COVID-19 III: No Politics For Thee
OliverM replied to ghost of miles's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Pim, good luck with the lockdown. Vaccination, including boosters still seems like the best that can be done to prevent from serious illness. The policy evolution you mention is the same that's happening in France, and there are already 11 mandatory vaccines here, so I find it perfectly ok. -
Rode my bicycle to get the CD at the nearest store today after work and listening to it tonight. Excellent release and a very exciting one.

That was gone too fast for me, I would really like finding a copy in Europe, or at least the digital version if it gets added on Bandcamp.
-
RIP. Read the chapter on Fuller in Mark Stryker's Jazz from Detroit and listened to the Mosaic and to Blue Train in recollection.

Another Mosaic Armstrong to come out this August.
OliverM replied to Hardbopjazz's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Placed an order for this box set. I don't have this material and even though it's an expensive way of acquiring it, I'm sure it's really well presented and sounds great here. But hopefully there is also a future for other types of Mosaic sets too, beyond the historic core releases (that are excellent). -
For Giuffre's 100th birthday, France musique is broadcasting a 1991 Giuffre-Bley-Swallow concert at Maison de la radio. It has solos from each musician to begin with. Two shows, 25th and 26 (upcoming). https://www.francemusique.fr/emissions/les-legendes-du-jazz

Charlie Parker on CD - Where to go from here?
OliverM replied to colinmce's topic in Recommendations
Interesting recommendations which I was also inspired by. Just purchased one of those Ember Birdland longboxes locally at a reasonable price. -
This is now available from Jazzmessengers, Barcelona. Order placed.

Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978), an excellent remake of Don Siegel's 1956 film starring Donald Sutherland. Got to this through the Denny Zeitlin connection after having listened to the very interesting interview with Ben Sidran. The soundtrack of the movie is really special.

New Dark Tree records release of 1985 Roberto Miranda concert
OliverM replied to felser's topic in New Releases
This looks great -
The Earl Hines and the Julius Eastman come to mind.

This is crazy (and disappointing to say the least)!
-
Thanks for presenting these records, just bought two of them.
-
Completely agree. Lots of listening to the BS/SN box lately as well as to Dogon A.D., in anticipation of the new box set which doesn't seem to be very available in Europe yet.

I hope that they will get better. They have always been very friendly, enthusiastic and professional and brought about many musical surprises.

This is excellent!

Importing/exporting UK/Europe after Brexit
OliverM replied to David Ayers's topic in Miscellaneous Music
If I understood well, part of the recent deal was no duties within Europe but deliveries will be possibly slowed down by border controls which have already begun. -
Sad! I will be looking out for obituaries in the French Press tomorrow (will be getting Libé). Loved his playing. I would be very interested in reading more about his path. Very lucky to have seen him twice in Paris, once with the Arkestra and another time, with Rasul Siddik, Harry Swift and William Hooker. Both memorable moments! Good article and playlist by Pierre Crépon on The Wire, Steve Lacy is to be trusted on Few: https://www.thewire.co.uk/audio/tracks/wire-playlist-from-cleveland-to-paris-the-many-sides-of-bobby-few

I will not be able to listen to it until next month at the least, the CD player's lens has to be changed...

This forum is indeed a great resource. Approximately what year did the Blue Note Bulletin Board close? I think I must have joined Organissimo after having read through the Penguin guide (8th edition) and explored some other websites like the European Free Improvisation home and the early years of the Free jazz blog.

35, and glad there are so many people with such interesting experiences here (how is having seen Albert Ayler live for instance as I have noted with admiration and envy!). On the other hand, I wish the gender skew wasn't so important (but not the topic).

Sonny Rollins "Rollins In Holland: 1967 Studio And Live Recordings"
OliverM replied to ghost of miles's topic in New Releases
I've had the CD for a week or so, unfortunately CD player is just out of order right now and will have to find another way to listen to it. The above discussion is surprising considering all the talk that accompanies every Resonance release. King Ubu should have been editorial director for this release. Is this bootleg to be found anywhere?
