In mid-October, there will be two items released, dealing with the same material. The Grateful Dead shows at the Fillmore West from 2-27-69 to 3-2-69 are legendary, and much of Live Dead comes from those shows. There will be a 10-CD package, limited to 10,000 copies, and available only from dead.net, that will contain every single note from the entire run. Rhino/WEA will release a 3-CD compilation of selected cuts from this series. The Rhino/WEA package will be available everywhere, including the GDForum store. So, there you go, now you have something else to look forward to! Ouch!

Mosaic: rumored/possible/in-the-works/suggested
Sundog replied to ghost of miles's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Wouldn't mind seeing a "Mosaic Select" treatment of those Milt Jackson Quartet albums from the early 80's documenting their appearance at Ronnie Scott's. Probably not very likely for many reasons but the music is certainly worthy of more attention. -
Rockin' the Rhein is indeed quite good. I like it all very much; really nice versions of Tennessee Jed, Chinatown Shuffle, and Truckin'

Including tax I payed about $220 at the local Tower brick and mortar a few years ago. I think the set was mismarked.

Right, Behind The Sun. That wonderful Phil Collins production!

Yeah, I saw them both on that same tour. Wasn't that during "August'" era Clapton and "Steady Nerves" era Graham? (Two awful albums from otherwise very good artists). I've always thought Graham had a very soulful voice and the Rumor really came up with some smart arrangements that stand the test of time. They were a little more musically adept that most people give them credit for. They were termed "pub rock" however what they did encompassed much more than straight ahead rock. Reggae, Soul, R&B are easy discernable on there early records. One minute they could sound like the Stones (Soul Shoes) the next thing you know they churning out a burning version of "I Want You Back" all the while putting their own musical stamp on everything. Howlin Wind, Heat Treatment, Stick to Me, Squeezings Out Sparks are among my favorite albums. All well worth checking out.

Brinsley Schwarz recorded extensively with Graham Parker. Check out 76-79 era Graham Parker and the Rumor to hear some fine playing by BS. Also, The Real Macaw (1983), The Mona Lisa's Sister (1988), and Human Soul (1990) contain prime BS. P.S. Graham gets no respect! Everyone always mentions Elvis, but I think that Graham was every bit his equal back in the day.

I know what your saying. I very rarely listen them on my own accord any more. That said, I was driving home late on Saturday night and heard "Sway" on the radio from the album Sticky Fingers. When I got home a popped on Sticky Fingers and gave it a listen. Still sounds pretty good to these ears. It's cool when a station deviates ever so slightly from the typical classic rock staples. Reminds you of how good those albums were front to back.

My Sunday Morning music was the sound of my Dewalt cordless drill. Now chilling to.... The Complete Atlantic Recordings Of Lennis Tristano, Lee Konitz, & Warne Marsh (Mosaic), Disc 6
-
Just tacked this one on to a big jazz order I'm placing. Not bad for $23.95.
-
Some of my favorite Konitz. I was unaware of this 3 disc set. (You guys are killing me!)

I think the theme for the Single Disc Series would be; this is a damn fine album that has been out of print for way too long. Enjoy the music, the wonderful fidelity, and the first rate liner notes!

Up. What a great album. Rasberry Beret!
-
Understood.

I lucked into a mint LP copy of Live At The Vanguard a couple of years ago. Paid a whopping $4.99. A real gem at any price.
-
Lucky guess. B-) I do listen to it year round though!
-
I listen to this one year round.
-
I get what your saying about the "one show" aspect of these archival releases. I really like that myself. I'll probably end up getting this one since it's vintage era Dead.
-
Anyone think this could ever happen? Is it economically feasible for a small company like Mosaic to go this route? Seems to me that their excellent reputation would guarantee a certain amount of interest by the jazz buying public.
-
I'll second the recommendation for 12-15-78 Live At VV. It's a very fine album. I probably listen to this album more than any other Burrell title at this point. Not a bad recommendation in the entire bunch IMO. I would add Laid Back to the list though. P.S. Everyone realizes by the time this thread runs it's course, pretty much every KB title will be listed right? B-)

Steppin' Out With The Grateful Dead: England '72 I've almost bought this set about 4 different times. It looks like a can't miss. What do you think?

Check out John Scofield's A Go Go

I don't own anything post Breezin except his 2000 release Absolute Benson. I bought it on the strength of his cover of the Ray Charles tune "Come Back Baby". Really fine singing and his guitar playing on that tune is jaw dropping. Actually his playing on the entire album is quite good. I just don't care for the arrangements and the instrumentation. If there ever was a guy who is in a position to make the kind of album that he really wants to make, it's George. Love to see him pair up with Lonnie Smith.

I voted for "Breezin" however I actually like that album.

Greg, Your getting into Elvis at a very opportune time with all the reissues and twofer's with extra tracks that are on the market now. I'm jealous, most of my Elvis is on vinyl and you wouldn't believe how many 45's and 12 inch singles I had to track down to get those extra tracks that are now widely available. That being said My Aim Is True, This Years Model, Armed Forces, and Get Happy are always mentioned, but for very good reason. You can't go wrong here. Kudo's to you on Blood and Chocolate and King Of America. Two very fine albums from a comeback year of sorts for Elvis. Don't forget about Trust, Imperial Bedroom, and Almost Blue (Elvis Does Country). P.S. Check out The Coward Brothers
