Excellent! You might enjoy this. We Are All Smiley’s People

Apparently, they tried to retrade (renegotiating a point in the late stages of a deal that you’ve given up on earlier). That’s a no no and frowned upon. There was nothing that would tick me off more than people trying to retrade. Am I shocked the Wilpons would do that? No.

Homer Plessy (right image), of Plessy vs. Ferguson fame. See Overlooked No More: Homer Plessy, Who Sat on a Train and Stood Up for Civil Rights

It’s a story about an important Falange prisoner in Barcelona who in the final days of the War is to be executed, he runs away, a Republican soldier spares his life and he manages to survive in the forest, with the aid of a few “forest friends,” three Republican soldiers who have deserted. I’m about halfway through the book.

Soldiers of Salamis, a novel of the Spanish Civil War, by Javier Cercas. It reads like non fiction but is actually fiction.

Mobley Mosaic, Disc 1.

My feeling is that everything shows up eventually.

Maybe she meant “Sonny, I’ll pass on that.” You should have asked her if she liked (Big) Bird

I’ve read conflicting reviews on Culture Factory, enough so that I’ve decided to pass on them.

What rock music are you listening to? Non-Jazz, Non-Classical.

Art Blakey must be up there.

I passed by a Goodwill store the other day and on a whim I stopped and found Brasil 66 Fool on the Hill. At an estate sale, I found these yesterday (plus some rock lps): John Coltrane The Gentle Side of John Coltrane Smithsonian Collection of Classic Jazz (box set of 6 LPs)

Although I live in NJ, I haven’t listened to the station that much lately (nor, should I add, WKCR). It’s a shame what’s going on and hopefully it can be addressed.

Scott Muni was unique.

For the uninitiated, the 25th Anniversary Mods refers to tubes, right? Any chance you could post a photo of your setup. I would be very interested in seeing it.
-
As I recall, you have a tube system, right?

Harry Harrison, ‘Good Guy’ Radio D.J., Is Dead at 89 If you grew up in the 60s in the NY metro area, he, along with Dan Ingram, Ron Lundy and Cousin Brucie were part of your daily life. It’s as if that part of your life is now gone. Only Cousin Brucie is left.

I just read the review in the Times. It appears the only thing the two have in common is the name of the movie, Montfermeil, where some of the book took place and the emphasis on the neglected parts of society, which I assume is why the title was chosen.

Rubbish music? Your opinion, for what it’s worth, which is not much at all. You don’t want to hear it? Fine don’t listen. Who’s forcing you to? True, they probably are not exemplary persons but aren’t there people in all fields of music (not to mention other professions) who we wouldn’t like but still love what they produce.

Now that issue has been resolved, he may be traded. Clubs didn’t want to put offers on the table until the grievance was resolved.

I have no desire to see a movie like that, just as I found a modern version of Great Expectations repellent. I enjoy watching movies based on books as the author intended, not something to suit modern sensibilities.
-
But I’m sure there are some that do.
