  1. Thanks for posting Mark, lovely stuff! Thanks John, I have many other images from the show if anyone is interested! Mark
  2. Randy, I think you meant to say "Lou Donaldson & Lonnie Smith", not Donald Byrd.
  3. I will be at the Showcase this weekend to see Junior Mance and probably each of the other shows; August is always Charlie Parker Month at the Showcase, as they ususally have performers that had played with or are heavily influenced by Bird!!! ~July 27-August 1~Junior Mance Trio ~August 3-August 8~ Charles McPherson ~August 10-August 15~Lou Donaldson/Lonnie SMith ~August 17-August 22~ Roy Haynes Quartet ~August 24-August 29~ Donald Harrison Quintet ~August 31-Spetember 5~ Ira Sullivan ~September 7-12~Toshiko Akiyoshi Trio ~September 14-19~Ernestine Anderson ~September 21-26~David Sanchez Quartet ~September 28-October 3~ McCoy Tyner Trio ~October 5-10~ Danilo Perez Trio ~October 12-17~ Dave Holland Quartet ~October 19-24~Pharoah Sanders Quartet ~October 26-31~Rufus Reid Quintet Mark

  6. It will hold up well if it stays in the glass case !
  7. ...and the answer would be YES !
  8. Thanks for all the replies. I'll dig them out sometime this week to jog my memory of what the hell I was thinking when I bought them. I'll put a list together and go from there! Thanks again, Mark
  9. PM on the Lou Donaldson!
  10. ...doesn't look at all like Wardell!
  11. I'll be scootin' into Chicago this weekend to see Junior Mance and will also swing by DG to pick up a few items, can hardly wait!!!! Those bastards .
  12. I saw Bobby earlier in the year and had never seen him before. I wasn't sure what to expect but that show kicked ass! I haven't heard the new recording but he's a blast to see live!
  13. Jazzkrow, I think this was a one time thing. Baker's Keyboard Lounge in Detroit has billed themselves at the oldest jazz club in the world and was celebrating their 70th anniversary with 4 days of shows, including Sheila Jordan, Bryd, Fuller, McPherson, Louis Hayes and many other notable musicians from the Detroit jazz scene. I think Bryd (Dr. Byrd) may be teaching around the east coast but I forget where; I believe he still plays some gigs but may not actually tour. As far as his sound.....the first night he didn't sound well at all but the sound system on this night didn't help.....very loud/crackly....I thought my ears may bleed at any time. His tenor player that night was the original guy in the Blackbyrds. The second night was much better as they got the sound worked out; Charles McPherson stepped in that night with Louis Hayes on drums. I had heard his playing had deterioated a lot so I didn't expect him to sound like his BN days. Actually I thought his second night was pretty enjoyable. Curtis Fuller stopped in the club late that evening but was not scheduled to play until the next night. Byrd is a pretty big guy and moves about pretty slow, not really sure how old he is now??? Ather than that, he appeared to be ok. He was very upbeat and friendly (sat next to me much of the time he wasn't on stage, as the only seat in the place that wasn't full was the one at my two top table). This was the first time I had seen both Byrd and Fuller so it was a blast for me as I sat right at the front edge of the stage for three nights with cameras in hand. It was also great seeing all these guys together as many of them hadn't played together for many, many years. Mark
  14. Thank guys, the show was a lot of fun. It was my first time at Baker's which is very tiny but pretty cool. The musicians we having a blast and the place was packed to the rafters all three nights. The owner (John Colbert) was very friendly and parked me right in front of the stage each night to photograph; couldn't have had a better time!
  15. Thanks guys, I've had these boxed up in a closet for the past several years. I'll pull them out and compile a list. Thanks again, Mark
  16. I think it's steel. It is a pretty weird perspective though.
  17. I want to unload about 300 old rock lps that I've had since I was a kid (or young adult). I'm by no means an expert at grading LPs and don't want to spend a huge amount of time on this project. Most of them are from the 60s/70s/80s and are in excellent condition, many of them played once or twice. What is the best way to get a fair price for them or is there? Thanks for all replies!
  18. I'm also listening, good show and a mention of Organissimo to boot (twice)! Nice job Ghost! Mark
  19. ....and McPherson soloing.....that's all for now! Thanks for looking!!!
  20. and one of Byrd and McPherson performing!
  21. ...and another. I asked to photograph them together, I really didn't ask Curtis to strangle Byrd !
  22. Here is a photograph I made at the 70th Anniversary of Baker's Keyboard Lounge in Detroit. I asked Donald Byrd, Curtis Fuller and Charles McPherson to strike a pose for me, they were in good spirits!
  23. ...and a statue in his honor!!!
  24. I'm sure Rooster has seen this but I thought I'd share this photograph I made of the saxophone that Charlie Parker played during the famous Massey Hall show. This is on display at the Jazz Museum in Kansas City.
  25. and if you like racing, the world famous Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
