  1. Keep on showin' it!!! You're fighting the good fight.
  2. I do, but you'd have to come "you know where" for an explanation... It was $2.22 yesterday when we filled up, but I use my bike, and the wife doesn't have that far to drive to get to work. Those "Sunday afternoon drives" of my youth are nothing but a fond memory, but it doesn't hurt that much. Now if you want to talk about housing costs here in the SF Bay area... $2.28 where I fill up, and no, I DON'T want to talk about housing costs in the goddamn Bay Area, thank you. Who are you telling? My neighbor and I were talking about the fact that only in California can a house in the ghetto go for darn near half a million dollars. It doesn't make any sense. I filled up my tank yesterday and gas in Alameda was $2.29/gallon. I only needed 5+ gallons but still. When and if I buy another car, it will be a hybrid, but not that dinky Prius. The trouble is, they aren't making enough of 'em. I heard there's a 4 or 5 month waiting period to get a hybrid. If they started importing them in job lots of 100,000 they WOULD sell, in this state.
  3. Isn't that the one that's a lame partial remake of "Laura"? Lot of terrific musicians brought together for a crappy movie.
  4. Hey, that's a damn good point. If those two were on the Hackett, it would be an absolute must. Perhaps I should say that this particular set isn't a "gateway" box, so to speak. If you are already familiar with Hackett and dig his style, then by all means, this is a good set to get. As an introduction to him, though, you'd do better to look for Jazz Ultimate and/or Coast Concert.
  5. Most if it is good. Only one disc is what I would call bad, or at least, something I'll probably never listen to more than once or twice. The rest is good to great, but that's just my opinion.
  6. What else? Ellington. (I think I have more Ellington vinyl than anybody else.)
  7. Damn it, go open that Thad Jones set!!! Better yet, send it to me...I'll open it for ya!
  8. Total agreement!!! (BTW, Brownie, great list.) I would add that I think George Barnes did a hellava nice job on Force of Evil, the 1948 John Garfield classic directed by Abraham Polonsky. Any mention of John Alton must include a brief for T-Men, the classic B-crime thriller, directed by Anthony Mann. The film is practically a primer of how to paint with light and shadow.
  9. Shawn, have you ever read a book titled Movie Love in the 50's by James Harvey? It has an entire chapter devoted to Out of the Past, in which he goes through the film scene by scene. Harvey is one of the best "close readers" of movies that I've ever come across, and he does a hell of a job on Out of the Past. Worth checking out of your local library.
  10. The Larry Sanders Show rules! What did you think of Spirited Away?
  11. I do, but you'd have to come "you know where" for an explanation... It was $2.22 yesterday when we filled up, but I use my bike, and the wife doesn't have that far to drive to get to work. 12. They should re-release Day the Earth Stood Still in concert with "Gort size" M&Ms...large, metal colored, and they shoot out lasers! (Put me down for a box.)
  13. You're right on that. You don't have Fanta/Apple soda in San Francisco-I'm shocked,SHOCKED!!!!! Yeah...but we have every OTHER flavor of Fanta. Go figure!
  14. The new name could well end up sounding like an order: "Charter One Citizen"!
  15. A no-brainer, for me: The Morgan/Shorter, one of my favorite Mosaics of all time.
  16. I doubt it will be the last.
  17. Anyone seen the Band of Brothers DVD set? I'm now borrowing the whole set from a library and enjoying it quite a lot.
  18. NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
  19. Gee, you probably don't even have Fanta Apple/soda! (Hey, neither do I! )
  20. misc. non-political---26% Whaddaya know.
  21. Sounds, uhm....scenic.
  22. I'd go with the Paul Jacobs.
  23. Windy----again!
  24. The Bob Brookmeyer Select.
  25. My favorite: "Minimize all noise." I can actually get on board with that one. Sure, show that to any and all prospective girlfriends/potential mates; it'll do two things for you: 1) Allow you to stay a bachelor all your life, and 2) Very well get you killed. Good luck!
