  1. Wow; that's weird. At least to me! I'm so used to the British versions (got them in '75) by now that hearing the U.S. versions again would annoy me as much as the British ones annoy you. But what the heck, surely with the Beatles, there's room for both versions, right?
  2. You're right, it wasn't what I thought. But it did get my attention!
  3. Uh...okay; seeing as the show was in the seventies, you have a very good point there!
  4. Yeah, I saw the thread for Jack over at Jazzcorner last night, and really had some movie memories come flooding back. Elam was one of my favorite actors when I was a kid; he was just one of those weird personalities that attracts kids and stray dogs, I guess. Loved him as the comedy relief in westerns...and "Support Your Local Gunfighter" will always be a favorite of mine!
  5. Hey, it's always sad when someone goes, but.... Well, all I'll say is that you guys have better memories than I do.
  6. Okay, guys....Catesta's "VERY DISTURBING!!!!" title is no longer a joke- it's an accurate description!!
  7. Ouch! I agree Ghost, that sucks. I haven't seen the revised Star Wars movies, so I didn't know. I didn't notice any story line revisions in the first Indy movie...
  8. I grabbed this Tuesday morning off the cart before they got it on the shelves (hey; I don't have to wait until the door open...it's every man for himself on release day!), but have only watched Raiders so far. I sold my video tapes close to ten years ago during my personal "economic upheaval", so it's been a long time. I don't have a home theater system, but just stereo speakers, but the sound was different. I could hear, for instance, the discussion among the students when they were leaving Indy's classroom much more clearly. I remember also seeing an added scene, but I'll be damned if I can remember what it was. Stefan, I'll try to watch Doom today as I'm off (and the heart scene will be too intense for the wife anyway; she's such a wuss with this stuff. Hates snakes, too...) and see what I see. I know this: the scene you mention needed fixing. I hope they fixed the plane crash as well...
  9. Well, here's what we did: pulled the plug. (Actually, I did it, before we got together; she's never had cable.) Reception problems are a thing of the past. I spend maybe six hours a week in front of the tube. I highly recommend it. Of course, now you know why my post count is so high; this is my idiot box!
  10. I really doubt it. Though I certainly don't care for any price increase...
  11. I can just see Buck Dharma chasing after James T. Cat, screaming "GET THAT FUCKING COWBELL OUT OF HERE!!!!!!!!!" I want the video!
  12. An eight day grace period? My, how generous...
  13. Alright; grab the party hats!
  14. Look, there's a reason I prefer e. e. cummings to T.S. Elliot, okay?
  15. I wish the whole "email" thing would go away. Hell, I can check for new messages often enough to not have the email warning. What really gets me is the emailed notice for "subscribe to this thread" that someone is using and jacking up the board with today! Drop it people; I can't post without getting a mail failure! Just come to the board and see if there's anything new!
  16. Bev sure knows how to cut to the chase on these discussions, doesn't he?
  17. Man, I thought I came up with some weird shit...
  18. I'll just toss in another vote for this idea. Although certainly more stuff from Pacific Jazz wouldn't hurt...
  19. It's alright, AB; we're here to help you...
  20. That's another problem, of course, most people don't want music that you actually have to listen to. Most people really don't want to listen to music, they just want background noise. Or they're so conditioned by movies and television that they feel their life needs a soundtrack...
  21. Well, if you reverse the order of these two paragraphs, and change the "I like" to "They don't like", I think you'll have a pretty good handle on what's going on. My wife can be summed up by the earlier comments in the thread by Alexander: jazz makes her nervous. She doesn't like that, she wants music that calms her. I prefer music that excites me, and we're always going to have that gap. When she puts on music, it's almost a form of meditation. It's no surprise to me that the jazz CD of mine that she likes the most (even bought her own copy of it!) was Getz/Gilberto. And that her favorite of my rock LPs is Eno's Evening Star. Both of those (particularly the Eno) sound exciting and "unnerving" to me, but I can understand her approach. (Aside to Alexander: strangely enough, she does like Evans!)
  22. Man, I'd have to sell my soul to the devil to afford this one... Robert Johnson
