  1. I think in recent years someone had to contact Jim to register them. I wonder if it might be easier if Jim S had that ability.
  2. My wife ordered this for me yesterday and got this odd message: Thanks for your order. It’s on-hold until we confirm that payment has been received. Have others received this type of message?
  3. Hoffman doesn’t seem to be.
  4. Funneling his inner Bart Scott.
  5. I won’t be waiting with bated breath.
  6. The only drawback is that they have a reputation for being slow shippers.
  7. Believe it was.
  8. I just listened to this album and wouldn’t describe them as hard bop at all. With the French horn and tenor playing in unison, harp and occasional voicings, I’d describe it as more classical with jazz mixed in, more like third stream although there is some straight ahead thrown in
  9. I have about 2,000 CDs and probably 300-400 LPs. I have almost reached my room capacity for CDs. I have sold some and will probably sell some more. I reached my LP capacity awhile ago and have limited shelving capacity. I will probably try to sell some to the local store in town and probably list some on eBay.
  10. I didn’t like Mastodon. Seemed too decentralized. BS looking like Twitter is a plus because people liked Twitter before Musk ruined it. Twitter, politically, is now on the right whereas BS is on the left. I don’t interact too much with politics on Twitter but sometimes running into the MAGAites is unavoidable. I’m glad not to have to see them on BS. FB does have some good jazz groups such as Jazz Vinyl Lovers and Blue Note Spinners, plus Mark Stryker and Allan Lowe have good commentary. IG also has some good people like Thomas Jordan, What Can Brown (who has a good YT channel, WCB Vinyl) and djpari.

    Verve Record Club

I’m not crazy about the idea but I’m probably not the customer they’re aiming at; I only have about a dozen TPs. Joe Harley told me on FB that they had received requests for a subscription service so go figure.
  12. LOL!
  13. I had my annual hearing test and my hearing worsened to the extent that the audiologist suggested an ochlear ear implant, which since that involves surgery to the head is not something I want to do; I had knee surgery this year and at this point I’ve seen enough doctors to last me awhile. She made adjustments and that seems to work well.
  14. I’ve always thought the sound was pretty good. I’m sure the audiophiles would probably complain a little bit. It would probably make a good Classic. Just as it’s been reissued in Japan in cd, it’s also been reissued in vinyl.
  15. My general rule is that if I have the cd I don’t purchase a TP and I have the cd.
  16. Larry Tye, who has written several biographies, including ones on RFK and Joe McCarthy, which were well received, has written a relatively new one (May 2024) called The Jazzmen about Ellington, Armstrong and Basie. He recently had an article in the NYT. How a Refuge on Rails Inspired Jazz Classics Has anyone read the book or thought about getting it?
  17. To me it’s a scam.
