  1. ...I wouldn't want to be one of his doctors.
  2. ...thanks Bill. The interview with the preacher-man gives me a stomach ache. m
  3. I was photographing the recent installment of Vision Fest in NYC earlier this month and went to grap something to drink. Down in the basement of the venue, there was this old dude playing around on the piano....turns out if was Giuseppi Logan. I knew next to nothing about him and still don't really know much though I've been digging around the "net" for the past few days digging up some interesting stuff on the guy. I asked him if I could make a few photos of him and he was cool with it. I sat there for about 10 minutes talking with him, asking him questions and so on. He told me he had been incarsorated for many years and was trying to get some gigs. He no longer has any teeth which I suspect would make it pretty tough to play his horn. A few days later, Henry Grimes was doing a solo bass/vioilin/poetry reading and invited Giuseppi to play his horn. He slowly put it together when Henry introduced him, played for one tune and than sat back down. Despite no teeth, I thought his playing we pretty good for the few minutes he played. I guess folks are trying to help him out; not sure where he is living...I saw something on line about a shelter in Brooklyn but not sure if that was recent. Here is one of the shots of him playing piano....once I've gotten a little further in the editing process, I'll post a shot of him on alto. Mark~
  4. ...when I cut/paste the link; it takes me right back here?
  5. ...Swiping someone else's stuff is wrong....but this is just plain silly .
  6. ...thinking the same thing. About the only place I can go into with a 50% off coupon and walk out with nothing....sad!
  7. ...met Charlie back stage in Chicago a few years ago....very friendly and talkative. Stuck around to sign things for people afterwards. Don't know him beyond that.
  8. ..saw him in Portland earlier this year and he was taking the occasional hit of oxygen at the back of the stage. Still a joy to see and he played well....long live Bobby!!! Saw Cables this past Wednesday night in nyc as part of the Hubbard Tribute "Hubtones" and he played beautifully. m m~
  9. I did, it was pretty good through not great (to me) and very short...only about 35-40 minutes. Murray seemed to be lacking energy throughout the set (not sure of his age as I type this). Several patrons were pissed and started yelling out loud about it. Sunny came out to the mic and talked about being happy about getting the gig, shopping at flea markets and living in France and reminded us if we didn't like America, we could live there too....kinda strange. Odean Pope, who played with him was good. m
  10. As I wrote, "... the Vision Festival does indeed have a lot of musicians who are or may be younger than 3O, including (I'm not exactly sure of all their exact ages, so don't hold me to this list): Shayna Dulberger, Atticus Cole, Althea SullyCole, two or three members of the Sun Ra Arkestra, Darius Jones, Darius Savage, Isaiah Spencer, Adam Lane, Tyshawn Sorey, Forbes Graham, Eri Yamamoto, and [several student bands] playing on Sunday afternoon. This is not to mention spoken-word people, people who dance, people who made things on display, and so forth, with whom I'm not familiar enough to say anything about their ages. Maybe someone else on this list can chip in about them." So... thanks for chipping in! As to earlier inquiries about the weather here in New York City, as of tonight it's cool and damp. You can get a week's forecast by going to http://weather.msn.com, entering the zip code 10002, and clicking "go." I'm pretty sure that whatever results you get will be wrong, though. This society may have produced some great scientific achievements, but accurate weather forecasting still seems beyond us. ...just got back from the festival....great time. It was damp much of the time I was there but not the end of the world. Got to spend some time with Margaret, Henry Grimes, Kidd Jordan, Fred Anderson, Douglas Ewart and others.....will try to post a few photos in the near future. m
  11. I caught the first show on Thursday with a couple friends. This particular night included Weiss, Burno, Spaulding, Cables, Handy, White and Peyton. Great show, lots of fun....lot's of Freddie tunes! m
  12. ...even his hair is not "his" hair.
  13. I have two My Book...a 500 g and a 1T and have not experienced issues to date. I know nothing about repairing them. m
  14. I'll be there....just stay out of my way.
  15. ...will be there Wednesday-Saturday...
  16. ...thanks for posting; looking forward to it!
  17. I think if people were offended and others made "unseemly" posts, these should be displayed as an example. How will anyone learn anything - transgressors or transgressed. I feel it was a disservice to all by deleting the thread. Just lock the friggin' thread. As an example I cite the nasty Cliff Englewood thread now current. When I'm gone some folks will say negative things about me (that's the way it goes) and hope my children take these statements in stride as opinions about a singular figure for whom they have private feelings. ...what do you mean "when I'm gone"???? m~
  18. Hi there Chuck.... Hope you have a Great Day!!!
