That is sad news indeed. I watched the entire Larry Sanders series in just a few months back when Bravo was showing an episode-per-day. One of my favorite shows of all time. 56 Emmy nominations and they can't just put the complete series on DVD? Pathetic. I'd gladly take it with NO extras, none at all, just the damn episodes, that would be fine. Oh well, at least I've got Freaks & Geeks. You're making me more and more curious about Mr. Moto...I've always been a fan of Peter Lorre. Box #2 should include at least a dozen versions of the surf instrumental as an audio extra, just for the heck of it.

Bruce, you are right .. Konitz has put out a lot of albums, BUT, most of these have been in the last thirty years. For those of us who were Konitz fans dating back to 1953 (when, as a 13 year old, I received as a gift of a 10" Prestige album of his) it was a long wait between albums. A look at his available discography in the period up to the late 1960's shows a relatively small number of albums for a musician of his stature at the time. I distinctly remember buying both of these LP albums at Sam The Record Man's store on Yonge Street in Toronto at the time they were released. They were incredible additions to my then small, but treasured collection of Konitz albums. I have both now on Japanese CDs and they continue, as Larry pointed out, to bring me great pleasure. Happily, they are bringing me pleasure too, now. You're right of course. I've gotten the impression that I could actually collect all of Konitz's 50's/early 60's output with a little more trying.

I found a used copy of that years ago. It's still one of my favorite vinyls.

I always thought their name made for one of the best band-acronyms ever.

I also have this on vinyl and a couple CD versions. One of the crown jewels of recorded jazz. And yes, you will want all the alternates.

I have both and find that the album on the RCA that's not on the Mosaic is not to my taste. I find the strings quite unlistenable.

Finally got the Mosaic Single of this a week or so ago. God, I love this album!!! It's become my new favorite Woody Herman album. (Pretty generous playing time, too, at 79 minutes and change.)

I reviewed some rock albums for a college newspaper a long, long time ago.

How about your favorite "would be" anthem? That is, an anthemic song that never became even a small hit. My vote: "It Must Be Summer" by Fountains of Wayne, from the Utopia Parkway album.

This thread has made me realize: Most "anthem" songs really, really suck.

I agree about the Kenny Drew Undercurrent RVG---very nice session, a couple of notches better than I expected. (I also think the Bill Evans/Jim Hall Undercurrent is a hellava good album too, in it's very different way, and much better than the album cover might lead you to believe.)
