  1. Hey, check it out, they're using my title!!! I'm gonna sue Vincent Walburn for royalties! Um, this may push the release date back a bit....
  2. I've bought all the seasons out so far (1-8, 9 out in March 2007) and I remember liking 4 (The Fingerbang episode) & 7 (The J Lo one (Taco Taco!), South Park Is Gay, Christian Rock Hard) alot. Try season 7. They're all good, you can't go wrong and don't forget the movie (Unclefucka!)
  3. http://www.amazon.com/o/ASIN/0415967147/re...7754939-9049611 When the hell is this book coming out? I swear I've seen it on Amazon since 2004. 2004! It said November 30, 2006, then just after that it was changed to July 1, 2007! Anyone know any info?
  4. Quadrophenia is one of my favorite Who albums, particularly The Punk Meets The Godfather, Cut My Hair & Helpless Dancer (a lot of emotion in Daltrey's vocal). By Numbers is the only original Who album I'm not that keen on, half of it I liked.
  5. I'm not a football fan, though I appriciate it though a friend who is an intense fan. I wanted to pass that I met someone who's mother married Jack Larson of the Chicago Bears, after he finished playing, and was "brought up" by him. That's in quotes because this guy hated Jack Larson. Said he was a drunk. A doctor told him if he didn't stop drinking that he'd be dead in 90 days, to which Larson responded, "What's life without booze & broads." The day after a drunken Thanksgiving he died at the breakfast table. His mom died a year to the day later.
  6. I just bought We Jam Econo and didn't like it as much as I would've liked to. I think it was the format of it; it didn't seem to have much with the interviews. I need to watch it again. There's an unreleased song on the 2nd disc from The Starwood show called Art Analysis; great song. The unedited Bard interview is hard to sit through with the interviewer instruction them on how to answer. What stuck out to me is towards the end when talking about their tour with REM which was about to start, Boon says his own date of death; December 22 (1985). Just enough to send a chill possibly. I also found it amazing how Boon would be out of tune, still play, and it didn't sound extremely bad. Some of the things he played, he didn't need to be in tune for.
  7. The new album might make people pine for the good old days...of Face Dances & It's Hard. Actally Cry If You Want, the last song on It's Hard, is a favorite. It sounds like an update from the same person in Won't Get Fooled Again...which it is.
  8. I just moved to Durham last month. I don't know about jazz stuff, but if you want rock stuff, Schoolkids in Chapel Hill on East Franklin St is a good place. One store is for new and one store is used and they're right next door to each other.
  9. Ripped is great, but there are 3 songs (all Thurston) where the lyrics are just weak: Do You Believe In Rapture, Sleeping Around & Or. All the music is good, but those lyrics...eesh!
  10. This is one that has been listed on Jazzmatazz since last year. It still says 2005 next to it the last time I looked. I figure since Sony halted future boxes, this one has been cut also.
  11. Jandek On Corwood We Jam Econo-haven't seen this yet, but I know I'll like it. It's about the band The Minutemen.
  12. Take two. I accepted another bid for the same amount and I'll be going down tomorrow between 9-10am. Fingers crossed!
  13. Check this shit out: They didn't fucking show and I couldn't get this c*nt on the phone. She finally called and said the truck sustained more damage from the awning accident they had. I fucking laid into her and told her to forget it & this was THE WORST customer service I have ever had and to refund my deposit which she said she would do though she hung up before I could say the word fuck directly to her. I put my stuff up for bids again and got 2 already. Maybe, just maybe, I'll be on my way in a day or two. Love, Dave
  14. How right you are Chuck! They are close, but understandibly exhausted as am I. We agreed to start at 6am tomorrow morning.
  15. So it's 7:15pm, 13 hours after they should've shown up. They are in Greenwich, CT and asking me for fucking directions because their gps system isn't working. I so want to tell these guys to fuck off, but I couldn't get someone in fast enough. I should be in NC by now had I left around 6-7am. This is costing me only $1000, but it'll now cost an overnight stay somewhere. When they get here, I'm gonna punch all of them in the ass. DO NOT USE TOP SECRET MOVERS OUT OF WASHINGTON DC. Their secret is...THEY SUCK....HARD!!!
