  2. sorry for misunderstanding your original question ttk. to make up for it, how about those wonderful covers?

  4. i get some of my music, computer, and electronic stuff from buy.com. for the past month or so, i've saved money using the google checkout feature explained in great detail below. and don't forget, most items at buy.com ship free if your purchase is over $30. enjoy. Google Explained Current Offer Get $20 off your Buy.com purchase of $50 or more (before shipping and tax) when you use Google Checkout. or Get $10 off your Buy.com purchase of $30 or more (before shipping and tax) when you use Google Checkout. Here is how you use Google Checkout: 1. Once you have found the product you would like to purchase click the "Buy Now" button on the product page. This will add the product to your shopping cart. Click Buy Now on Product Page 2. If you want to purchase more products, simply keep searching and navigating to the products you want. When you are finished selecting all your purchases, click "Proceed to Checkout". 3. Now for the important part - do NOT log in to Buy.com, instead select the Google Checkout option if you wish to use Google Checkout as your payment method. 4. Follow the Google Checkout process to complete your purchase at Buy.com Important Google Checkout features are as follows: • Credit/Debit Card Information - Your credit/debit card information is stored in your Google Checkout account. Charges to your credit card are made by Google Payment Corporation, and your credit/debit card information is not shared with Buy.com or any other merchant that uses Google Checkout. • Maintained Buy.com Communications - Once you have completed a purchase using Google Checkout, Buy.com will maintain communications with you regarding shipping, changes to the order, tracking and returns. These communications will be made to the email address listed in your Google Checkout account and are vital in providing you with important information regarding the fulfillment of your order. • Universal Purchase History - You will have a universal purchase history for all purchases made using Google Checkout whether from Buy.com or other merchants using Google Checkout. This universal purchase history will be maintained in your Google Checkout account. Important Restrictions regarding the use of Google Checkout are as follows: • Ineligible Items - Certain items are unavailable for purchase using Google Checkout. In addition to the items listed in Google’s Prohibited Products Policy, there are certain other items that are currently unavailable or that may become unavailable for use with Google Checkout (including, but not limited to, cell phones, market place items, digital downloads, magazines, extended warranties, pre-orders, on order items, items requiring the collection of Ca recycling fees and other special items). When your shopping cart contains items that cannot be purchased using Google Checkout, the Google Checkout button will appear grey and you will be unable to checkout using the Google Checkout process. The following is an example of what the Google Checkout button will look like when you have ineligible products in your basket. Google Checkout • Coupons – All Coupons are currently ineligible for use with Google Checkout. • Buy.com Purchase History – By using Google Checkout to make purchases on Buy.com, your purchase history for such purchases will be maintained solely in your Google Checkout account. Your purchase history for such purchases will not be maintained by Buy.com. All purchase history that you may have with Buy.com prior to using Google Checkout or with respect to purchases that you make without using Google Checkout will be maintained in your My Account at Buy.com.
  5. just make sure you read the fine print very carefully. there are some stipulations that could void the deal. in the case of multiple ebay purchases from same seller, you have to pay for them in one transaction and not separately. also, you have to pay through the ebay checkout on the ebay website and not through the paypal send money tab. i'll probably use this offer to buy a few jazz cds from the same seller, titles i haven't bought before because the buy it now price is a little higher than i wanted to spend.
  6. what, you want more? actually, chuck's response is pretty accurate. yes, they didn't simply copy the ugly 70s graphics. yes, they made up new cover art reflecting the look of blue note album covers of the time. and yes, the reissue of this series has been rather haphazard. as to whether they were succesful in accomplishing these goals, i think that's a subjective question. why not take a look at the titles below, then do a google image search for the covers and judge for yourself. Jazz Classics LT series (12 inch LP) * LT 987 Lee Morgan - Sonic Boom * LT 988 Wayne Shorter - The Soothsayer * LT 989 Dexter Gordon - Clubhouse * LT 990 Grant Green - Solid * LT 991 Donald Byrd - Chant * LT 992 Jimmy Smith - Confirmation * LT 993 Stanley Turrentine - New Time Shuffle * LT 994 Jackie McLean - Consequence * LT 995 Hank Mobley - A Slice of the Top * LT 996 Bobby Hutcherson - Spiral * LT 1028 Lou Donaldson - Midnight Sun * LT 1030 Andrew Hill - Dance with Death * LT 1031 Lee Morgan - Taru * LT 1032 Grant Green - Nigeria * LWB 1033 Horace Silver - Silver 'n Strings Play the Music of Spheres * LT 1037 Stanley Turrentine - In Memory Of * LT 1038 Larry Young - Mother Ship * LT 1044 Bobby Hutcherson - Patterns * LT 1045 Hank Mobley - Thinking of Home * LT 1046 The Jazz Crusaders - Live Sides * LT 1051 Dexter Gordon - Landslide * LT 1052 Ike Quebec - With a Song in My Heart * LT 1053 Joe Pass - The Complete "Catch Me!" Sessions * LT 1054 Jimmy Smith - Cool Blues * LT 1055 Vic Dickenson/Bobby Hackett - Mainstreamin' (not released) * LT 1056 Wayne Shorter - Etcetera * LT 1057 Harold Land - Take Aim * LT 1058 Lee Morgan - Tom Cat * LT 1064 Art Pepper - Omega Alpha * LT 1065 Art Blakey - Once Upon a Groove * LT 1075 Stanley Turrentine - Mr. Natural * LT 1076 Leo Parker - Rollin' with Leo * LT 1081 Hank Mobley - Third Season * LT 1082 Blue Mitchell - Step Lightly * LT 1085 Jackie McLean - Vertigo * LT 1086 Bobby Hutcherson - Medina * LT 1088 Art Blakey - Africaine * LT 1089 Ike Quebec - Congo Lament * LT 1091 Lee Morgan - Infinity * LT 1092 Jimmy Smith - On the Sunny Side * LT 1095 Stanley Turrentine - Ain't No Way * LT 1096 Donald Byrd - The Creeper * LT 1100 Bob Brookmeyer/Bill Evans - As Time Goes By * LT 1101 Gerry Mulligan - Freeway * LT 1102 Jean-Luc Ponty Live at Donte's * LT 1103 Joe Pass - Joy Spring
  7. exactly when did say blacks should be lynched? he lost control, no question about it. but to label him a racist based on this solitary incident is wrong imo. he used hateful, racial language to express his anger and frustration, and i find that offensive. but you'd be surprised how many seemingly decent people are capable of lashing out angrily in stressful situations, saying horrible things. listen, richards sincerely apologized in public shortly after the incident. that counts for something in my book. our political leaders could learn a thing or two from this example of how to accept responsibility instead of spinning and covering up.
