Well, actually, that's the whole point to sniping. With a properly executed snipe, not only do you not have time for a second bid, no one else has time to respond if your snipe is successful. The key to a successful snipe is this: you must calculate your true maximum bid. If you were actually willing to bid more, and didn't, then you shouldn't have been sniping. If you bid your true maximum bid, and someone else bids more, you should be confident that they overpaid. As the snipers maxim goes: Bid once. Bid your max. And bid at the last possible second.

I have one rule: bid only once on an item. I'll admit, I've broken my own rule a few times, but I usually regret it. Either bid early whatever your top price is and forget it, or bid late, in the last few seconds. Unlike Jim, I have no problem with sniping, and it's my preferred method if I really want something. It sounds underhanded if you're only used to the typical "going, going, gone" auctions, but eBay is a timed auction, and that's an entirely different beast. Think of it as a "sealed bid" auction, and get your bid in at the deadline. Of course, none of this guarantees a win. There is a way to pretty much guarantee a win, but only an idiot would use it: bid $10,000 on any CD you want, and you're probably pretty safe. Of course, if some other fanatic tries it as well and bids $9,000, you're going to have a very small, very expensive music library... By the way, if you're going to go with sniping, I do recommend a sniping service. Unless you enjoy sitting at your computer on eBay at all hours of the day. And Jim, a true sniper would laugh at calling a bid with 15 seconds to go a "snipe". If it ain't under 10, it doesn't count. My best, with manual sniping is one second. And I have dial-up.

Happy birthday, dude. Now that you've suckered us into this place, where are you???

Pardon my selfishness, but as long as my posts don't come up as being written by that idiot Jazzmoose, I really don't care.

Lest there be any misunderstanding of comments I have made in other threads concerning this box, although mine will be available in the future, arrangements will have to be made with my widow to be...

Hey, what the hell... The main thing making it to the player these days seems to be Ornette Coleman's Beauty is a Rare Thing. It took me so long to get into it, it seems like I'm trying to make up for lost time! Grachan Moncur and Roscoe Mitchell are strong on my radar at the moment as well. The hard bop monkey seems to be in a serious swoon right now, but I'm sure it'll never go away completely. The problem is that I'm being pulled in several directions: swing, dixieland, modern big band...the list goes on. Looks like Coleman is doing serious damage to all comers, though.

You might want to try in the "Offering and Looking for" forum; your post might be getting overlooked here... -

Did you guys hear something? -
Really? Do you have suspicions that this "Tooth Fairy" thing might not be on the up-and-up as well?

And I've got to go to the drug store and pick up my wife's perscriptions like I promised, or there will be no mystery about my fate... -

Well, I hope I don't sound equally smartassed with my answer, because this is really how I think. Or rather, truly how I think. "Truth" is a word to describe the same concept that you used for the word "facts". You wouldn't call something a "fact" unless you believed it to be "true". Yes? No? Yes, a fact is true, and can be proven to be so. How can religion be used to discover these facts? This seems to be like doing archeaology by reading books rather than getting out there and digging. I just don't see how it can accomplish anything. And in response to Ray: Hercules cheats. -

I mean, I understand searching for facts, but "truth"? -

Not trying to be a smart ass here (although the way this thread started, it's sure going to sound like it!) but what is truth? -

As is religion itself in my book, but that's another story... -

Then God is a complete asshole. He sets up his plan so that Judas betrays Jesus, and then blames Judas for playing his part? -
I hate threads like these. You people make it sound like this is the Holy Grail or something. But I'm not falling for it this time. No! Stop! What the hell? What's my credit card doing out? Email from CDUniverse confiriming....you bastards!

You're not supposed to look that closely, Chrome. Remember the "preordained" bit preceeded the more modern Western outlook of Free Will and Individuality by quite a few centuries. -
Just don't forget that "pure muscle", PhillyQ! It's no problem to go from 195 to 245 in your thirties, believe me!

So we're getting into that, eh? I know most here have already seen my main man Moose, AKA Mooster, AKA Moo', AKA the food pit...

That just doesn't make sense. Sorry, but there is no similarity whatsoever between buying used and burning copies. Buying used removes a legitimate copy of the CD from the marketplace, burning a copy does not. As I said in my previously, if the original buyer feels that the recording just didn't click, I see no reason for them not to recoup some of their losses, and let the next person give it a shot. This is hardly the same thing as keeping the disc, and stealing copies for friends. Not to be insulting, but this comparison is just plain silly...
