Personally, I think that anyone on the list other than Unitas, Graham and Montana are simply space fillers. I went with Unitas only because I'm old, but not that old... Mnytime, Csonka is in the Hall of Fame, isn't he?

Nothing substantial here; I just finished listening to this disc for the first time, and I just have to recommend it to anyone who hasn't heard it. But then everyone else here probably has. Oh, well; back to the real threads, guys...

I'm old enough to know that ya just gotta go with James Brown. Hell, if he'd stuck around until he was too old to play any more like some of these guys, they'd still be chasing his record, which, remember, was set in the days of ten games a season (assuming my memory is correct, always a shaky plan...). You've got that right! Before I played, I didn't know it was even possible for someone to bite you with a helmet on. Must have been one of those glamor boys with the wussy helmets...

This is probably going to sound really weird, but I would prefer watching boxing to the NFL. At least with boxing, if there's going to be a cheap shot, you know it's going to be from the guy standing in front of you. (Well, unless Riddick Bowe is in your corner... )

Praise be to ye, because that sounds wrong. It's a frequently-used allusion in headlines for stories about the Potter phenomenon... in fact, I came across two today after I posted. As long as it's the version sung by Bugs Bunny, I see nothing wrong with it...

My "no" vote is just the old libertarian strain emerging again. I can't say anything really good about boxing, although I personally prefer my memories of participating (back in my youth) more than my spectator memories. Boxing itself doesn't bother me, it's the fans that are scary.

As far as the hysteria, I don't either, although I think they're better books than my childhood faves like The Happy Hollisters, The Hardy Boys and Tom Swift. They definitely take advantage of the "I'm different" feelings from childhood. I got hooked a few books ago when I decided to see what all the fuss was about, and now can't help reading each before passing them on to the grandkids.

Rene Marie. I heard a few tunes by her on KCSM over the past couple of months and was really impressed, so I picked up Vertigo, mainly because it had her Dixie/Strange Fruit performance. I can't get the darned thing out of the CD player; it's just awesome!