  8. and what's wrong with a dreary christmas? Merry Christmas , I hope you have a white one , For me its blue. Blue Christmas , that’s the way you see it when you’re feeling blue Blue Xmas , when you’re blue at Christmas time you see right through , All the waste , all the sham , all the haste , And plain old bad taste . Side walk Santa Claus’s are much , much too thin , They’re wearing rented costumes , false beards and big fat phony grins , And nearly everybodys standing round and holding out their empty hand or tin cup . Gimme gimme gimme , gimme gimme , Fill my stocking up . All the way up . It’s a time when the greedy give a dime to the needy . Blue Christmas , all the paper tinsel and the fal de ral , Blue Xmas , people trading gifts that matter not at all . What I call , Fal de ral , Bitter doll……..Fal de ral. Lots of hungry homeless children in your own back yards , While you’re very very busy addressing , Twenty zillion Christmas cards . Now Yuletide is the season to receive or to give or to share , But all you decent do gooders rush around and rant and rave and loudly blare Merry Christmas , I hope yours is a bright one But for me it bleeds . Blue Christmas (To whom it may concern ) Miles Davis 1962
  9. thanks for the input guys. i'm going to do it, and i'll raise a brew to salute my jazz buddies while i'm there. btw, you're all invited to my colonoscopy party later this year!
  10. yes, but it takes four hours to get there by train and costs $160. it takes an hour by air and costs only $130.
  11. i turn 50 on january 1st. i want to celebrate half a century of living and over 30 years of loving jazz by going to see some live music. trouble is, there's no decent jazz on new year's eve in boston. in fact, it looks like there's an unwritten rule that the only jazz you can see in most venues is dixieland, vocalists, and (gulp) smooth cross-over crap. so i look to the obvious choice: new york city, where smoke is featuring one for all. here's my dilemma: i have family commitments on the 30th and in the evening of the 1st. also, i don't want to pay a ridiculous amount of money for a hotel room on new year's eve. so here's my plan: fly to nyc in the afternoon of the 31st. see two sets of one for all, then take the 6:25am flight back to boston. sleep for several hours, then go to my brother's for my birthday dinner. so what do you say? crazy? remember, i ain't 21 anymore.
  12. "body armor or not, tell mr. bush this kid is NOT going to iraq!"

  16. palance in his 1953 role as jack wilson in shane
  17. for me, one of the joys of working out at the gym is having the chance to listen to one or two jazz albums uninterrupted. however, i don't choose the music based on what will pump me up or keep me going. i like a variety of tempos, since i typically vary my workout to include aerobics, strengthening and building exercises, etc. that being said, it's unlikely i'll listen to an ecm recording at the gym. instead, i look for something new that i haven't had much of a chance to listen to. othewise, i'm looking for passionate solos that i can focus my attention on, rather than the feelings of fatigue or discomfort that accompany this soon-to-be 50-year-old body.
  18. that's shocking! what an insult! to prove my allegiance to you, i will not buy the new edition! btw, love your new walker.
  19. i stayed away from the 7th edition due to the absent index. to be fair, it wasn't the authors' doing. from what i remember, the publisher put restraints on the length of the book, limits that would have been exceeded had the index been included (the 6th edition's index was 127 pages long!). even with the errors, imo it's still the best book of its kind.
  20. no, but i can search just about anything!
  21. From a Lalo Schifrin website: "The jazz combo that performs Schifrin's "A Song For Kathy" in the film is said by singer Susanna Van Tassel to be her father's Bay area combo. The film's star, Steve McQueen, saw the group perform once and asked them to appear in the film." Van Tassel's father is the guitar player in question, not Martino.
  22. i came across this impressive website dedicated to tony scott that includes a discography/record gallery, extensive biography, galleries of photos and pictures of scott's own artwork, etc. check it out: the musical universe of tony scott
