I once made a purchase for a box set of Mingus; seconds after I paid I got a message that the seller was suspended and I shouldn't pay. With much correspondence and hassle following that and no result, I finally had to 'eat' the cost.

If you enjoy what used to be called "West Coast Jazz" (whichever coast it was on), you should try to find Dave Pell's Octet on RCA.

Interesting. I just finished listening to The Best of Hank Crawford and Jimmy McGriff. Fond memories of seeing them, including here in a small club (Monterey) with Clint Eastwood and Diana Krall in the audience.

Agreed. One of my favorites (pre-Trane influence) is SMACK UP, tunes written by saxophonists.

Actually, what I meant by the "once" comment is that rather than buy the cd, I might be happy hearing it live the one time. There are many groups I go see (not particularly jazz) that I have no intention of buying music from, but I'm willing to go see them perform. My music collection is getting out of hand, so sometimes it's better to just enjoy the music in the now and let it go. Of course, sometimes seeing someone live does make me buy their music too.

I'll catch a live performance with many of the same folks as part of San Francisco Jazz Festival on May 31.
