  1. You're killin' us (or trying to run up your post count). Get the bloody thing already or we'll be forced to take severe action :rsmile:

    Cream

Do you mean you haven't heard too much of their work or you don't really know them at all. If the latter, check out Live Cream or Disraeli Gears.

Of the material that I'd like to see Conned, the Tyrone Washington material isn't at the top of the list for me. As mentioned, I'd like to see the Elmo material come out.

Right on! I would add only on thing to that list: Where Is Brooklyn? Well, if you take the GW (George Washington) and get off on the Major Deegan and follow that to the Triboro Bridge, then get off at 278, that should take you there. Any questions?
  5. When I was a kid I was madly in love with her, very, very sexy and very sexy voice. Still love her!
  6. Ditto as to general sentiment but if I was just getting started I'd be excited about this list. It's a nice cross section of what the label is about. I don't have Think, Oblique, Judgement or Time for Tyner so I will probably give those a try.
  7. Bird Lives!
  8. Beam me up
  9. I have this set but am not completely wild about it and that's because of Woody's vocals. This has been oft discussed but I'm not a big fan of his singing. When it's instrumental this stuff is indeed great but there is a lot of vocals here so if you're not wild about his style of singing, I suggest you pass it up.
  10. Is it worth the extra money to go out and have these when you can have the US version (which is what I have) and save the money for something else. Probably not. They are, after all, alternate takes of the same song. So I agree with Late and Lon. If the question gets into the philosophy of pro and con on the idea of alternates take in general, I'm definitely on the pro side but I know others feel quite passionately on the con side, and it was either on this board or the BNBB that this very issue generated a lot of passion.
  11. I don't have those Japanese issues so it's hard for me to say but the Select will have very few. Actually, if I had the Savoys I wouldn't mind them.
  12. I don't think it matters how old you are. Have you heard the recent Frank Morgan cd City Nights. He's 71 and still going strong. There's also the Curtis Fuller cd, Up Jumped Spring. Sounds good to me. If you've got your chops, that's what counts and you could lose those at any age. Jazz Kat was right, btw. Kids say the darndes things
  13. sicko! You can't be doing too well if you've only got one. Hope it's well preserved
  14. Ron, I believe alternates takes are worth having. They can be completely different at times than the master. However, there are various schools of thought on this. Looking at it a different way, I want every alternate take that's on the Bird Dial Savoy set. Where would we be without the famous alto break on Night in Tunisia? In addition, the Vee Jay Mosaics were loaded with alternates takes and I'm glad I have them. BTW, you can always program around them.

Eric, Thanks. He ultimately decided he didn't want one, that he'd use mine but kids do change their mind
  16. Let the Binkmeister do it
  17. My son and I collect metal toy soldiers from World War II, King and Country to be exact. Here's a sample of their incredibly detailed work.
  18. Congratulations Johnny E and welcome to member 1005, Milo!
  19. This strikes me as a song that's very hard to mess up. I have heard countless versions and all beautifully haunting. My favorite is, of course, Bird's, with Don Byas' a close second.
  20. I'm not sure dubious is the right word. They were originally issued by BN for a limited purpose. When they started showing up on the Fresh Sounds website and elsewhere, that went beyond the intended purpose.
  21. Apparently too many people went on the grass and look at the results.
  22. I'm an in house corporate attorney who tries to keep sane by listening to jazz.
  23. Jim, Had no idea Eddie would sell them directly. That's great because I'm sure there must be more out there than the 3 I have. Do you know his address (I'm guessing it's something like eddiehiggins.com).
  24. In former lives I've been a Movie Usher - Saw the Graduate about 60 times. Still can't watch it today. Short Order cook - Shoney's Big Boy in Nashville Grade Change Clerk at a university Court Reporter - got to travel a lot
