I don't think it matters how old you are. Have you heard the recent Frank Morgan cd City Nights. He's 71 and still going strong. There's also the Curtis Fuller cd, Up Jumped Spring. Sounds good to me. If you've got your chops, that's what counts and you could lose those at any age. Jazz Kat was right, btw. Kids say the darndes things

What does everybody collect besides music?

sicko! You can't be doing too well if you've only got one. Hope it's well preserved -
Ron, I believe alternates takes are worth having. They can be completely different at times than the master. However, there are various schools of thought on this. Looking at it a different way, I want every alternate take that's on the Bird Dial Savoy set. Where would we be without the famous alto break on Night in Tunisia? In addition, the Vee Jay Mosaics were loaded with alternates takes and I'm glad I have them. BTW, you can always program around them.

Eric, Thanks. He ultimately decided he didn't want one, that he'd use mine but kids do change their mind

Let the Binkmeister do it

My son and I collect metal toy soldiers from World War II, King and Country to be exact. Here's a sample of their incredibly detailed work. -
Congratulations Johnny E and welcome to member 1005, Milo!

This strikes me as a song that's very hard to mess up. I have heard countless versions and all beautifully haunting. My favorite is, of course, Bird's, with Don Byas' a close second.

I'm not sure dubious is the right word. They were originally issued by BN for a limited purpose. When they started showing up on the Fresh Sounds website and elsewhere, that went beyond the intended purpose.

Apparently too many people went on the grass and look at the results. -

I'm an in house corporate attorney who tries to keep sane by listening to jazz. -
Jim, Had no idea Eddie would sell them directly. That's great because I'm sure there must be more out there than the 3 I have. Do you know his address (I'm guessing it's something like eddiehiggins.com).

You're going back to number 4? -
Hiroshi doesn't charge $30 for a mini lp. That's why we generally order from him. Also, as a loyal customer, he will go out of his way to find some things that are generally OOP. I don't normally buy that many Venuses but if I'm putting in an order for other material, I might add in a Venus. However, a lot of the Venuses I've purchased I found locally for $20. The guy just happened to have them.

yes, definitely a big

I don't know how many called in vs. internet but I believe if you called in, you were to do it by credit card which is how I did it. The overall debt is apparently $700,000 so they will have to do this again unless maybe they're getting some matiching funds from somewhere else.

I'm partial to the Eddie Higgins cds. I don't have a lot of the others but the EH's are quite nice. I have the most recent Harold Mabern. It's ok but not as good as the EH's.

I haven't taken the plunge on this one yet but your rec. is all that I need!

Since we're into mentioning a bunch of labels, how about Xanadu? They put out some great stuff some of it still not in cd. I was listening to the Frank Butler lp this morning and while not a great date by any means it's a very nice and it would be nice to see this on cd.

Doubly correct. I missed this one but without the book, forget it. That's what a Mosaic, a Mosaic. I'd rather pay for the whole thing.

What the hell, as Ernie Banks might have said, let's get two!

Folks, there is only a couple of days before WCKR may be pulled off the air. If you can please pledge. The number is 212-851-2699 and the website is WKCR. Sorry to be repetitious about this, but this is very important to the future of jazz.

I think his thread got trashed because the music from both labels has been great. There have been some threads about why BN was better but Chris who worked for Prestige has thrown water on it. There was great music coming out from everywhere and I probably have almost as much of the Fantasy labels (Prestige, Riverside, Contemporary, New Jazz) as I do of Blue Note.

Well, this will be the first time that I listen to them so it could be awhole another galaxy!
