Not so sure on this one. I know they were the first ons to do the full works ie with extras as before with Japanese cds they were usually just the original lp issue format..... I of course got the tocj I think ...or did I ?? -_- ...cannot remember right now Never understood why I must admit but I am sure there are plenty of reasons...did you pick up the Blue Trails cd which had no real rarities but a few that were left off the TOCJ issues....it was the one with the Blue Train cover mind you these were not RVGs details below thanks to www.jazzdisco.org 1601: Various Artists - Blue Trails: The Rare Tracks was the title TOCJ 1601 Various Artists - Blue Trails: The Rare Tracks Kenny Dorham (tp) Hank Mobley (ts) Cecil Payne (bars) Horace Silver (p) Percy Heath (b) Art Blakey (d) Rudy Van Gelder Studio, Hackensack, NJ, January 30, 1955 tk.9 K.D.'s Cab Ride (Echo of Spring) Johnny Griffin (ts) Wynton Kelly (p) Curly Russell (b) Max Roach (d) Rudy Van Gelder Studio, Hackensack, NJ, April 17, 1956 tk.12 The Way You Look Tonight tk.16 Cherokee Ira Sullivan (tp) J.R. What a wonderful and liberating idea. We have plenty of that please in the future! About time and cannot wait.......if ever there was a way to wet your appetite this was it. Thank you Blue Note Andy
-

-

Which Mosaic Are You Enjoying Right Now?
andybleaden replied to Soulstation1's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Just been waltzing around Stockport town centre with my earphones in listening to a few tracks from the Jackie Mclean set Was naffed off , now chilled out and back at work -
What was your first Mosaic?
andybleaden replied to Hardbopjazz's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Mine was the Larry Young set back ....oooh ages ago .....had lots but only have ever sold the LP sets I had when I got rid of all my LPs...that got me many more mosaic sets on cd though so I was happy and replaced all that I had lost either box sets or on cds... I do regret not having the tina brooks booklet any more as well as the ike quebec john hardee booklet although I have all the music on Japanese cds etc I have just about all ( if not all ) of the Blue Note ones save the MOnk and Powell but had that stuff on cd anyway I will never forget the first set though ...( I know I have told this story elsewhere on the board before ( snore!) but I had a batch of old lps spare from blue note which I swapped for the larry young set ...it was AWESOME So much to enjoy over 6 discs from the sides with Grant Green and the later Young Material I could never sell that set for just that reason...got it from Decoy Records in Manchester UK no longer there sadly I also remember the excitment of the first delivery of a set...Art Blakey I think...big box..solid wrapping etc...decent customer service....nervous phone calls from the UK, trying to dodge paying huge import fees (and winning ) and the voice of the woman on the other end of the phone Anyway...ordering online is easier now and I have many many more sets but Larry Youngs set is still there,...a little more used looking maybe but still kickin my ass whenever I put it on! -
Ah I thought that was just me...I forgot the locking...yeh that happens when I leave it plugged and charging for ages...not usually though. I always get gizmo issues of some sort though and this one is relatively free of hassle....and I have really tanked it to death Only just bough ta smaller one for my cycle to work as it was a little big and I did not need 300 lps for a 45 min bike ride...well maybe I did but I chose a 1 gb matchbox to supplement
-
Yeah and I thought Keith Jarrett had been doing backing vocals all along!
-
Very few I guess I have gradually either hunted em down or got help with friends etc I guess the ones that I would like to hear that stick in are Jermemy Steig Wayfaring Stranger Bobby Hutcherson Inner Glow hmm The Three Sounds Vibrations erm I think that is about it. Mosaic took care of the early stuff, reissues did the rest and a few favours but there must be more....
-
I have a creative Zen 30 gb jukebox thingy ......I hve to say it is the best gismo I have ever ever bought! There you go could not get clearer than that!

Exactly! WTF for now again

The recent rise of out-in-the-open CDR trading...
andybleaden replied to Jim Alfredson's topic in Forums Discussion
I must admit you do have a point about valuing what you have more. I get more jazz now than for a while and there is a cue. Mind you having an mp3 player to transport and listen makes a fair dent in the queue. However no matter which you keep or not it is still my old favourite blue note recordings that make me sit back and pat my feet and smile when my favourite solos or licks are played.....always have done always will In reality the offering/looking for section should give people the chance to let others know they have or need something without explicitly asking for cdrs. What people then do privately is up to them. There is though something also nice about the ones that still elude you Mine for instance well that would be hypocritical here after what I wrote! -
Yeh I had that on the other day when cleaning around the house. That and that certain feeling....he really does is for me as an orgainst along with Larry Young Which reminds I have a long not heard copy of Soul Connection to go and search out...

The recent rise of out-in-the-open CDR trading...
andybleaden replied to Jim Alfredson's topic in Forums Discussion
Well.........okay, but can we find something else to freak out about while we wait? ← Well in that case can we discuss how somebody can locate a nice recording of Inner Glow by Bobby Hutcherson for me -
I have a 30 gb Creative Jukebox which I have to say has been the most pleasant gadget I have ever bought. Where else but in the shed , on the toilet, in the car, on my bike, on the train,on ...well you get the picture can I listen to a choice of 300+ lps...its great. The reduction in quality depends on the sampling rate in my opinion but its really really great! Best thing, since the last best thing!

I remember seeing alot as a teenager before I had a vcr. I really would like to see more come out if sources can be found especially the live tv shows instead of rehashed tv biogs with all the usual stereotypes/rehashed stories. One that springs to mind was a programme I saw about Art Blakey years ago at around 87-88 in the uk ....it was really interesting and featured him doing some african stuff if my memory serves me right. (which it frequently does not) I picked up a nice one from a friend which many of you will have which featured charles mingus in black and white ( i think dolphy was on it) ...got it on a cd rom as a pressie...not sure if it is from a dvd or not Andy
-
Worth it just to listen to Midnight Sun all over again in my view. I had most of the cds but flogged them for the box set as it was a real treat Do not hesitate BUY BUY er bye!
