I've got one from childhood: Louis Armstrong.

A sweet man, great spirit, sharp social observer, modest about his talents, always working to be 'better.' I treasure the times I've seen him and the 'hangs' we had in 2009. Condolences to Linda.

Thanks, Allen! -
Blue Wind press has just published my tenth book of poems, selecting from 1962-2010, including previously uncollected work from the past and a brand new section at the end. The book can be ordered from the press or pre-ordered on Amazon. So, to all my friends here, I suggest the book may be a good holiday gift? Here's a link to the first review of the book: link Thanks, David

I still remember Randy's quartet with Booker Ervin (1964).

If you can find "Lee Konitz Meets Jimmy Giuffre" (double disc on Verve) you get that album plus Konitz (and Bill Russo arr) "An Image with Strings" and Giuffre's "Tangents for Orchestra."

Jazz and Blues take a major hit in Buffalo
David Gitin replied to Ed S's topic in Jazz Radio & Podcasts
When I was a kid in Buffalo there was only Joe Rico (bop primarily). Sometime in the early '60s Carroll Hardy (souljazz) was around. I took a shot on WUFO introducing Buffalo airwares to Ornette, Cecil, and so on... -

Kudos for presenting a concert of music by Wilder. The mention of McPartland's album reminds me of the neglected, out of print, one by Bob Brookmeyer "7 x Wilder" (Verve) which was terrific! (I'll guess it's 1960 or 1961).

Bill, that Dudu Pukwana tune is called Angel Nemali. Thanks for coming. It was a blast, was it not? I remember that tune from a Hugh Masekela London album around 1970 or so (which included Dud Pukwana). This was a tune I used to pay quite a bit in my dj era, -

I've just returned (to California) from Florida where my girlfriend is still suffering the cold spell. When I passed through Atlanta airport, the television reported temp of 19 degrees Fahrenheit! -
I attended that concert at the Great American Music Hall which was special; I've always hoped that the rest of the concert would be issued on a followup disc.

Will you still be in S.F. on Feb. 3? I'll be up there (from Monterey), daytime free. I'm a former resident so it will be easy to advise you and/or meet you. PM me? -
Ah, memories. I lived in the Haight (San Francisco) in the '60s, and of course saw H.P. Lovecraft, Sopwith Camel, and many more mentioned here. Gale Garnett used to hang at the No Name bar in Sausalito.

Tristes Tropiques and The Savage Mind were influential to me in late '60s (the latter inspired an international arts mag I edited, "Bricoleur").
