  4. Hello. Does anyone have copies of the following that they are willing to part with? Anthony Braxton, “Quartet (Santa Cruz) 1993” (Hat Art 6190) Clusone Trio, “Soft Lights & Sweet Music” (Hat Art 6153) Gerry Hemingway, “Demon Chaser” (Hat Art 6137) Gerry Hemingway, “Marmalade King” (Hat Art 6164) I'd be most interested in a buy or trade. I'm fast becoming a big Gerry Hemingway fan, and I am finding that most of his recordings are out of print unfortunately.
  5. Am I right in thinking that this is the only one of this series that had not appeared as a part of the older Blue Note Works 16- or 20-bit TOCJs?
  6. Could not agree more. Perhaps Mosaic can be convinced to lease and release the material again on CDs. Since they would be releasing the material on CDs, they would not be exactly going back on their word that they release each set of material only once. Perhaps we can lobby them to do so for some anniversary -- sort of an appreciation to all their loyal supporters/customers. Another set I hope Mosaic does is a set of Artie Shaw's music. Complete Gramercy 5 sessions would be very nice indeed. I once contacted Mosaic about such a set, and MC wrote back saying that Artie Shaw wants too much money for it. I guess that would be a non-issue now.
  7. Just an amazing recording. Highly recommended.
  8. I think it was about a year ago when Hiroshi Tanno e-mailed me to ask whether I would like a copy of this. I had once tried to order it from him not knowing that it was oop. He had apparently saved that info. So, I bought a new sealed copy for 2000 yen. Slightly lower than $20 at that time. A good date, but not worth $75.
  9. Up for the last time with price reductions.
  10. Thanks. That coupon expired yesterday. Rats!!! I guess I will wait a bit to see whether there are other coupons that will be available in the near future.
  11. If you have, was the experience positive? Any problems? I am trying to find the best way to get the Miles Davis CDs coming out in a couple of weeks. Thanks.
  12. By "pre-war" Lester Young, do people mean his playing on Basie sessions now available on Decca/Universal and Columbia/Sony? Are there other sessions that he led himself? Thanks in advance. I have the Commodore, Keynote, Aladdin, and Verve sessions and like them all. But I wouldn't mind checking out even better stuff.
  13. Up a bit.

  15. That would be my preference as well. Lock the thread maybe (at the request of the person who started it), but keep the content. I've sent an e-mail to b-3er asking about this possibility.
  16. Unless someone has strong objections, I'd like to delete this thread in a day or two. Although I do not regret doing it, I found it unpleasant to post my initial message, and I would like to put the incident behind me and forget about it as soon as possible. I think anyone who would have looked at this thread has looked at it by now, and I do not expect pryan to try to make amends. Better to move on, it seems.
  17. Perhaps you are right. But what would you say is the appropriate length of time? In fact, I waited 4 days. But I have a feeling that you would not consider that long enough either. My judgment was that given pryan's previous inability or unwillingness to respond to e-mails, it was not really useful to wait much longer.
  18. I can only say that I've tried to state the facts as accurately as I can. And I gave you sufficient opportunity to address my concerns. As I said in my message to you of Feb. 16, I was going to wait for your response for 3 days before assuming that you will not be responding.
  19. This is a warning about a seller on this Board -- pryan. Because his actions in connection with a recent transaction seem to me to fall well below the standard that I’ve come to expect from tens of past transactions with other Board members, I am posting this warning, with much reluctance. Last month, pryan put on sale some OOP Mosaic sets. In response to my question about the condition of his Sam Rivers set, pryan assured me that everything is in excellent condition. On Jan. 20, he and I reached an agreement on a partial sale/partial trade. He was to send me the Rivers set, and I was to send him 3 Japanese CDs and a postal money order for $41. Included in that sum was $5 that pryan demanded when I asked for insurance. We agreed to send the shipments in the next 2 days. I sent my shipment out the next day, but pryan did not mail the Mosaic set until 2 weeks later -- Feb. 4. Meanwhile, when the set did not arrive as expected, I started to e-mail pryan asking whether he mailed the set. He completely ignored my e-mails and did not respond. On Feb. 5, when I noticed some new posts that pryan had made on this Board, I made a post on one of his threads asking whether he had received my e-mails. In response, he made a terse post saying that he had received the messages, and that the Mosaic set had been sent. On Feb. 6, pryan finally e-mailed me saying that he sent the set on Feb. 4 and that he was too busy to send it earlier. The set finally arrived on Feb. 14. The set was packed in a thin cardboard box, without any other protection such as bubble wrap, a plastic bag, etc. Perhaps as a result of this, the Moaic box has a couple of bumps and wrinkles on the front picture panel resulting from the bumps. The front panel also has some scratches. The booklet also has a bump on one corner. The shipment, as far as I can see, also was not insured. On Feb. 16, after listening to the CDs to make sure that they were not defective, I sent an e-mail to pryan pointing out the discrepancies between his description of the set and the condition in which I received it, and also the fact that the shipment was uninsured. I asked for $15 to cover the insurance I paid for but did not get, and also the reduction in the value of the set. No response from pryan.
  20. Unfortunately, I do not have a turntable, and will have to get a CD of the Town Hall. I just checked out Coleman's webpage and discovered that there were many live recordings between 1962 and 1968 -- not just Town Hall, Croydon, and Stockholm, but also Chappaqua, Paris, Tivoli, Rome, and Milano. Wow! It'd be great to have these collected together into a box set. Does anyone here know Coleman personally? The last 2 are quartet recordings with 2 bassists -- Izenzon & Haden -- and Blackwell on drums. Those recordings would be very nice to get. Last year, I went to see Coleman live at the Hill Auditorium in Ann Arbor, and the band he brought was a quartet with 2 bassists. It had a very interesting, and a bit ominous sound. I was hoping that there would be a recording of that group, but no luck so far.
  21. By the way, is the Town Hall Concert worth getting? I notice that it has recently been reissued by ESP. Also, has the London Concert ever been issued on CD?
  22. I just found a 1994 Japanese release of this 1966 Ornette Coleman recording. I didn't even know that this recording existed before seeing it at a used CD store in Ann Arbor over the weekend. I've listened to it only once, but the impression is very favorable. The band is the same trio that played on the 2 Blue Note live recordings of 1965 -- trio with Izenson & Moffett. For some reason, I can't warm up to Ornette Coleman recordings after "Empty Foxhole". But I really like his stuff before then. So I am very happy to find this recording, which was recorded only months before "Empty Foxhole".
  23. Are the VICJ 41000 CDs produced by the same folks (Tamaki Beck and Shigeo Miyamoto) who did the VICJ 2000 series using 20-bit K2 technology? Are these new ones K2s as well? If anyone owns one of these 41000 VICJ CDs, I'd like to hear whether there is any difference between them and the older VICJ 2000 series, except the price. Thanks.
  24. pryan, I've sent you a couple of PMs about the Rivers set I bought from you 2 weeks ago. Have you received them? Please send me a response if you got them. Thanks.
  25. I was in Austin in October, and checked out Waterloo and Cheap CDs. I was very disappointed. Waterloo annoyingly mixes jazz with other genres of music. And in the end, I did not think they had much jazz. A lot of fluff and no substance. I miss the days when every college town had 2-3 very good record stores.
