  1. Regular 3D is good enough for most purposes, but if you don't mind the extra monetary outlay, IMAX will give you a total-immersion experience that's quite nice. I'm kind of tempted to see it again in IMAX, actually, and I don't usually do that.
  2. My condolences. Sure sounds like she lived a long, full life.
  3. I of course heard of radio shows becoming TV shows, but had no idea it sometimes went the other way. Thinking his first name was "Wire"---that's priceless! Just the way a kid of a certain age would think.
  4. I became a fan a couple of years ago when I discovered several seasons in the library...and a friend told me about Herrmann composing the theme. At first it was a trip just seeing Richard Boone play a good guy, after having been a longtime fan of the film The Tall T, but I got used to that soon enough. The show was actually surprisingly progressive for it's time in some ways, too. I plan to watch some more of it on Netflix soon. Great show!
  5. They repeated that pilot on TV some years ago. I think it was on TVLand, when they were starting to show The Dick Van Dyke Show (this was a long time ago, come to think...) The pilot is really interesting, in that the basic idea is there, but it's all so different. BTW, for years and YEARS growing up, whenever I heard of a "Van Dyke" beard, or the painter, I thought of the show.
  6. I got it two years ago and really dug it. Sometimes I even play it outside the holidays.
  7. Just watched the last episode of The Wire. I'd have to say that the fifth and final season was quite good, overall, but not as good as the others due mainly to the length. Only 10 episodes instead of the usual 13. It felt rushed and left me feeling a little short-changed, although the last episode was particularly good. Nice that it was directed by my hero, Clark Johnson...I believe he also directed the first episode of the series, if my memory is not deceiving me. Nice symmetry in that.
  8. Same here. I've long liked this album a lot more than those other two "drum-oriented" ones. Yes, it's depressing. 2009 is the first year that there has been no Connoisseur batch since the start of that series in 1994, and it's not like there have been any other reissues either. What a way to celebrate the 70th anniversary! Or not. I know, it's a little depressing to be sure.
  9. Whatta a maroon.
  10. That guy who drummed for The Zombies...Hugh Grundy...I like his work.
  11. So would I! Belated birthday wishes to you Alexander, and many, many more!
  12. Now that's Prog-rock that I can get behind! Never heard of them before but they sure sound great. I'm often amazed at how many excellent bands from that time just fell through the cracks of history.
  13. You ol' Funkateer, you. Best wishes for a happy, healthy '010!

  14. Waiting for the last disc of the 5th season of Wire to come in via Netflix. I love it that Clark Johnson is in this season.
  15. Weren't the early Bee Gee's Beatles imitators?
  16. Welcome back, Randy! Hope you continue to recover. Merry Christmas!
  17. Oh, yes! BBC America was showing that for awhile, got me kind of hooked, but then they seemed to stop. Anyway, you can find many of the best bits on You-tube.
  18. District 9 was pretty damn bitchin'.
  19. Well, we saw it today. I liked it just fine. I don't know why people are complaining about the story. You can pretty much tell from the previews that it's going to be a Battle For Terra/Dances With Wolves type of thing, and besides, what the hell do people expect from Cameron? Deathless dialog and surprising plot twists? Ain't gonna happen. It looked good, it was entertaining, the flora and fauna of Pandora was fascinating, it didn't bore me. A good time. Although one of my kids said it was too long... And they both want to see it again in 2-D. One of them said the 3-D was unnecessary and he perceived a slight flicker for the first 20 minutes or so. (This didn't happen to me, thank God.) So we'll probably be seeing it again sometime.
  20. Thank-you! Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night.
  21. Tried to see it this morning and it was sold out. Bought tickets for tomorrow.
  22. Tiger Woods was in a car accident??? When did this happen?
  23. Vermont at number 18? Must be those cold winters. Oregon #30??? I freaking love Oregon.
  24. I like the burger at a local place called "Bill's"---medium, toasted bun of course, ketchup and mustard. Hmmm...I could used one right now.
