  1. ...done, much appreciated! m~

  3. Hi all, I have a black and white drawing (jpeg) and need to have part of the drawing, actually some words at the bottom of the drawing removed. Is this something that is easy to do....is there anyone that can do this for me? Thanks, Mark
  4. ...got 2 stars in Downbeat for what that's worth....one writer says "Preciousness and superficiality are a bad combo and this trio has them both in abundance"....another says "Hiromi's much touted virtuosity is readily apparent-though in a world of virtuosos, not unique"... m~
  5. Terence Blanchard and his band, pianist Aaron Parks, saxophonist Brice Winston, Lionel Loueke on guitar, Derrick Hodge on Bass and Kendrick Scott on drums performed for two sold out, jam packed shows at the Jazz Kitchen in Indy. People were lined up around the building to get in. Terence and band played mostly their originals; each store lasted 90 minutes or more. m~ ps, it's 2:35 a.m. and I just got home, gotta get to bed!!!

  8. Randy Brecker played in Indy last night with a local (very good) rhythm section. Chatted with Randy before the show, nice guy and good player. Here are a few images from the show, was told his brother is responding to some new treatment, no more info than that. m~
  9. ....you're always welcome to join us!!!!! m~
  10. Saw him a few years ago and made some nice photographs....very entertaining and very sad to hear of this!
  11. Thanks guys, I appreciate the info. Hopefully some of our other New Yorkers will chime in as well. I'll revive this as it gets a little closer. Mark
  12. Chuck, Joe's bash at the Chicago Symphony Center is Friday April 28th at 8:00. Band will include the players I mentioned. There is also pre-concert Q&A with Joe and some other Chicago jazz guys, but don't know who at this time. Tickets are currently on sale through the CSO website. Tickets for the pre-concert deal are free but you must call for tickets. There is also a birthday party at Joe's Bebop Cafe on Navy Pier (invitation only). I did get an invite but it's on the Monday I'll be in NYC; it kills me to miss it but I hope someone will make some nice photos. Because this show was part of the "Jazz at the Symphony" Series, many of the seats were already glommed up. I did manage to get a few tickets not too far from the stage. None of the seats are really that bad; I'm sure you have probably been there before. I have credentials to shoot the show but they make you shoot from the wings, which is not ideal but better than a "rap in the nuts with a hoe handle"!!! m~ Let me know if you'll make it, it would be great to get together before the show!
  13. Hi all, I will be making a trip to NYC during the first full week of May and am looking for any help I can get. I will probably hit many jazz clubs and will stay somewhere in Manhattan. Any dos/don't I should adhere to. As it get's closer, I'll look for recommendations on food, getting around, music stores, museums, galleries to see and will check the websites for shows while we are there. Interested in any thoughts any of you may have. If anyone NYorkers want to get together for a night or lunch one day, I would be into that as well. Preceding the trip, I have been invited to photograph Joe Segal's 80th Birthday bash as the Symphony Center in Chicago, which will include Ira Sullivan, Yusef Lateef, Jimmy Heath, Junior Mance, Von Freeman, Rufus Reid, Larry Gray and Tootie Heath.....will be an absolute blast. Jazz Krow, Sal and Jim Neumann will be there as well. Thanks! m~
  14. ...just got an email that the NFL officials have admitted to a mistake on the reversed interception call in the Colts game....better late than never.....I guess? m~
  15. Just heard a local news report that the Indy Colts Nick Harper was just stabbed in the knee.....by his wife a little while ago......required stitches and is probably out for tomorrows game . They live a few miles from me and there have been issues of domestic arguments in the past.....but damn!!!! m~
  16. ...you?
  17. Lazaro, It's in the Misc, non-political forum. Mark

....another thread to boost post counts!!! ...oops, there's one for me!
  20. ...very sad! I spent quite a bit of time with Phil at the Chicago Jazz Fest this past September as I have the past few years. I tried to find him at Monterey this past year but for some reason, we just didn't hook up. Lots of great stories as he has covered every Monterey Jazz Festival plus many others. He also told me a great story about writing the forward to Jim Marshall's new book on Jazz.....guess he showed up to Jim's house to discuss the book, Jim didn't recognize him at first and pulled the door open with his gun out .....I guess Jim's crazy that way!!!! I remember sitting at the base of the stage during the Chicago Jazz Fest a few years ago while it was raining and he asked me to shoot a picture of him writing with one hand and holding on to his umbrella with the other hand. He wanted to show his wife how hard he was working!!! I'll post that image if I can dig it out this evening. Anyway, quite a shock to hear of Phil's passing, we've lost one of the good guys! Mark
  21. ...although Fred was great as usual, I think they were a little disorganized as they attempted to pull together rhythm sections as the night wore on. Harrison Bankhead came in, Ernest Dawkins came in, Hamid Drake was suppose to come in but none of them played.....but, Fred/Jeff were outstanding and it was great seeing Sal again and meeting Greg for the first time!!! Sal has plenty of money, he's just being a martyr!!! m~
