I have avoided reading any books on current politics. It pervades our life as it is and I don't want to spend my spare time reading about it. That is my view anyway.

I agree completely. As soon as I get home, I will make a donation.

Update. It’s all legit. Tweet from Jazz Times: Update: The news about #KennyBurrell is in fact true, and the GoFundMe page is legitimate. An official announcement from the Jazz Foundation of America is on the way, and we'll post it on our website as soon as we get it.

Chris Albertson, R.I.P.
Brad replied to Stereojack's topic in Jazz In Print - Periodicals, Books, Newspapers, etc...
The tendency when a person dies is to remember them fondly and exalt their accomplishments but sometimes in the process we diminish or ignore the lesser qualities or negative aspects of their personality. It presents a less than balanced view of a person. For example, when Lincoln, a process of deification occurred and those who had criticized him now lauded him to a fault and so forth. Let's not do the same with Chris Albertson. Although he contributed mightily to the world of jazz and he probably knew more about jazz in one finger than most of us know in our whole body, some of his behavior on this Forum was, in my opinion, far from exemplary, such as in the political form where he far exceeded the norms of being "crusty." Other examples included his attacks on Phil Schaap (who himself has warts). Larry Kart noted in the Where is Phil Schaap thread "re: Chris Albertson, while I respect what he did, his judgements are... "stern" is a generous way of putting it. And where did Chris come from again?" The full thread is below. I think we do a disservice to any person, not just Chris Albertson, if we don't remember them in a balanced way. -
Here is Jazz Times' tweet: "We now have reason to doubt the legitimacy of that supposed GoFundMe page for Kenny Burrell we posted about earlier today. If you've been thinking of contributing, please hold off until we can get the full story."

Not to be completely suspicious but can’t anyone post a GoFundMe appeal or does the identity have to be authenticated?

It will also be an all England final in the Europa League: Arsenal v Chelsea. -

Sorry, not the person I’d want to see in concert. Don’t need to see a twerker.

Miley Cyrus? What a joke.

Are there any box bargains currently available?
Brad replied to GA Russell's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
This seems like a good price, $30 for Complete Monk Quartet on Columbia, https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007Y2W4BA?ref=em_1p_1_ti&ref_=pe_3730140_409166770 -
Thanks for the corrections Steve and Kevin.

I believe — but I’m no expert — that copyright protection in the EU for sound recordings lasts 50 years. If so, unless there is an exception, I don’t believe the Beatles’ songs pre 1969 are protected. I’m happy to be corrected if I’m wrong on this.

If he’s fit, how can you not play him. There is a similar debate going on with the Yankees in baseball. They have had a lot of injuries to their stars and their secondary players have played very well. Some fans want to keep it that way when the stars are fit but that’s just not logical. -
Funny, but isn't that the truth!

37 CDs seems like overkill unless you're a completist, which I'm not, at least not for this concert and at that price. However, 10 CDs sounds palatable although that probably won't be cheap either. Figure a minimum of $200.

I didn't think they had it in them. Funny how the two finalists steeped up when they were missing their stars. When that happens, it seems as if the rest of the team works harder than just relying on their star to win it for them. -

Great, an all England final. -
In light of the popularity of this topic, I thought I’d post this article. Demystifying the Public Domain: A Guide to Copyright Duration

I’d like to see Ajax win today and I think they will; Spurs have not played well lately. Moreover, if Spurs prevail, Liverpool will surely win and that is the last thing I’d want to see. -
