Classic. Regarding the Zombies, their sound was different and as an “older” listener they were important, especially for the reasons Jim mentioned. For some who say how could you pick them over Tull or whatever person/group you want to mention, how about considering them in their own right?

The Simple Matter Of Conviction is a very nice session. Not familiar with this one. Will have to seek it out.

I’d be surprised if their agents didn’t ask for them to be grossed up if they sign in a high tax state.

From the museum site, here are the criteria for induction: "Artists—a group encompassing performers, composers and/or musicians—become eligible for induction 25 years after the release of their first commercial recording. Besides demonstrating unquestionable musical excellence and talent, inductees will have had a significant impact on the development, evolution and preservation of rock & roll." I don't know if you can argue that any of this year's inductees had a "significant impact" but I can see an argument being made for the Zombies, Def Leppard and Radiohead. Janet Jackson, that I don't get.

How is the Dameron book? Years ago, there was one that was very hard to find and I never did find it; can’t remember the name of the author. The Jazz Times review of the Combs book wasn’t too laudatory on the biographical details but had praise on the musical analysis of his work, which the reviewer said might be too complicated for non musicians to understand.

Joe Kelly to Dodgers. If you can't beat them, sign them.

I just watched the video and generally agree with him. The companies he mentions have no interest in music preservation because they are driven by short term profits, especially if they are publicly traded companies; if they don't meet expectations, the market reacts and people lose their jobs, etc. This is not only the music business, of course. As in earlier times, it's up to collectors to preserve what they can and do their part to make sure music put out by smaller companies that exist for a short period of time are preserved. Perhaps some day the trend will be reversed. After all, who thought vinyl would make a comeback after the dawn of the cd age?

The last scene is indeed classic as is the last scene between Douglas and Menjou.

Thanks. It looks to be out of stock on Amazon. Will have to look elsewhere.

The weekly spin: why Paul Sherwen's death hurts
-
Paul Sherwen, who was the commentator (along with Phil Liggett) on English language broadcasts of the Tour de France, has passed away. When I saw the news today, my reaction, was "oh, no!" He was only 62 and died of heart failure. He will be sadly missed. The broadcasts just won't be the same without him. Mets, Marlins and Yankees are talking trade where Realmuto winds up on Mets, Syndergaard on Yankees and Marlins receive Yankee prospects. Whether it happens is another question but from what I've read Syndergaard winding up on Yankees is a real possibility. If that happens, can anyone say Happy Birthday David?
