  1. As long as it’s allowed, I will post when pertinent.
  2. I’m actually surprised that this thread even existed, let it alone that it was allowed to go on this long. There’s a reason that politics aren’t a good idea. They create ill feeling among us; the Hoffman forum must have had 20 different threads that were shut down. The last one dealt with both the Coronavirus and the demonstrations. Looks like the mods had enough because it’s gone too The world is bad enough. Let’s try to create a temporary diversion from it.
  3. A new book on Ornette Coleman has come out, “Ornette Coleman: The Territory and the Adventure,” by Maria Golia. Here’s a review, Lighting Out for the Territories With Ornette Coleman
  4. Further to Kh1858’s post on Smalls, see this article in the Times: Live From New York, It’s Jazz at a Distance
  5. Neither did I. This photo is very depressing. I participated in several Vietnam marches between 1969-71 and can’t recall ever seeing anything like this.
  6. Thanks for that but anything he says must be taken with several grains of salt as truth telling is, shall we say, not one of his strong suits.
  7. You can’t be serious, quoting one of his tweets. At any rate there is no distinction.
  8. Point out to me please where he’s made that distinction. The article I posted indicated that helicopters were used against citizens who were not looting or stealing. In addition, I don’t want the US military used against crimes such as larceny. That is the jurisdiction of local authorities. When the US military gets involved in that kind of police activity, it’s a very small step to a military takeover. Of all the people on the forum, I’m probably one of the few who have seen dictatorships firsthand. I lived in Brasil in 1964 when the military overthrew the popularly elected government of Joao Goulart and unleashed a reign of terror. I also lived in Spain during the reign of Franco and saw how they operated. Lastly, I was a masters candidate in Latin American Studies when Allende was overthrown. Those memories are seared into my being and I think we’re headed down that road.
  9. Here’s a story in the Times about the use of the military last night, which has been criticized by former commanders. Former Commanders Fault Trump’s Use of Troops Against Protesters “Gen. Martin E. Dempsey, a former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, wrote on Twitter that ‘America is not a battleground. Our fellow citizens are not the enemy.’”
  10. From the report it wasn’t the NG but the Army and I fully agree with you about the looting, vandalism, etc. That can’t be allowed to stand.
  11. A good one. There is a relatively new five cd set issued by Bear's Sonic Journals.
  12. Not when our military is declaring war on us. I obviously don’t wish this to happen but if the government uses the military to shut down peaceful protesters people are going to eventually fight back. The government is adding gas to the fire instead of cooling it. We are going to approach a state of civil war unless cooler heads can prevail.
  13. If you like train as opposed to air travel, particularly train travel in Europe, which is more glamorous than in the US, please read Anthony Lane’s The Enduring Romance of the Night Train I’ve enjoyed a few train trips myself.
  14. Tonight in Washington the military deployed a helicopter to scatter protestors. https://www.nytimes.com/2020/06/01/us/floyd-protests-live.html?action=click&module=Spotlight&pgtype=Homepage#link-465fbd22 Imagine that, our military deployed against us. Next time they try that I hope it gets shot down. Civil War is on the horizon.
  15. MLB has agreed to honor the deal for prorated salaries made in March but has offered to the players a 60 game season. The players had offered 114. Jeff Passan thinks the number of games is a negotiating ploy and that they will settle at 82.
  16. Do you mean this one, https://www.allmusic.com/album/fred-neil-mw0000345176
  17. I discovered him recently — can’t remember how exactly — and just purchased this. I’ve also picked up Folksong 65, on which he plays, also an Elektra release but have not gotten to that yet.
  18. Wonder if that was a call out of the blue or pre-arranged.
  19. Fred Neil Bleecker & McDougal. Reissued by Run Out Groove.
  20. QuarantineChat Brings Back Spontaneity (and Distraction) If you’re feeling isolated and/or alone, Quarantine Chat may be a perfect solution. “Phone calls with strangers can reintroduce random connections into our locked-down lives, and be a balm for loneliness and grief.”
