  1. So I take it THIS Herbie is not fully loaded.
  2. Not my fault. Not my problem. Bud sucks. But don't you admire its tenacity?
  3. Happy Birthday!!! (Too bad there isn't yet a "birthday cake" emoticon.)
  4. "...but the man who can when he hasn't got a thing he's the KING-- -of the whole wide world."
  5. Good God, that's horrible!
  6. That's a great one!
  7. "Mr.Blue" is a great tune!! One of the few doo-wop ballads that I actually like.
  8. "Quarter To Three"---U.S. Bonds Not bad. I expected a lot worse for some reason. (The early sixties are not known as a golden age of pop or rock music.)
  9. Albert Ayler, free-jazz guy, came to prominence in the 60's.
  10. And here I thought this thread was gonna be about Elvis.
  11. You're the best!!!! Happy Birthday, man!!!!! :tup :tup
  12. Sounds like they finally sent Bill packing! Hey? Heh, heh...heh.........heh Heh. Sorry.
  13. Anybody who digs Jackie McLean should get Davis Cup----he's in fine form on it.
  14. That's terrible.
  15. Happened to catch an episode of Foyle's War last week---very good. Seems like a good series.
  16. "Tell me.... Tell me about JENNY!"
  17. I find the sound of them distracting and annoying in the extreme. ...Though I like the recurrent wind chimes in The Limey, but that's different.
  18. It's funny to read that Morgan is an almost forgotten figure, that much of his work has been "ignored," that he's become "invisible," etc. That's certainly not true around here.
  19. For a fraction of a second I thought you meant Frank Lloyd Wright.
  20. My first BN albums were Go! by Dexter Gordon and the aforementioned Cool Struttin' by Sonny Clark, if memory serves. Both vinyl, as I didn't yet have a CD player in 1985. (Not long after I found a cheap copy of Soul Station somewhere, but it wasn't until around 1990 that I really started to appreciate it.)
  21. Hi! Still waiting for post #2.
  22. I picture McCain marching around to John Philip Sousa LPs, then maybe some Jackie Gleason for those intimate times. I am officially grossed out. But I agree that Obama's liking for jazz is probably sincere as far as it goes, because if he wanted to appeal to a wide demographic with his musical tastes, mentioning ANY jazz, even Miles, would be about the worst thing he could do.
  23. I'd say the general culture is not so much hostile to jazz as indifferent.
  24. I used to read Spy back in the 80's; was quite a fan, in fact. It took a sharp dip in quality in about 1990 or '91 as I recall, and folded not too long thereafter. Bits of business were copied by all sorts of other magazines, though.
