  1. Hi all Long time no presence here but saw an advert for a Grant Green Movie....and and then in less than 24 hours a Lee Morgan Movie I called him Morgan Anyone seen these at all? Assuming these are just playing at Jazz Festivals or have people seen DVDs? Apologies if this has appeared elsewhere...tried to search but was very giddy to think these might be coming
  2. That was brilliant and exactly what I thought about this wonderful discovery. Thanks for sharing. I had a fantastic evening with house alone for a change and this gorgeous set to enjoy. Full volume. Time and the chance to emerse myself back into my life long love of Larry Young's music that began many years ago when I stumbled on the luscious Mosaic set.
  3. I only ever bought the Blue Note sets and largely stuck with them although have been tempted (not indulged) in new releases on CD of the Larry Young and Andrew Hills
  4. Always good to drop back in on the board and hearing about these new hipsters like Lou tearing it up To hear Lou talking about putting Mike Tyson on the door to get people to pay to get out...Brilliant ...and this is from the guy who made records as diverse and wonderful as these I am just glad I had the chance to see him play (albeit on video) and hear so many of his tunes.
  5. Yes this is a regular for me over many many years. Never fails to impress
  6. I used to have the record many many moons ago and got it for pence in the UK...sold for same pence later I am afriad
  7. I have the Mosaic box set which I spent a while hunting down and also the That First Day CD As for recording quality ...could not tell the difference email me for more details andybleadenATgmail.com
  8. Well a bit cheaper is from Amazon Japan I guess which show people selling them from the new/used section here for about 3500 yen Is that about $45-50 and if they have them I am more than sure that others will do that export...better than ebay prices at least My link I am also sure that people on this forum would be able to score cheaper copies direct from japanese sellers like this one which is even cheaper https://www.shop.kotenha.com/ec-classic/pc/package_details/index.php?package_id=3198102654&PHPSESSID=
  9. Does not sound familiar to me Dan
  10. I became more and more frustrated with the reviews which ranged ones like "I never like organ music so listening to this Jimmy Smith record was......" or "The CD was only 47 minutes leaving room for over 23 mins of extra music which although priced at £7.99 is a rip off" which added to yet another feature on Scott Hamilton or whoever helped me to end the subscription pretty quickly
  11. ...as a follow up I rechecked the Brother Rap track from the Blue Juice Cd WOW! I forgot just how damn funky Bobby Hutcherson could be ...you ought to track this down Who says that Blue Note in the 70's was pants....Hot pants maybe thanks for reminding me
  12. Yes Wichita Lineman was issued on Lonesome and Blue Inner City Blues was on Deep Blue Brother Rap issued on Blue Juice Volume 2 Family Affair was issued on Blue Funk ...which were all compilations at least here in the UK but were snapped up by yours truely for some rare BH gems As it happens in checking that out I found a lovely Boby Hutcherson discopgraphy here http://www.musicweb-international.com/jazz/hutcherson/BobbyHutchersonDiscography.pdf with piccies! and alternate sleeves!! and rare bootleg items!!! Both of those (Blow Up and this one) are amazing. Anyone heard Land's "Choma (Burn)", also with Hutcherson? That's probably one of my all-time favorites. I was a late comer to Harold Lands work with Bobby Hutcherson as sideman as opposed to the other way but certainly his Mainstream stuff is brilliant
  13. Undiluted by Wynton Kelly was available on a cardboard sleeve issue from Japan (universal) as far as I remember a while ago (quite a few years ago at least). It will /should not be impossible if not a little pricey to get hold of..even for US or EU poachers Here is a picture of one copy that I found anyway
  14. Yes you can hear a little on emusic Here http://www.emusic.com/album/Etta-Jones-Love-Shout-MP3-Download/10603952.html nice find
  15. these sexy pills work a long time with me..very nice
  16. I have both Sleeves of Desire which I got for not too much of ebay a few years ago and the recent hardback. Both of which were great. I am looking forward to this one as well and will stick in an order no doubt
  17. It is excellent. I love Speigel im Speigel and yes I like the different recordings of the same tune
  18. Never mind all these protest about socialised health care and all that. I am starting a micro blog/twitter thing to get hundreds of thousands of US citizens to protest outside this mans house til it appears on dvd starting right NOW! Shame really though ...we have lost a great deal of beautiful music over the years from the TV..best hang on better to what we got.
  19. Hey maybe they had them both just to really whet the appetite! Would be lovely to see any /all of this.
  20. Yippee....More John Patton!!!! The internet still comes up with goodies...check this out from Peter Fallico's site: John Patton playing with George Braith 1997! http://www.viddler.com/explore/doodlinlounge/videos/9/ He has got some brilliant Hammond footage Apologies if seen before but I was so pleased I did a search ( not easy ) on the forums and thought it deserved a heads up More vids here: http://www.viddler.com/explore/doodlinlounge/
  21. The one that plays over and over for the last few weeks is Horace Silver - Song for my Father
  22. As far as railway is concerned, this must be a typically british obsession. My father worked for the Luxembourg railways, where he was responsible for equipment. Several times per year, he received visits from members of british railway fan clubs, who requested to see specific locomotives which were missing from their collection of pictures. They wanted to take pictures of each individual locomotive, although many of them were identical except for the serial number. If one locomotive was stationed in another part of the country, they would take a 2 hour trip just to get a picture. They weren't interesting in any sightseeing, even railway-related. The only thing that counted was to travel to complete their collection of pictures. I was once an anorak too, in the late 80's, when I discovered jazz mainly through the ECM label, and I wanted to have a discography of all ECM albums. Instead of simply requesting a list from the label, I went thought the jazz section in record shops and wrote down the 1xxx numbers and titles of all ECM albums I could find. With the internet, such obsessions can now be pursued in a much more discrete way ... That is exactly how I found out about ECM and Blue Note releases. I could not get any other info than from records or maybe info from jazz journal ...funny now I look back on it ...nearly got chucked out once of a record shop near Victoria Station in Manchester UK for doing just that...as I wanted to find out how many organists there were on Blue Note...and armed with a pen and pencil I did just that..and then found these other records called prestige...then the owner got a little hissy with me and so I left
  23. Well I have not been doing anything jazz wize at all for years. Have not bought anything since they released some Rare grooves of the Three Sounds last year/maybe the year before In all honesty I have also been not even doing much on here either. I guess I have stuck to my plan to get back to my favourites and start enjoying them all over again. Most of my listening now is of my just about fully ripped Blue Note cd collection ( which I still keep to listen to when I want) via my Mp3 player on constant random play .....it has bought me much more pleasure than I anticipated and has reminded me of why I fell in love with Blue Note records. I have not been looking in sales/checking on ebay or anything as I think for now at least I have what I want. Maybe that will change although my next plan is to start to repeat what I have done with my Blue Notes to all my other jazz and ECM collection...will need more players though! However I have had this before but refound my interest as it was way back when I decided to flog my LPs and found that many of them were now being released in Japan on CD. My overall perspective is that my collection is something I spent time and effort on creating and building and I want to actually listen to it and enjoy it too.
  24. Nah I would stick with Firefox...3.5 is due out later on and organizing my bookmarks has never been easier for me. I have to use internet explorer at work sometimes and it is like having a filing cabinet all over again
