  1. A classic that I haven’t listened to in years. Now listening to Disc 1:
  2. I’m hoping against hope it’s just a trial balloon.
  3. Baseball, in its infinite wisdom , is thinking of a new playoff format that must have been designed in Romper Room: MLB weighing major changes to postseason, including growing number of teams to 14 “MLB is considering a move in which each league would have three division winners and four wild-card teams making the postseason starting in 2022, sources said. The best team in the league would receive a bye into the division series. The two remaining division winners and the wild-card team with the best record of the four would each host all games of a best-of-three series in the opening round.“ After the regular season ends, “The division winner with the second-best record would select its wild-card opponent from the three wild-card winners not hosting a series. The division winner with the worst record would then choose its opponent from the remaining two wild-card teams. The final matchup would pit the wild-card winner with the best record against the wild-card team not yet chosen. All of the selections, sources said, would be unveiled live on television the Sunday night of the final regular-season games.”
  4. You might find this interesting, 9 hi-fi tricks you might not believe affect sound quality (but they do) Here’s a discussion from the Hoffman forum about the article, https://forums.stevehoffman.tv/threads/sound-quality-how-far-do-yo-go.923901/#post-23055774
  5. They are taking bids to that effect. As a result, the consideration is supposed to be higher. I think they realized that attaching conditions as they did with Cohen would result in no buyers or lower purchase price. The motivating factor to sell comes from the Wilpon family, not Fred and certainly not Jeff. The family doesn’t trust Jeff to run the franchise and Saul Katz wants a sale, and Katz, who is Wilpon’s brother in law, owns a significant share of the Mets (perhaps a majority).
  6. Indeed and it was only $1! Now playing:
  7. I hope you’re not suggesting that Jimmy Cobb is somebody you’ve never heard of.
  8. A good day at the estate sales this weekend. I picked up the following CDs: Aretha Franklin - I Never Loved A Man The Way I Loved You The Stax Story Rolling Stones - 40 Licks
  9. Michael Cuscuna mentioned the fundraiser in the Jazz Gazette that just came out so based on his support I'd feel comfortable making a contribution: "Jimmy Cobb ranks as one of the greatest drummers in jazz. Tony Williams named him as his prime influence. He worked with Dinah Washington, Cannonball Adderley, Miles Davis, Wynton Kelly and Wes Montgomery to name but a few. He was both innovative and unerringly tasteful; that rare distinction belongs to a very few, like Grady Tate. Now at 91, health issues threaten Jimmy Cobb’s ability to play. This fund for his medical expenses is a chance for everyone to say thanks with whatever donation that they can afford. -Michael Cuscuna"
  10. I had the same thoughts or questions that you did but after deciding not to get it and cancelling my order I purchased the set because I decided that I might want it at one point and didn’t want to be shut out from purchasing the set in case I changed my mind.
  11. Mildly amusing but not worth the price of the ticket. The Bastard’s Fig Tree. Takes place during during the Spanish Civil War. Recommended. It’s on Starz on Demand.
  12. Excellent book. I love all of Hochschild’s books. I liked it. It came out after the Spy Who Came in From the Cold and in his intro to the newest edition, LeCarte notes that professionals thought it ringed true to life, although the book wasn’t well received by critics at the time. It shows a faded and bumbling agency trying to recover past glory.
  13. I think I saw where their Mozart sold for about $2500 or so.
  14. Mets deal with Cohen is off but they’ve put themselves up for auction by retaining a well known sales consultant, Allen & Company.
  15. FWIW, almost of their releases have sold out so there is a market. I’m guessing these are for audiophiles. For example, the John Lee Hooker one sells for £500.
  16. Plain madness.
  17. This company is reissuing on lp in mono Way Out West for £300. Only 300 being made. No, it’s not April 1 yet Way Out West
  18. He was probably one of my favorites. Besides the movies mentioned above, the Bad and the Beautiful, Lonely Are the Brave and Last Train from Boot Hill are great ones and some of my favorites.

    Jazz Images Label

Thanks. I would not purchase it either. I wonder if they have the right to use the photos or if those photos are also in the public domain.
  20. Does anyone know anything about this label, other than it’s a Spanish label. I see Jazz Messengers advertising them a lot and they use William Claxton images. They are now using Francis Wolff images. Are they copying music that’s in the public domain or do they have access to the tapes?
