  1. I organize it alphabetically and also keep an alpha list of everything I buy. I think that's important so you what you have.
  2. Check this out from Soul Stream in response to a comment I made on a thread about Hank's Reach Out album: NO!!!!!! Grant Green's "I Want To Hold Your Hand" is absolute wonder. A lone Beatles cover done BEAUTIFULLY!!! Other than that, the titles are all straight ahead. One of the best organ albums ever made. GET THIS CD NOW!!!! Or forget about enjoying life.
  3. Isn't that the american system? Isn't that what drives this economy anyway?
  4. It is possible that you may be right. However, Mosaic's approach is complete and that's what they adhere to. Also, while not everything may be of interest to you or me, it may be of interest to others, especially researchers and teachers. Since this is probably the only time when the original Roulette masters may be available, it was a good idea to include everything in one issue.
  5. Does anybody have the Lonehill version. I'm curious as to how it sounds in light of the above discussion.
  6. Anatol, it is quite an honor to have you here and to finally solve the riddle of the "chronogical" spelling. This has been debate on these board before. Thanks to your wonderful efforts, I have been able to listen to much music that I would not otherwise have been able to.
  7. I can take Slim in small doses. I do like the session with Bird. I enjoy that. The JATP session: it's ok. I also happen to have the Classics. That's okay too. I'm just not sure I would have done an LPR for him.

    Art Taylor

I'm no drummer but isn't that what a drummer is supposed to essentially do: "swing the shit out of a song and really drive a band." That's what a drummer is supposed to. Soloing is a bonus. Maybe we don't fundamentally disagree but Cobb is no slouch.

Mike, What do you mean by this? I like AT but I also like Jimmy Cobb as well.
  10. I'm really enjoying the Tal Farlow set. This is a must have in my opinion.
  11. You know how I feel about this set
  12. Anybody mention Gerald Wiggins?

    Jazz & Blues

and Hank Mobley and what happened in the last 45 years except for some dude named Wynton (and I don't mean Kelly).
  14. I skipped all these. Just nothing there that I want to sink some cash into. Slim maybe but I find him tiring after awhile in general. I might consider the Tjader but that would be it for this group.
  15. I remember that cover from when I was a kid. I remember (as best as I can) it being pretty cool and Thelonious always stuck in the back of my mind although I couldn't tell you what for, at least not until I got interested in jazz.
  16. Is Rein De Graaf Swedish? I've enjoyed the material he's done. He did a cd with J.R. Monterose called Body and Soul on Blue Moon and Now's the Time on Timeless with a bunch of different saxophonists like Dex that's pretty nifty.
  17. People have already mentioned these but these are two of my favorites and I don't have enough of them: Arnold Ross and Claude Williamson Allen, any chance you can post some reminescences of Al Haig. I would love to hear some. Although you don't think of Bud as overlooked as a pianist, I think he's overlooked as a musician and not given enough credit for his contributions to bebop. I know that sounds like a ridiculous statement but I think it's true today. We think grandly of Bird, Dizzy, Monk, Klook and Max but not enough of Bud in my opinion.

    Grant Green

What have you listened to of Grant's. Perhaps we can make some recommendations.

    Grant Green

Take a look at this thread about Grant and Wes but don't overlook other guitarists either so you might want to check out this thread about Overlooked Guitarists also. I don't think you can consider him overlooked, esp. in view of the Mosaic treatment he received last year but give Tal Farlow a listen. His sound is quite magical.
  20. Hardbopjazz, Happy Birthday. Hope you spin and get some good discs today
  21. That would be bloody awful if Classics has reached the end of their run. They've brought out some music that we never would have had access to for the most part.
  22. Well, if you've had a good life and shared your treasures with your buddies, thereby going to heaven, your sound will be in "hi" fi.
  23. I assume this has not been reissued on cd. Pity.
  24. Is there such a box to be or are you just kiddin' around?
  25. Forget it! They're going to the triple reinforced vault w/me when I expire! Yeah, and with that attitude that might be sooner than later
