I'm leaning that way myself based on the bits and pieces I've heard on the radio so far. B-)

Anyone have thoughts on this recent release?

Good excuse to listen to this one! Sorry to jump the gun but, Jimmy Jones' solo rendition of Take The "A" Train which closes the album is one of the most perfectly beautiful melancholy pieces of music I've ever heard.

What artist has the largest available catalog?
Sundog replied to Hardbopjazz's topic in Miscellaneous Music
I thought Bill Evans would be up there but he "only" clocks in at 209. -
This clocks in at slightly over 30 minutes but it works for me! 1) Richard "Groove" Holmes, Misty 2) Richard "Groove" Holmes, Misty 3) Richard "Groove" Holmes, Misty 4) Richard "Groove" Holmes, Misty 5) Richard "Groove" Holmes, Misty P.S. I actually do this occasionally, especially good for those really early days in the dead of winter.

Truely sad news. His playing on Stephane Grappellis' Young Django is one of the things that got me into jazz in the first place. Something just resonated with me from the very first time I ever heard him play. RIP

Thanks for the replies everyone. The mystery is solved!

I recently heard a really slow vocal version of Night In Tunisia with Sarah singing. Anyone know what album this is on? It might alternatively be called Love Interlude. Allmusic was no help. Thanks in advance.

King Curtis + Kingpins + Memphis Horns + Billy Preston = ......and beat well!!!

That sounds cool. It seems like Herbie would be a good fit to jam with the Allman Brothers Band or vice versa. The love of jazz and improvisational music that they share seems like a good fit. Additionally, more than once I've heard Warren Haynes quote Herbie's Chameleon in his solos over the years. He's obviously a fan of Herbie. One can only hope!

Whatever bro... At their best, both true originals who could/can really bring something to a tune. On a related tangent getting back to the original thought of the the thread... over the years Mick seems to have tried to emulate both of them from time to time. Not bad roll models all things considered. Both pretty soulful in their own unique ways. ....funny how?

I like Mick quite a little but my favorite rock (blues/rock) singer is this gentleman.... Followed by this gentlemen...

CD's/Albums of studio or live performaces?
Sundog replied to Hardbopjazz's topic in Miscellaneous Music
This one is a bit of an oddity, it was done "live" with a crowd in the studio. The results speak for themselves. I have know real preference. However, albums that are "constructed" in the studio sometimes leave me a bit cold. I'm talking about multiple overdubs and other studio trickery. There are exceptions of course, but generally speaking I'm not really into it. -
Sounds interesting, but those headstocks always bugged me. It played EX-DC version last weekend. I auditioned my new cabinet and head with this guitar. It sounds really nice. Fit, finish, and playability are all excellent. The sound is reminiscent of a Gibson 175 except maybe a bit more bottom end. It's a lot of guitar for $1,550 (street price). For the record I really like the art deco headstock. Old school rules

All my problems started when I got new tubes and had the amp rebiased. It's a real long story... the amp definitely can be salvaged. I'm just so fed up with my "repair" experiences that I just decided to screw it, and buy what I really wanted. I pretty much stopped doing rock and blues gigs last year so I can get by without the Fender.

I've been having issues with my Fender Deluxe Reverb for about 6 months. Just can't seem to get that clean sound that I used to be able to get out of it. Very long story short, I finally broke down this weekend and got myself a new rig. Bought a Raezer's EDGE cabinet and Acoustic Image integrated head. This set up is a phenomenal combo for clean jazz sounds. If your looking for clean tube-like tone in a very portable package consider this setup. Here's some links. Raezer's Edge Cabinet Clarus R1 Integrated Head P.S. This set up is also excellent for amplified steel string acoustic. Played a Breedlove through this set up at the store. No coloration whatsoever. True acoustic sound only louder.

Thanks to everyone who has posted. A lot of very good/interesting information in this thread. It's been a education. Really enjoying Flood and Thrust. I need to spend some time with the WB material. However my initial cursory listening tells me I will be enjoying this material for a long time to come.
