Great news regarding WBEZ. You guys should also send your CD to WDCB. The best jazz station in Chicagoland. They don't have the signal strength of WBEZ , however they have a very loyal jazz audience. I imagine that the word of mouth generated by play on their station would translate into sales. www.wdcb.org
Continued good luck!
Agreed. The loping character of the piano intro really sets the mood!
Speaking of intros...
I just today "caught" the chicken pickin' riffs at the beginning of Wealthy Street. Nice.
This thread reminds me of a story I once heard about Jim Hall who while onstage in the middle of a performance forgot to turn his cell phone off. When it rang, he actually answered it and told the person to call him back during the bass solo.
I alternate between Greaze Monkey and Tenderly. However the entire album is so good.
P.S. My 5 yr. old nephew digs Greaze Monkey (he likes the drums). Played the album for him on Friday while babysitting. You guys have wide appeal.
Lot's of good DTB available online. But start with the Sony release, Live At The Georgia Theatre. If you want to hear him in the ABB setting, check out some of the Instant Live releases from the 2004 tour. Derek was in peak form throughout.
This has probably been covered before so I apologize in advance, but does anyone know the origin of the word Bebop? I seem to remember a story that Roy Haynes tells about the origin of the word being coined based on someone's reaction to the sound of the first two notes to the Dizzy Gillespie classic "Groovin' High" Sounds plausible to me. Maybe almost too perfect. Hhmmm?
Had a chance to listen to this yet? Any good?
The cover has caught my eye more than once, already....

I've been listening to so much early 70's material that this one just didn't click upon first listen. I need to give it another shot.
