  1. I know what your saying. I very rarely listen them on my own accord any more. That said, I was driving home late on Saturday night and heard "Sway" on the radio from the album Sticky Fingers. When I got home a popped on Sticky Fingers and gave it a listen. Still sounds pretty good to these ears. It's cool when a station deviates ever so slightly from the typical classic rock staples. Reminds you of how good those albums were front to back.
  2. My Sunday Morning music was the sound of my Dewalt cordless drill. Now chilling to.... The Complete Atlantic Recordings Of Lennis Tristano, Lee Konitz, & Warne Marsh (Mosaic), Disc 6
  3. Just tacked this one on to a big jazz order I'm placing. Not bad for $23.95.
  4. Some of my favorite Konitz. I was unaware of this 3 disc set. (You guys are killing me!)
  5. I think the theme for the Single Disc Series would be; this is a damn fine album that has been out of print for way too long. Enjoy the music, the wonderful fidelity, and the first rate liner notes!
  6. Up. What a great album. Rasberry Beret!
  7. I lucked into a mint LP copy of Live At The Vanguard a couple of years ago. Paid a whopping $4.99. A real gem at any price.
  8. Lucky guess. B-) I do listen to it year round though!
  9. I listen to this one year round.
  10. I get what your saying about the "one show" aspect of these archival releases. I really like that myself. I'll probably end up getting this one since it's vintage era Dead.
  11. Anyone think this could ever happen? Is it economically feasible for a small company like Mosaic to go this route? Seems to me that their excellent reputation would guarantee a certain amount of interest by the jazz buying public.
  12. I'll second the recommendation for 12-15-78 Live At VV. It's a very fine album. I probably listen to this album more than any other Burrell title at this point. Not a bad recommendation in the entire bunch IMO. I would add Laid Back to the list though. P.S. Everyone realizes by the time this thread runs it's course, pretty much every KB title will be listed right? B-)
  13. Steppin' Out With The Grateful Dead: England '72 I've almost bought this set about 4 different times. It looks like a can't miss. What do you think?
  14. Check out John Scofield's A Go Go
  15. I don't own anything post Breezin except his 2000 release Absolute Benson. I bought it on the strength of his cover of the Ray Charles tune "Come Back Baby". Really fine singing and his guitar playing on that tune is jaw dropping. Actually his playing on the entire album is quite good. I just don't care for the arrangements and the instrumentation. If there ever was a guy who is in a position to make the kind of album that he really wants to make, it's George. Love to see him pair up with Lonnie Smith.
  16. I voted for "Breezin" however I actually like that album.
  17. Greg, Your getting into Elvis at a very opportune time with all the reissues and twofer's with extra tracks that are on the market now. I'm jealous, most of my Elvis is on vinyl and you wouldn't believe how many 45's and 12 inch singles I had to track down to get those extra tracks that are now widely available. That being said My Aim Is True, This Years Model, Armed Forces, and Get Happy are always mentioned, but for very good reason. You can't go wrong here. Kudo's to you on Blood and Chocolate and King Of America. Two very fine albums from a comeback year of sorts for Elvis. Don't forget about Trust, Imperial Bedroom, and Almost Blue (Elvis Does Country). P.S. Check out The Coward Brothers

Sorry, I was probably the culprit who bought the last set. Listened to the first disc twice now. Very nice, another good recommendation from Jim R.

I've been listening the same old bossa albums for quite some time, and I've been thinking about getting a new infusion of Brazilian music. This seems perfect because it will introduce me to some newer artists on the scene. As you point out the the prices do seem quite reasonable.

Just thought I'd mention that Dusty Groove currently has all five volumes listed on their new arrivals page: http://www.dustygroove.com/new5.htm#2 Jim- Thanks for posting. Just ordered all five volumes; my first "DG" order ever. Looking forward to this very much. P.S. "...the bastards"
  21. A windsor knot pulled (here's the key phrase) "ever-so-slightly" to one side with one indentation under the knot is the ticket. Don't get me started about those handkerchiefs. B-) Those ties need to go back to the dry cleaners. whoa!
  22. no matter. .....actually no brain matter
  23. Agreed, and I don't mean to diminish either one as an individual artist. I just think that they were a perfect fit for each other at that time, for that type of music. Their efforts collectively advanced that cool, introspective/free jazz school into some pretty interesting areas that few artists even today take the time to explore. That music is still way ahead of it's time IMO. A real shame more artists aren't picking up on it and advancing it more.
  24. Hall & Giuffre together was pure magic. A classic case of the sum total being greater than the parts.
