  1. I didn't get the 70's artists either, but now I feel better about it.
  2. A mashie for the masher?
  3. The Bandwagon is one of the all-time great Hollywood musicals, no doubt about it, and Cyd Charisse is terrific in it. Me, I'm still catching more Wire.
  4. Yes. If you never listened to it before, give it a try. Also I recommend the debut album by Wire, Pink Flag.
  5. Starting in about July of this year I've really gotten into Yo La Tengo.
  6. The new Mosaic catalog just came in the mail yesterday, with Crosby on the cover. Nice!
  7. Today my kids have the day off of school for Thanksgiving and they're having a Babylon 5 festival.
  8. That's a really good one! I think you'll dig it.
  9. Really now, who cares about the wig?
  10. Flaherty is my favorite. Right now watching more Wire, season #4.
  11. The usual here. Turkey, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, pumpkin pie, etc.
  12. Is that near the fountain store?
  13. I also thought the whole chain had closed. So many others have...
  14. "Yes!" on both counts!
  15. At a flea market? Yardsale?
  16. Agree with Dana and Jim on Ringo. He was an excellent drummer as far as rock goes, and perfect for the Beatles' requirements. I used to call him the Dave Tough of rock.
  17. Well, I like both Fountains of Wayne and Sloan, though I suppose both could be considered kind of retro. But in a good way, I think. I've also gotten into Yo La Tengo in recent months. Excellent group, with a sort of friendly bohemian/indie vibe.
  18. Ya gotta love this group.
  19. She was the best. Also the writer/illustrator of "Mike Mulligan and His Steam Shovel," and "Katy and the Big Snow," both of which, like "The Little House," won the Caldecott Medal. My favorite is her 1962 "Life Story," subtitled "The Story of Life on Our Earth from its Beginning Up to Now," in which the saga of our planet is presented as a sort of play, with each amazing illustration depicted within a proscenium arch. It took her eight years, she claimed, to research this amazing book, which I am very happy to see is still in print. Yes, I used to read it regularly to my kids as a bedtime story. In fact, all her books were in heavy rotation in my house.
  20. I caught a little of a Holmes series on PBS once; might have been the one you're talking about, Nate. Watson was played as quite smart. Seemed well done.
  21. Yeah, Guy Ritchie sure seems like a terrible director, doesn't he? One of those who's all 'tude and no talent.
  22. I saw the trailer on the big screen the other night when we went to see The Men Who Stare At Goats. The trailer made the new Holmes flick look very tongue-in-cheek and campy. Unintentionally hilarious too, but not worth paying to see, for me. BTW, the movie, ...Goats, was pointless and lame. Oh well.
  23. Keep getting better!!
  24. I've been staying away from it.
