  1. Slow down and save money with less fuel costs and no speedy fine. Speaking as someone who got nabbed years ago and now behaves better. I think the better solution recently has been average speed cameras....drops peoples speed down a hell of a lot...imagine one at every motorway exit. that would stop all the speed up and then slow down merchants. If the government want to tax people more for this ..I'm cool about it
  2. I always thought it would would be the type of person who pressed the olives
  3. For me it has to be the Mintons Lps which I had on japanese lp for years before the 2 cd doubletime issue came out which I played and played
  4. Have had these in various formats lp cd etc and always enjoy em as with the one he did with Curtis Fuller..Images of ...on Savoy
  5. Let's hope he wasn't on the pier ...or on the Studland bus ! Wasn't that the nudey beach down there......there must have been a sighting somewhere to the left of the bus and everyone ran to one side with the binoculars
  6. Nice article and interesting thoughts from Dan also about Lee Morgan.....will have to go an listen to Search for a New Land just to remind myself how damn good that was...not that I need to ....I can feel the rhythm already -_-
  7. I will back all of them...none of them are similar to me to the blue notes but that is their beauty ...really different sides all three...if you see em ..get em!
  8. "The first time I tried to sing along with my guitar, everybody in the studio booed" oh bless! least he didn't give
  9. If it carries on this rate we'll get floods again ! Indeed. The area abot thirty miles north of here usually gets about ten feet a year. MG Thats the sea I think! It was running out of my shoes on my bike ride home last night...bit squelchy all round
  10. Wow that first shot you found was awesome I have all Freddie's material which I finally sourced when selling up the lps and getting the CDs LIstening to the story of scoring the BJP and Freddie Roach reminded me of a swap I did of an old Donald Byrd side i traded on Prestige ( Young something or others..original pressing) for two lps ...one of which was a Big John patton (Along came John as well) ...cannot remember what the other was but that was sealed and I think Reuben Wilson...bUT the BJP was a lovely surprise As for Freddie ...I have to say my fave at the mo is the track googa mooga which gets more spins than anything
  11. My biggest surprise was Kenny Burrell's Midnight Blue and handiest record to broaden my interest in terms of new artists ( to me then) was maybe Art Blakey A Night in Tunisia ...always quote this as THE record that clicked with me for jazz...went off then hunting down anything ( and I struggled then with supply) that has any of the artists on that side...Lee Morgan AND Wayne Shorter were the first finds then
  12. I agree...would have been lovely to hear them ease it out a little As for selling out ...I find it hard to comment...maybe it was as you hint when soul jazz was 'selling' whereas it was not before....who am I to tell I do not have any of those records...only have the Prestige numbers ...his odd Blue Note appearance and two of the Cookbook things.
  13. If you don't, wifey will be the first to criticize if there is not enough rain as you well know
  14. I just found an old Blue Note not heard for ages and have been groooooving all week to Sabu Palo Congo
  15. See we have the reverse here...we have pound stores...we never went for that 99 pence con...we gave the extra penny to the EU ! They are still there which makes me wonder..plus the fact the prices are still the same so ...either : a) stuff has got worse quality-wise (if that were possible) b) they were ripping us off all along  c) they are standing the loss out of some larger social consciousness following recent inflation...sounds good but why did they not do that before
  16. bored now off to sort my music for tonight
  17. Thought that was the frogs. (Apologies to all our Francophone friends ) MG Absolutely not. English duelists : fine upstanding fellows, up at the crack of dawn , down a pint of champagne before we do the deed, ten paces , may the best man win, must come back to my place after for a pint of sherry, would you like to marry my sister sort of chaps French duelists : nasty angry sort of republican fellow, quick to fly off the handle, might be sober enough to hurt someone; the grudge will stay with the family and the grandchildren; not even the decency to stand still sort of scoundrels
  18. Grumplestilkskin in one....sounds like a night out in the UK! Of course we English would have ask him for a chance of reply over a duel the next day but you cannot export such manners it seems
