As the preceding and subsequent titles are all albums originally released on Time Records, I strongly suspect this is Bennie Green's only Time LP, on which there was a Sonny named Clark. I don't know of any Bennie Green session with Sonny Rollins. I think you're right.

That "We Have All the Time In the World" thing for On Her Majesty's Secret Service? God, I HOPE that wasn't his last studio recording. That would be sad. The liner notes to the original soundtrack (reissued on disc) claim that this was indeed Pops' last recording in the studio. I listened to that track last night. It is kind of sad, but there's also something eerily attractive about it. Oh that Robert Barry!

I just realized ... maybe these guys weren't recorded using microphones at all. I told you I was a novice!

When Charley Patton or Blind Lemon Jefferson or (fill in name of favorite early blues artist) first recorded, what kind of microphone(s) were used at the time? And were these artists simply recorded in offices? If anyone here could talk about this to a novice (myself), or point to a book that provides information along these lines, I'd be much appreciative. Thanks!

I'm guessing something like $45.99. I've had the music for a long time now. Must resist Japanese packaging fetishism! (At that price, it's actually not too hard to resist.) Those of you who receive Hiroshi Tanno's e-mails on Japanese reissues and releases already know this, but Flanagan's Overseas sessions are being reissued once again — this time with the most deluxe treatment I've ever seen from the Japanese market: not one, but three mini-LP covers to accompany the CD. The reason for three? To be faithful to the original release of these recordings as EPs on the Swedish Metronome label, DIW is manufacturing three separate jackets. Now, if they really wanted to be faithful, they could have reissued the music on three 3" CDs! The original covers are indeed classy: The price tag is hefty — over 3900¥. If someone here decides to splurge, please tells us how all of this packaged! (Um, and you can tell us about the music too. It's one of my favorite Flanagan dates.)

Instead of starting a new thread, any suggestions for a television to go with a new DVD player? Any suggestions are welcome, but my actual budget is limited. I can probably afford a DVD player now, and will have to save for a new television. I've had a 13" RCA for over fifteen years now.

Thanks for the recommendations so far! The Oppo's seem fairly priced (and upconvert as well), and I didn't know that Blu-Ray machines could play DVD's. Do all of them?

Except for the title track, I think this is actually a really good album. The first three tunes — . Maybe it's because my saxophone teacher back in the 80's was into this album, but I've always thought this was a solid (not "best") effort for the 70's. Liebman in particular is having a ball. Any love for this one? The track 'Round Town is great fun.

This may have come up before, but if not — I was wondering if you guys might have some recommendations for a single tray DVD player. I'm not looking for the home theater experience (surround sound, etc.), but rather a reliable player to watch some of the Jazz Icons DVDs. Maybe all DVD players are roughly the same these days, but I'm guessing not. Anyway, I appreciate any recs!

Does anyone here have the Jean-Claude Fohrenbach 2-disc Jazz in Paris set? I'm listening to it right now. Disc 2 has some really interesting use of overdubbed tenors — as well as tenor keys clicking to sound like a percussion ensemble.

Has Sam Most's Debut album been reissued in full? I'm guessing Lonely Hill would be the first to do it.

Wasn't "Leo" reissued without overdubbing as part of the CD Interstellar Space? I like the overdubs, by the way.
