  1. Save your rantings for the political forum
  2. This is a fabulous cd, especially the songs by Ernestine Anderson, particularly Social Call. The only person I've heard do this is Charlie Rouse on the Uptown release (no vocal) but this is a classic. I had planning to use it on my BFT but c'est la vie.
  3. Ah Catesta, ever good for a laugh
  4. 54, but young enough to become a Master of the Groove. Awwwright!
  5. Dan, I'm pullin' for you but the Red Sox have never beaten the Yanks in a big spot. God, I hope this is different. And that ad in the Boston papers about "Let's Go Yanks" reminds me that trite line about not wishing for certain things because you might get them. To me, this is a mental challenge for the franchise not physical because they definitely have the ability.
  6. I'm very careful because the boxes and book are delicate but I don't take them out enough, that is true. I like wolff's idea. Get a different one out weekly.
  7. Two thoughts come to mind: I wonder if the dog got a rise about it and it gives a whole new meaning to chokin' the chicken (or the lack thereof).
  8. RED SOX WIN! RED SOX WIN! RED SOX WIN! Ok, can somebody now peel Mr. Gould off the ceiling
  9. Africa Brass' post sounds like something I'd say. Picked up with Dance of Death and am listening to it now.
  10. Thanks for the responses. Hadn't tried them but will try it.
  11. I've been trying to locate this cd without too much luck. I"ve tried Dusty Groove, CD Universe and even had Borders try to special order it (they say they can't). If anyone has a copy they'd care to sell or a lead, please pm me. It's supposed to be rare, so that obviously makes it more difficult. Thanks.
  12. Thank you all it's very much appreciated. I'm celebrating today by picking up the Dexter Bopland set today plus Andrew's Dance with Death. Where else do you have a place with this with so many people wishing you a birthday. It's nice to be part of a family
  13. Ultimately, a good call to get rid of that thread. Funny thing is, Jim didn't want a debate and folks, we got an ol' fashioned debate goin' here. Which like most things here will eventually peter out until we get to the next one.
  14. I think you're selling yourself short with some of those buy it now options. Too cheap.
  15. I think clem and b3er state it well. When you hear Jimmy Smith in the milieu of other organists, it sounds like no big deal. That's why historical context is so important. I can appreciate what was going on back then and what a revelation he must have been, just like Bird must have been in his time. I know the first time I listened to Jimmy it blew me away. Same for Bird. I hadn't listened to a lot of organists so it was like he was unique for me. Unfortunately, I was only a toddler when Jimmy came on the scene and not even a glimpse when Bird came on his.
  16. From what I've read of United States of Mind, this sounds like something to avoid, especially with the Andy Bey vocals. Not my things. Unlike my previous thinking, I'll probably pick up the Hill plus the Hutch and the Larry Young. However, I can't say this group really blows me away. Also, it seems that BN is putting out everything Horace did. Why not release some other stuff. I'm getting tired of all these Horace releases. I'm sure many of us have the Rivers Mosaic so why put out a single release, at least so soon after his Mosaic has gone OOP. Heck, it can only be a couple of years.
  17. Happy Birthday Bill. Hope it's not too late. Mine's just around the corner.
  18. You should have do that right away, esp. with the popularity of this board. Try for a trademark also.
  19. EKEBBB, Amigo, esto no es nonsensico, es una barbaridad!
  20. De Franco and Clark are excellent. Buddy's solos are just non stop. The solo space 90% of the time is Buddy's and if you're expecting a lot of soloing from Sonny, you won't find them here. Sonny also plays organ in a few places.
  21. Speaking of the Imperial War Museum, I've never been to the one in Duxford, but I've been to the main one in London and it is very, very impressive. They've got a Blitz and a WWI exhibit where you're taken back to those times and I swear you feel like you're living the experience. In the Blitz, you're in the underground and the lights go out and bombs are blasting above you and the room shakes and it feels like you're the one being subjected to the bombing. If you're ever in London, don't miss this museum.
  22. Totally unnecessary. If that's the case, then I'll be lobbying for a Bop and a hard bop thread, not to mention a swing and traditional jazz forum.
  23. Couw, Thanks. Where did you get this from. On line?
  24. Yes, that would be helpful. I can't find anything on that ridiculous Verve web site.
  25. Bob Von Langen, who some of you may know, has emailed me (and others) the following, which may be of interest: fourteen (14) Chrono(lo)gical Classics ( France) of DUKE ELLINGTON and his orchestra are offered for a fixed price.... These fourteen CDs cover the period 1932 through 1946, considered by many to Duke's crown glory years...I have made a scan of the first and last CD in this superb series and hope that it will come through on your server/computer..if they don't and you would like an image , write me (bobvl@aol.com) and I will tru to send you the image individually). Every CD has between 20 and 23 tracks...all liner notes are in English and a full discography is included in the booklet.. Most CDs have photocopies of Jazz magazine reviews, which I gathered over the years.. Write me at bobvl@aol.com if you are interested
