mostly rock albums from the 70's and 80's. Most are in great shape. Will I get $2.00-$3.00 each for these, is this too much to expect? Should I put one price for all? This sale is tomorrow 8/6 and Saturday 8/7 so any thoughts tonight would be greatly appreciated!!! Mark
  20. Randy Johnston on guitar, Fukushi Tainaka on drums!
  21. Happy Birthday to you!!!!
  22. Down for a few hours...horrible, horrible. How many dead? Did Alexander Haig assume command? Isn't he dead?
  23. I'm not a big fan of the dentist although I go three times a year for check up/cleanings. There are many other things we all probably endure during the year that are worse than dental checkups!
  24. Joe told me he was updating the website this week, maybe he just hasn't got it done yet. I'll probably go over for the Sunday matinee show while your in town. Let me know if you can make that one! Mark
  25. Ernestine Anderson! I edited my original post to include shows through the end of October! Mark
