...it's coming to a new music museum/performance art center about 6 blocks from my house; look forward to getting a peek at it. I ride my bike by this place every other day. btw, 14000 is a lots of lps but many folks have far more...not that it's a pissing contest. I would doubt this is the largest private collection in NYC...who knows? m

I happen to live in Westchester County, but wouldn't be caught dead reading that rag! The sports reporting has won more AP awards in the last three years than any other paper in NY. That may be so, but the Journal News is still a rag. Anyway, at least we know there will be a Michael Jackson week on Idol next year!!! Btw, MJ shared a birthday with Charlie Parker, Dinah Washington, Rebecca DeMornay and ..........ME!!! How does that make you all feel? ...indifference .

Carlos Diaz, on the other hand, hasn't a clue in his celebrity-obsessed head. No one here has made more of this than it is, other than one tragic misuse of the word "tragic". It seems to me that you're the only one getting overly dramatic with your moral majority stance. Btw, I'm a New Yorker and a baseball fan. Who the hell is Peter Abraham? ...that's because you're a Jetman....not a Yankman. He's a Journal News beat writer for the yanks....has a blog as well (I believe).

Carlos Diaz, on the other hand, hasn't a clue in his celebrity-obsessed head. I can hardly stand to turn on the news....these guys are all over the place! The same talking heads that trashed the guy for years are now praising him...sad. m

I was photographing the recent installment of Vision Fest in NYC earlier this month and went to grap something to drink. Down in the basement of the venue, there was this old dude playing around on the piano....turns out if was Giuseppi Logan. I knew next to nothing about him and still don't really know much though I've been digging around the "net" for the past few days digging up some interesting stuff on the guy. I asked him if I could make a few photos of him and he was cool with it. I sat there for about 10 minutes talking with him, asking him questions and so on. He told me he had been incarsorated for many years and was trying to get some gigs. He no longer has any teeth which I suspect would make it pretty tough to play his horn. A few days later, Henry Grimes was doing a solo bass/vioilin/poetry reading and invited Giuseppi to play his horn. He slowly put it together when Henry introduced him, played for one tune and than sat back down. Despite no teeth, I thought his playing we pretty good for the few minutes he played. I guess folks are trying to help him out; not sure where he is living...I saw something on line about a shelter in Brooklyn but not sure if that was recent. Here is one of the shots of him playing piano....once I've gotten a little further in the editing process, I'll post a shot of him on alto. Mark~

Charlie Haden's Yoshi's gigs get trashed...

...met Charlie back stage in Chicago a few years ago....very friendly and talkative. Stuck around to sign things for people afterwards. Don't know him beyond that. -
Charlie Haden's Yoshi's gigs get trashed...

..saw him in Portland earlier this year and he was taking the occasional hit of oxygen at the back of the stage. Still a joy to see and he played well....long live Bobby!!! Saw Cables this past Wednesday night in nyc as part of the Hubbard Tribute "Hubtones" and he played beautifully. m m~ -
I did, it was pretty good through not great (to me) and very short...only about 35-40 minutes. Murray seemed to be lacking energy throughout the set (not sure of his age as I type this). Several patrons were pissed and started yelling out loud about it. Sunny came out to the mic and talked about being happy about getting the gig, shopping at flea markets and living in France and reminded us if we didn't like America, we could live there too....kinda strange. Odean Pope, who played with him was good. m

As I wrote, "... the Vision Festival does indeed have a lot of musicians who are or may be younger than 3O, including (I'm not exactly sure of all their exact ages, so don't hold me to this list): Shayna Dulberger, Atticus Cole, Althea SullyCole, two or three members of the Sun Ra Arkestra, Darius Jones, Darius Savage, Isaiah Spencer, Adam Lane, Tyshawn Sorey, Forbes Graham, Eri Yamamoto, and [several student bands] playing on Sunday afternoon. This is not to mention spoken-word people, people who dance, people who made things on display, and so forth, with whom I'm not familiar enough to say anything about their ages. Maybe someone else on this list can chip in about them." So... thanks for chipping in! As to earlier inquiries about the weather here in New York City, as of tonight it's cool and damp. You can get a week's forecast by going to http://weather.msn.com, entering the zip code 10002, and clicking "go." I'm pretty sure that whatever results you get will be wrong, though. This society may have produced some great scientific achievements, but accurate weather forecasting still seems beyond us. ...just got back from the festival....great time. It was damp much of the time I was there but not the end of the world. Got to spend some time with Margaret, Henry Grimes, Kidd Jordan, Fred Anderson, Douglas Ewart and others.....will try to post a few photos in the near future. m
