  1. I was wondering about this too. In addition to "Mode For Joe," I also picked up the Hubbard and Powell releases. All have the light blue on the CD, much lighter than previous Blue Note CD's I've seen.
  2. Thanks very much for the birthday wishes! Other than having to work for a while, it's been a great day. My wife cooked me a Thanksgiving-style dinner, and gave me some great presents, including the Johnny Hodges Verve Mosaic and the Bill Evans "Turn Out The Stars" box. VERY surprising - she's very opposed to buying me CD's, since I "have too many already." (whatever that means ) Anyway, it's been a good day. Thanks!
  3. Many of us have often wished for a Bobby Hutcherson Mosaic to be done. I emailed Mosaic today about the possibility of a set devoted to any vibes player, and here's the response I got: Nothing currently planned but we are thinking of doing Hutcherson's neglected '70s albums as a Mosaic Select. There is hope! While it would be nice to have some of the more difficult to find 60's albums (Happenings, Oblique, Total Eclipse, etc.) as a Mosaic, I'll take what I can get. Email them and tell them you're interested, if you are!
  4. Congratulations!
  5. Hey, be nice to turkey sandwiches!
  6. I'd have a heart attack if this was ever carried in-store. Best Buy didn't even bring the latest batch of RVG's to the stores...at least, not yet. Just about any US CD can be found on the website though, as you've already found. We don't get our employee discount on the website, unfortunately.
  7. Congratulations...And, you've still got a couple days left to go out and buy a bunch of CD's before your wife puts a stop to it.
  8. Welcome to the world of wireless, Jim! I bought a wireless setup a couple years ago, right after I got married, and it's been great. I've never had problems with any of my equipment, and my wife appreciates my being able to sit next to her and do my thing while she does hers. Sitting out on my apartment balcony with the laptop is great, too. I highly recommend it to anyone with a laptop or a desire to avoid wires.
  9. Well said, wesbed. It would be nice if the industry would at least wait to see what happens to sales under Universal's new pricing scheme before putting out copy-protected material all over the place. I hope it bites them in the ass.
  10. 69, of which only two are upgrades. This number doesn't count JRVG's, of which I have 10-15.
  11. We all know that Verve is rather stingy with licensing music to Mosaic for these sets. There was some discussion about this before, and I tend to agree with the possibility that they released the LPR, saw that it didn't do well, and THEN agreed to license the material to Mosaic. Seems pretty reasonable.
  12. At the top of the CJB page, it says it's a limited edition of 5000 copies, but at the bottom, it says this: In collaboration with The Verve Music Group, the Mulligan set is expected to be available at retail stores outside North America shortly after its initial September, 2003 release. These sets are part of the limited edition of 7,500. Anyone know which it really is? I suspect 7500 might be the right number, but...
  13. Just got another email from Mosaic saying that the Pearson will be released in late November.
  14. Daniel, I emailed Mosaic and tried to get a track listing out of them. They didn't give me that, but they did confirm that the albums you mentioned would be included in the set.
  15. Today: The John Coltrane Quartet Plays Stanley Turrentine - Up At Minton's Dorothy Ashby - Afro-Harping ABBA - Gold Art Blakey - The Big Beat Right now: Bill Evans - The Tokyo Concert
  16. Daniel, thanks for the information!
  17. Does anyone know which albums will be included in the Duke Pearson Select? I'm trying to decide if I should order some JRVG's...
  18. Forgive my ignorance, but what will the method of distribution be? Burned CD's? MP3 uploads?
  19. Great session! If you're looking for it, don't bother going to Best Buy. Last month, I was pleasantly surprised to find the last batch of RVG's in stock on their release date - something that had never happened before. I just went to the local store over my lunch break and they didn't have any of them. So, when I got back to the office I checked the inventory system to see which of the local stores would be getting them. Unfortunately, none of them have been ordered for any Best Buy store. Looks like I won't be getting the employee discount when I buy them.
  20. Sent you a PM.
  21. I also picked this one up and watched it on Saturday, and I too enjoyed it more this time around. For once, I pulled myself away from the computer and actually paid attention to the movie (which I usually don't do at home) and found this helped tremendously. It got me excited about the series all over again, so I went and watched the first DVD again right after. Anyway, got it at Best Buy for $15. My wife is now pestering me about buying the expanded edition. I've heard they're going to re-release the first two installments in the theatres right before the third is released later this year. Anyone else heard this?
  22. I agree with Lon on this one. I love my effects processor and personally always play with lots of distortion, but then I don't play jazz, either. When played with acoustic instruments, distorted guitar just sounds out of place. A little reverb is about as far as I would go when adding effects to jazz guitar.
  23. Tofu is GREAT, if it's prepared the right way. I always loved buying fried tofu on the streets of Hong Kong. Even stinky tofu isn't that bad, if you can get past the smell and just eat it. For those who have never heard of it, it has an extremely pungent odor that can be smelled several hundred yards away...and it does stink.
  24. Free For All mentioned several (the RVG's, Verve LP reproductions) that I'm looking forward to. I ordered the Ellington Reprise set, 4 Conns and the Paul Desmond/MJQ CD last night. I'm hoping my wife will give me at least one more Mosaic set for my upcoming birthday. On Jazzmatazz I noticed Kenny Burrell's "Have Yourself A Soulful Little Christmas" is being released as a Verve LPR in October. Someone burned a copy of this for me last year, and it's a great album so I'm pretty excited about that. Also a big fan of the Charlie Brown Christmas special music, so I'm looking forward to the SACD release of that in October. Is it this year that the Roy Eldridge Mosaic is supposed to come out? That one sounds really interesting...and on and on and on...
