Oh man, have I been there before! The only advice I can offer is the advice that's hardest to take: you have got to build that 'cushion'. No matter how hard it is, you simply have to put aside a set amount each payday for savings until you DO have a cushion, even if it does mean the ramen route, no CDs, etc. If you don't have an emergency fund, you just aren't in control of your own life. Although if I'm totally honest with myself, the best economic move I ever made was finding a woman with better 'money sense' than I have...

You're right, of course, Rooster. A huge influx of refugees would be extremely disruptive; I know we were at several places (I wonder if Harlem.org or whatever it was ever wondered what the hell happened...). On the other hand, if some of JCs gang started slowly drifting in, I sure wouldn't mind.

Sadly, Seattle is a bit of a theme park. I miss the grit in a big way. Not one person has told me to shut the fuck up since I've moved out here! I'll make you a deal: Drive about 87 mi N to Bellingham, and I'll be glad to tell you to go f**k yourself! ( Former LA, Dallas, and NYC guy GLAD to be in the cool green Pacific Northwest! ) BTW: Seattle may seem a bit of a theeme park to youse, but there are some M********R jazz players up here!! Whoa. I lived in Bellingham waaaaay back when before I started first grade. Wow, that was back in....uh...never the hell you mind when that was, damn it!
