Pretty Pathetic, Considering Its From Blue Note
Jazzmoose replied to Dan Gould's topic in Miscellaneous Music
JazzRules, he means if you want to talk politics, take it to the political forum. We don't piss in the swimming pool here; there's a seperate room for that. -
Okay, I just got around to giving this a careful first listen today. My reaction? Next time anyone feels like starting one of those "woe is us, all the jazz giants are dying off, is anyone left?", stick this in your player and wake up to the fact that not all great jazz is fifty years old! Damn, this sucker SMOKES!!!! Ahem. Excuse me. What I meant to say is "I recommend this disc quite highly. It is quite competent."

Nah, only twenty-nine. The other one's mine, looking for another Three Sounds disc...

Nothing new here; I just got tired of seeing "Ban Greg" on the main menu...

I'm not sure I really want to access AAJ all that much anymore. Is it just me, or is it turning into the "kiddie jazz board"? Lately whenever I go there my first thought is "hasn't the new school year started yet?" Maybe I'm just getting old and grumpy. In my day...darn kids...bitch...moan...

Call me a spoilsport, but after reading this, I think this guy's a goofball. He's not a collector, he's an accumulator. I have never in my life met a collector of anything who would go along with this statement. But then I don't get out much anymore....

Berigan, you're not actually listening to these sets are you? Don't you know that you're supposed to immediately encase each on in half inch thick mylar cases and replace the air with nitrogen to ensure proper storage conditions? These are collectables, not records or CDs!

Lush Life is my favorite, but off the top of my head, I can't think of one that I'd say "don't get"...

Mulligan, Patton, Chambers
Jazzmoose replied to Free For All's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
I have simply GOT to stop hanging with you people! As if I haven't spent enough on music over the last two months, now you've got me, Mr. "Is it last chance yet, or just getting low?" preordering an unreleased set. This has simply got to stop! I'm holding a grudge against all of you until the Mulligan set arrives. Then all will be forgiven... -
If the Rivers BIN was $100, okay, but if it was $50 and the bozo bid $40, I'm pissed... Well, maybe "disappointed" would be a better word.

Well, part of me wants to thank DrJ for adding the names Wilen, Hayes, Namyslowski, Ponomarev and especially Gulgowski to my list of artists to explore. The other part of me wants to go back and edit my comments on the first thread. How embarrassing! Please tell me that this is some other Kenny Clarke on track 9!!
-
You know, that sums up my feelings, so I was really suprised that I found this disc so enjoyable. My original interest in the disc was sort of a cross between curiosity and a desire to "help the host". Then I listened to the darn thing. Hah! I thought I was doing Jim, Joe and Randy a favor, and here it turns out that I got the best of the deal!

Now that some cheap *$#@! has bid on the Sam Rivers that I would have gladly bought at a decent "Buy it Now" price in a heartbeat, does anyone remember what the Buy it Now price was so I can feel even worse?

You're one of them now. I never want to see you again.

Giant asteroid could hit Earth in 2014
Jazzmoose replied to Rooster_Ties's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
ROTFLMFAO Glad that SOMEBODY got it. Oh, we got it; we're just trying to track you down to uh.."thank" you in person for reminding us of that damned song! -
I have the Complete Recordings, and I'd recommend the single disc as well. Alternate takes aren't that interesting to me, unless Bird is involved...
-
Dan- I did NOT send you a PM. That must have been my cat. But, as long as he's interested...

Universal Music to Cut CD Prices to Under $13
Jazzmoose replied to Claude's topic in Miscellaneous Music
Being a latecomer to jazz myself, what you two are saying makes a lot of sense. When I made the decision to seriously explore jazz about five years ago, I started with the classic jazz recordings, and until the last couple of years, new jazz just didn't show up on my shelves. While most people new to rock, pop, or hiphop start with the current artists and work their way back if they become "hardcore fans", with jazz it seems to flow in the opposite direction for many, particularly the older, CD buying segment of music fans. I also notice that now that I'm exploring new jazz, labels other than Blue Note, OJC, Columbia, etc. are starting to show up on my shelves. The buyer who just wants a representative collection of jazz isn't going to pursue current jazz, and won't feel any need to bother with these labels. At that point, they stop buying anyway, so the big labels lose nothing. -
My thought exactly!

Michael Bolton sings, and Kenny G plays the music of Gershwin as performed by Enja on piano. <shudder> I just gave myself heart attack with that one. What??? They left out Tesh??? I'm pissed!

Very nice collection of jazz LP's on ebay
Jazzmoose replied to wolff's topic in Offering and Looking For...
His ratio of negatives to positives isn't that bad at all. The most recent negatives (three from one person, who has a LOT of negatives, percentage-wise) seem to be in retaliation for negatives he left, a chance all sellers take when they leave 'em. The others are too far back for me to worry about for a seller with a 99.6% positive ratins. Seems okay to me. -
Strangely enough, this one I understood. Go figure...

Maybe I'm suffering from a brain fart or something, but I have no idea what the question is...

You know, the tough part about you guys using album covers for avatars is fighting the uh..."inner urge" to get up and change the music all the time...
