Sorry, I was probably the culprit who bought the last set. Listened to the first disc twice now. Very nice, another good recommendation from Jim R.

I've been listening the same old bossa albums for quite some time, and I've been thinking about getting a new infusion of Brazilian music. This seems perfect because it will introduce me to some newer artists on the scene. As you point out the the prices do seem quite reasonable.

Just thought I'd mention that Dusty Groove currently has all five volumes listed on their new arrivals page: http://www.dustygroove.com/new5.htm#2 Jim- Thanks for posting. Just ordered all five volumes; my first "DG" order ever. Looking forward to this very much. P.S. "...the bastards"
  4. A windsor knot pulled (here's the key phrase) "ever-so-slightly" to one side with one indentation under the knot is the ticket. Don't get me started about those handkerchiefs. B-) Those ties need to go back to the dry cleaners. whoa!
  5. no matter. .....actually no brain matter
  6. Agreed, and I don't mean to diminish either one as an individual artist. I just think that they were a perfect fit for each other at that time, for that type of music. Their efforts collectively advanced that cool, introspective/free jazz school into some pretty interesting areas that few artists even today take the time to explore. That music is still way ahead of it's time IMO. A real shame more artists aren't picking up on it and advancing it more.
  7. Hall & Giuffre together was pure magic. A classic case of the sum total being greater than the parts.
  8. Seems more than local. I've noticed that sale at two different Borders in the Chicago suburbs.
  9. Try this one
  10. One of my most played Mosaics. More rewarding (at least for me) with each listen.

    Stevie Wonder

Something tells me that this is not the most opportune time to start that big "Kingpins vs. MGs" poll I've been planning. B-)
  12. I still spin The Extremist & Crystal Planet fairly often. When I really feel like being humbled I put on the Live In San Francisco DVD. That's scarey good! I have never heard of Blues Sacareno. Probably should check him out. P.S. Nice job on the guitar. Good luck waiting. B-)
  13. I still like Joe Satriani very much. I'll buy anything he puts out. At the core he's a melodic player, and that always comes through. I also think he's extremely adept at using effects to create textures and moods, which at least to these ears always add to the musical experience. He's an innovator. I also really like Gary Hoey. I have been pretty much hooked ever since I saw the movie Endless Summer II. Some real fine playing on that soundtrack. At this point I make it a point to at least audition every release. Good player. More often than not these days Jeff Beck disappoints. I'm still very interested in what he does though. The guy is a unique talent; totally quirky and unpredictable and that's cool if not somewhat frustrating. Another player I really like that's not on your list is Brian Setzer. People get turned off by the whole Vegas showman/entertainer side of him. It works for me personally, but I do understand that "your mileage may vary". The guy is a serious student of his instrument and I respect that. He gets bashed by a lot of modern players because of his persona. However the same guys that bash him wouldn't dare get on stage with him. He would eat them alive grinning all the while!
  14. Cheer up, it could have been worse. What if it was Spyro Gyra? B-)

    Spyro Gyra

I was listening to Clifford Brown performing I Don't Stand a Ghost of a Chance With You on my way to work this morning. Now that's some "smooth" jazz!
  16. Good to hear. I'll be picking this one up very soon.
  17. Some great Jimmy Raney on this one. Not sure I've ever heard a guitarist play as fast and clean as Jimmy does on "Parker 51".
  18. Susan Tedeschi with Willie.....
  19. Been digging The Soul Sessions for over a year now. I pretty much take that first record at face value. She obviously loves old school R&B and Soul, and can perform it pretty convincingly. She may not be breaking any new ground (at least not yet). However it's refreshing to see a young musician who digs this music. She may be turning on a whole new generation to this genre. That ain't a bad thing!
  20. A number of years ago I had interest in the home theater/multi-channel music thing and I bought a Denon AVR-5803 receiver. I've lost interest in that approach and I'm on a back to basics kick. I can't replace everything at once so I'm making due with the Denon for now. Actually, a pretty nice audio section as far as receivers go.
  21. Off the top of my head.... 1) B&O 4002 Turntable 2) B&O Beogram TX-2 Turntable 3) Adcom GDA-535 and GFA-555 amps 4) M&K crossover 5) A couple of Nakamichi cassette decks (700 series and Cassette Deck 1) 6) Fosgate surround sound processor. All still operational (I think B-) ) except the TX-2.
  22. Yep!
  23. I was at Borders last Friday. As I was checking out and the cashier asked me if I was a teacher or educator. I said isn't everybody? He laughed and gave me the 25% discount. Make em' laugh! B-)
  24. Up for air....
