  1. Still wondering if the Roach/Shepp album The Long March was going to get reissued. Has their album Force ever come out on cd?
  2. It's nice to see this thread again. I'm behind 2 live albums (I'm no longer buying the studio ones, unless he plays with other people). 50 albums in 29 years. While I don't think his music works all the time, I do think his album art works every time. If you made a collage of the covers it would look fantastic.
  3. http://www.myspace.com/harkingsongs .:.impossible is a fan of mine http://www.myspace.com/puddleworcester My band from the 90's
  4. Would you like to buy an O Circular & sweet It'll cost you just a nickel... A NICKEL!?! SShhhh! a nickel? Right.
  5. There was a whole thread about Caiman a while ago. lots of bashing.
  6. If you are the Christ Yes, the great Jesus Christ Prove to me you're no fool Walk across my swimming pool If you do this for me Then I'll let you go free C'mon you king of the Jews! If you are the Christ Yes, the great Jesus Christ Prove to me you're divine Turn my water into wine... I have to say I love a number of song from Jesus Christ Superstar of which this is one. What's the buzz tell me what's-a happening!
  7. One of my favorite bits to listen to in all of jazz is the first riff in the first song. It's only about 2 seconds, but that last note is just...I don't know how to describe it. It's that live sound.
  8. I have this on a cdr. what i thought was interesting was a version of the song Skies Of America which, to me, doesn't sound at all like the released version and I LOVE that version.
  9. I just stumbled onto this band which features the drummer from The Bad Plus, who's name I've seen on this board quite a few times, but always thought, what a terrible name, and being ignorant when I choose to be, never checked them out. The reason I found them is their bass player is GREG NORTON of HUSKER DU! One of my favorite bands ever. Anyway, I liked it very much. Very punk math rock with a rhodes. http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fusea...endid=158078184
  10. For anyone nearby, this place has a small restaraunt attached and has jazz every Friday night for a $7 cover. You can also tell the band you want to play with them. I got up and played drums for the first time on a jazz song. It was a blur to me. I was just hangin' on and played adequately. I couldn't get my mind out of a regular rock type beat, I was too nervous, but I'm glad I did it. Jazz is fucking scary the first time!!! The song was called Just In Time. I have no idea if I even had heard the song before.

    Roland Kirk

I've been re-reading John Kurth's Bright Moments. Not the best written book, but since it's the only one, I'll gladly read it. I've listening to Kirk for the first time in over a year, but I don't know why I haven't listened in a while. I forgot how much I like the album Volunteered Slavery and Slightly Latin. I like him because he was a great songwriter as well as a musician.
  12. I agree with Scott Dolan on the Final cut: Possible Pasts/One Of The Few/ The Gunner's Dream. My favorite solo piece from Ummagumma is Nick Mason's. And yes, his drumming was more interesting in the beginning, but once Syd got tossed out, it had it's moments. The drums on Scream Thy Last scream are great.
  13. Hey, I started the old thread! I don't remember that at all! I put in dave9199 and got: Macktastic D. Gates Put in my name Dave Parent and got: Silicon Slick Parent Large Yeah, that works.
  14. I've always felt Nick Mason was a boring drummer, but his performance on Pompeii's Saucerful is really great. I especially like this version of Echoes.
  15. Has anyone heard the studio stuff from 1976 & 1978? Is it still in the same vein as his 70's albums?
  16. Guy, you doing the same state to state move I did in Sept 06; CT to NC (I'm in Durham). In the winter here (though I haven't experienced this yet) it's more ice storms than snow. I haven't been here long enough to have an opinion other than I've realized being from New England, I swear a lot for no reason, but here they really don't do it. They say dang a lot. The people I work with are very nice people, easy to get along with. I felt Hartford, CT was pretty soulless, I didn't spend much time in New Haven, but it just looks better than Hartford. I like to quote my brother (who's been here since 1992) on going outside of the Triangle of Durham/Chapel Hill/Raleigh: "That's dirty T-shirt country."
  17. I wouldn't say I'm a Zappa or Beefheart fan since I don't own any of their albums though I have a couple cdrs of each, but Zoogz Rifts does sound like a further link in that chain. I discovered him when buying stuff off of the SST label in the mid-80's. I had a comp called Looser Than Clams, really funny shit & I also really liked the music. I also bought Idiots On A Miniture Golf Course but stopped at buying anymore but don't remember why. He actually has a myspace page with some mp3s on it for anyone interested. Does anyone on this board remember him? http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fusea...endid=129889324

    Roland Kirk

The only ones I didn't like where the last 3 studio albums, I forgot what label they were on. Some good songs, but it just didn't grab me. The vocal version of Giant Steps being the worst.

    Roland Kirk

I'm amazed it took Bright Moments this long to respond to this thread. Don't you have an alarm that goes off whenever someone posts a new Kirk thread on this board?
  20. My favorite Wright song is Remember A Day on Saucerful Of Secrets. I remember liking Summer '68 on Atom Heart Mother also. The verses to his It Would Be So Nice are horrible, but I really like the bridge to the chorus & the chorus itself.
  21. Actually my post is based on total ignorance; I've never heard any of his post 1975 stuff, but so far have felt no interest in it wanting to hear it. It's always possible, and very much in my character, that I would want to hear it. I'm sure now I'll go & listen to clips at amazon.
  22. If Vince wants to hold up a box of Miles's 80's Columbia stuff from being released, I am in his corner!
  23. Do you think they'll ever reissue a domestic remaster of the two 1975 live albums?