  16. So by 3pm I'm still waiting so I call & leave a polite message. I got a call a few minutes later: they are in the Bronx and hit a low awning and did some damage to their truck. They are fixing it and are still on their way here. I told them I wasn't going to drive overnight and they said they'd gladly stop when I wanted to, they just want to get home after this particular calamity filled trip. I hope the drive is uneventful.
  17. Well it's Sept 2nd and I'm still in CT. The movers were hauled off the road for 10 hours by the Dept of Transportation for not taking time to sleep so we scheduled for the same time the next day (5-6am). Come 8AM, no calls, no one showed, I start calling them and asking them to return my call. After 2 more hours & no calls, the fuck word stared flying in messages. About 10:30, I got a call from them. They weren't too happy with my messages as they had been stuck in bad weather and their phone had been dropped in water. I explained that if I had received a call, I would never have left them messages that I did and that I sincerely apologize, but asked her to realize that I had no idea what was going on and was wondering if I'd been ripped off (they have my credit card #). I said it was really unfortunate as neither could know what was going on. She understood my stress and I apologized again for my behavior so I hope it's been smoothed over. They called from NJ and are on there way here now so by 1 or 2PM, I should be on the road, but I don't know if I'll be able to drive straight through. I've been up since 4AM. I figure it'll take about 12 hours to get there. I'm looking forward to laughing at this whole situation once it's over.
  18. Thanks to all who've posted. I've had a few people tell me they are envious of me doing such a big thing. They usually have kids & a house whereas I don't so it's much much easier. I will have 3, count 'em, 3 cats in my car in cages. It's gonna be a trying day for them also. My wife is kepping 1 cat (yeah 4 total). The oldest one she had before we met and I'm quite emotional about leaving both my wife & her cat.
  19. Going through a divorce, decided to move near my brother who lives in Durham. Lots o' stress, but I'm looking forward to it also...and scared as shit. I'll be running right into the hurricane coming up from Florida. I've been trying to find a job but haven't had any luck. I work in digital printing and have come close, but positions didn't materialize. I'm gonna try to catch up with ...impossible, haven't seen him since Providence late 2002. Anyway, if anyone has any lead for a job or just back-patting words, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.
  20. I agree with your assessment. It's very life affirming in a weird way if you choose to believe it's about someone (possibly Smith) who has/had cancer. There is a 2cd live album in between Glasgow Sunday & Glasgow Monday called Newcastle Monday (I think) I stopped buying the studio albums because I don't derive any enjoyment from them, but the live ones are very interesting. I'll keep buying those. He has released a dvd of Glasgow Sunday also. It's interesting just to watch a guy who, to his fans, is such a mystery. Makes you realize, he's just a regular guy.
  21. I'm surprised no one has posted anything here. The only reggae I own is Marley & I don't listen to it all that much, but enjoy it when I do. I had just been listening to Kaya & Survival when this thread popped up. I had thought about buying a book on him when I was buying his cds but never did, so this your posts are interesting reading. For some reason, Kaya is a favorite of mine. I think because it's just an album of good songs and not overly political, though I like that stuff too.
  22. Has anyone really been that anxious for an 'On The Corner' box set? I own 'On The Corner' because it's Miles and I'm "supposed" to, but can't imagine sitting through 5-7 hours of it, and paying to do so. Yet, if/when the box set appears, I'll wait and get it from yourmusic.com because it's Miles and I'm "supposed" to. I'm glad he retired for awhile in '75 - gives me a natural jumping off point in his discography, so that I don't have to feel compelled to own the 80's stuff. You are aware that you are the only one "making" yourself by anything, right?
  23. They'll reissue all this for the upteenth time, but stop all work on the box sets of On The Cornor & Get Up With It. Go figure.
  24. The photographers name is the same as my dad. His name is Robert Parent, but the photographer and my name are not one in the same. He grew up in Massachusetts also, but in the Worcester area though he did go to Berkley in the late 50's - early 60's. Played trumpet though was a frustrated drummer. It's ironic as drums were what I picked up on at age 8 or so from my dad's jazz records though I didn't start listening to jazz until late 2001.
