  1. Maybe Lisa is Digby or whatever his name is.
  2. Great choices all, especially the Wynton disk.
  3. That and the Brookemeyer were the best of that series of reissues, not to denigrate the Mulligan or the Dex but the Jamal was really tops: an eye opener for me.
  4. Looks like Brownie made the case for me. Thank you. I had missed or glossed over the point that Kenny quoted. I don't think U.S. fans are as you say and I sincerely doubt that Australian fans are that way at all. As fans of countries that haven't been on the World Cup stage that long, I don't think we have earned the right to be "despicable" nor have we acted that way.
  5. Looks like the Mets may be almost ready to challenge the Braves. I hear they're still hoping for Manny. Notwithstanding two good signings, they still need to fix the catcher and second base situations and get another outfielder. The bullpen is a problem but then whose isn't? They also lost their premier pinch hitter so they have made strides but I don't know that they're there yet.
  6. Well, that seems like a cool dog anyway.
  7. P.L.M., My feelings about Barthez have to do with his performance for Man U. I have not seen him recently but some of his performances in the latter stages of his Manchester United career left a lot to be desired -- and I'm not a Manchester fan. I haven't seen him since he transferred to France since I don't have access to those matches or to the qualifying matches either.

FWIW (and this is from memory), the RVGs didn't even have the original liner notes because of the new regroupings.
  9. I don't know about repugnant but I don't think it's good form to be DWI with your kids in the car. Pretty bad in my view. Wonder what the cop -- or your wife -- said. If I were caught DWI, I don't think I'd post it and be held up to ridicule.
  10. You jest, of course

I'm assuming you have the RVG. If that's the case, look at the liner notes. It gives an explanation of why they did that. I remember when the RVG coming out that this caused a minor furor; Gary Giddins was quite critical of the reordering of the recordings.
  12. I may be having a brain lapse but wasn't Soul on Ice the Eldridge Cleaver book from the 60s. One of my favorites at the time.
  13. I have to agree with Brownie on this. Didn't Zidane retire but then get pressed back into service because of the French team's struggles? If Barthez is gone, good riddance. His moment in the sun was 1998 and that's gone. Too often, we don't like to admit when our heroes can no longer do what we remember them doing. Sad but true and sometimes better to cut the cord and move on.
  14. Bummer! I missed it. The computer is undergoing repair. Oh, well.
  15. Not that other states don't view this seriously, but in New Jersey it's a huge deal. You don't want to get into your car even slightly inebriated. As Harold Z said this is going to cost Randy. In this state it's just not worth it.
  16. Yes, but were you there with him
  17. Colors are cool.
  18. For those who might be thinking about getting this for yourselves or your kids, if you're reading this, it's too late. I got up at 4 today to wait on line to get one for my son. There were people who had been there since 9 last night and it rained here in Jersey quite heavily last night. I got there at 610 this morning and at about 745 they told us that they were out. So, basically, if you weren't there last night, you didn't get it. What we do for our kids.
  19. Juan Pierre is a nice player. His average fell by about 50 points this year but his runs, RBIs, doubles and triples didn't fall off that much, although his stolen bases didn't fall off that much.
  20. That indeed is terrible. I wish him the best.
  21. Being out in the burbs, we're not going to get much, certainly not like in the City -- and that's New York city -- there is no other city. However, in Madison, there was a place called Fat Boys that made pretty good subs.
  22. Yes, I agree with you and will forgive you that little bit of hyperbole. Maybe those two weren't junk but at the time -- and I still think so -- the Red Sox get a lot for not much. It always seems that when a big named player is moved, what comes back in return is not nearly the equal. In other words, we, the fans, can't believe that so and so team gave up that for a great player. The Red Sox have a problem. Manny says he wants to go, so they've lost bargaining room there already, the Angels have apparently lost interest and the Mets appear to be the only game in town. The Sox have a problem as to what they can get back. I'd rather not gut my team to get him. I'd rather build slowly.
  23. Yeah, she is but sort of an annoying voice.
  24. As far as Cameron goes, he was a good, but not great player, although he had a decent season this year. Not sure which player Dan was referring to about carrying Manny's son jock. If it's Cameron, that's kind of a dumb statement. He's not a great player but a very serviceable one. Omar Minaya didn't answer the question about Nady being part of another deal. About Manny coming to the Mets, they are the only team that seems to want him and you don't think Omar doesn't know this? Same thing for Delgado. I wonder if he thinks he made a mistake. If he's on the Mets this year, they probably make the playoffs. I don't think you'll see Milledge going for him. I remember when the Sox got Pedro, they didn't give up much; Pavano and some junk. Speaking of which, Carl had one good year and the Yank threw around the money. But I was never high on him. He'll probably stay just to show that he can do something. Mets have cash for Wagner with or without Cameron. They'll probably use that $7 million for something else. Let's face it, there isn't much out there this year so I think teams are not going to overspending like in the past.
