    Roy DeCarava

"The Sound I Saw" can be picked up very reasonably and should be on everyone's shelf if you love jazz or just great photography. I bought several copies a few years ago and gave them to a few friends. I picked up "The Sweet Flypaper of Life" from a rare book dealer about 5 years ago. A very short ready but nice. Very sad to hear of Roy's passing...very sad! Mark~
  3. ...don't care that he had sex and don't care for letterman either. feel some sadness for hiw wife and kid. m
  4. ...I prefer to watch neither....ever!
  5. Oh fer crissakes...is everything a competition with you, Dan? So, the only way to "control your fate" is when you are in the lead. Nice. Tell that to the 1964 Phillies or the 1969 Cubs or the 1978 Red Sox or the 1995 Angels or my personal favorite: The 1951 Dodgers. And I quote: The Dodgers rank No. 1 on this list [of MLB collapses] because no other team can combine such a profound collapse in a pennant race with a profound collapse in a deciding game. That game, of course, was made famous by Bobby Thomson's "Shot Heard Round the World", which was preceded by the Dodgers holding a 4-1 lead to start the bottom of the ninth inning. Under those circumstances the Giants could only be expected to win 1.8 percent of the time. To have come back from a 50-to-1 shot after coming back from a 400-1 shot -- and the Giants had to put the pedal to the floor to do it, going 37-7 to close out the regular season and force the playoff -- was very special. source: Dan, you're wrong. THE GIANTS WIN THE PENNANT!!! THE GIANTS WIN THE PENNANT!!! THE GIANTS WIN THE PENNANT!!! THE GIANTS WIN THE PENNANT!!! THE GIANTS WIN THE PENNANT!!! And they're going CRAZY!!!!! Yeah...that stuff never happens huh, Dan. ....zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
  6. I pre-ordered the book several weeks ago on Amazon..... m~
  7. ...and he could get that with a new recording. The guy still sounds great but Tom is right.....I've seen him a dozen times and the set list doesn't change. That said, I still love the guy. m
  8. And who might these nefarious rednecks be? I can think of one person who might fit that description, but that's about it. So one person has taken over the entire board? That one person is confined mainly to the political forum, so if it bothers you that much, don't go in there. And if you have no self-control, then I can make it so you cannot see the political forum at all. ...dude, I'm right here...wait until I log off!
  9. I'm inclined to agree w/ you but just remember the Mets were up by 7 games w/ 17 to play in 2007 and the Phillies won the division. Still a lot of baseball to play. Plus Zambrano is coming back, and I just think the Cardinals are a catchable team for some reason. Milton Bradley has been an unmitigated disaster though... ....I don't think the cubs have a chance of catching the cards. I think the cards would need to play .500 ball the rest of the way for this to happen...and I don't think it will happen with the line-up at this time.
  10. I don't always agree with Dan but your post is just not a bit right!....and btw, this is not the political thread...don't ruin the few actual music threads with your politics. m
  11. ....too many things to see...several of them overlapping. Got to catch a little of this...little of that! See you there Dan!
  12. I was in attendance at the bft...very interesting stuff and I'm sure a lot of it didn't make it to print. m
  13. I'll look for the pissin' and moanin' guy! Hope you can make it! m
  14. It's not looking too good for the Cubs right now. On another note: How long has the "walk-off bounce" been in effect? It seems that every walk-off homer gets celebrated with the bounce now, it can't be more than two years for that. ...always happy to see another Cubs loss...but there is a ways to go. Hopefully they will lose some more:-) m~
  15. ...ya think????
  16. Any board members going to the chicago jazz fest this year? I'm sure Sal, Rob, Ejp626, Danimal, Larry K and possibly Chuck will be there....how about the rest of you? Kind of a "home grown" line up this year which is a good thing. Lots of after-sets at the Velvet, Green Mill, Showcase, Hungry Brain and I'm sure other places. Tribute to Benny Goodman at Millennium Park the night before the fest kicks off...featuring Jon Faddis and Buddy DeFranco. pm me if you're going! m
