  1. i wholeheartedly agree.
  2. this thread should be retitled jazz artists that i don't like as much as other people do, then we can have the same old arguments between those that do and those that don't. what i'd like to see are recommendations about artists i've never heard of. hmm, i think i'll start my own thread!
  3. According to eBay: Disputes over items not received or received but significantly not as described can usually be resolved by direct communication between buyers and sellers. eBay provides an online process to help facilitate communication. eBay’s User Agreement state that sellers must deliver the items that buyers purchase from them. Here the link to that portion of eBay's buyer protection program: items not delivered
  4. generally speaking: selects - yes, box sets - no

  6. are you saying there is something wrong with the sound? if so, what do you hear?
  7. happy birthday hans!
  8. pell recorded i'm an old cowhand in september of 1956. newk's version came 6 months later in march of 1957. johnny mercer wrote the tune in 1936. it was his first big hit and was used in the film rhythm on the range, starring singing rodeo cowboy bing crosby and featuring the sons of the pioneers with roy rogers. the song was popularized that same year by bing fronting jimmy dorsey's orchestra. over the next 20 years, cowhand was recorded by many artists, including bunny berigan, jack teagarden, roy rogers and sons of the pioneers, frank sinatra, and ray conniff.
  9. kudos to the hair stylist who refused to shave her head. jeers to the tattoo artist(s) who inked a young woman who obviously is in crisis. remember, in the 24 hours prior to these events, britney entered and then quickly exited a rehab program. anyone exhibiting these kinds of impulsive behaviors is not thinking clearly, and is likely to engage in further erratic and potentially dangerous behavior. i hope she doesn't end up like anna nicole.
  10. anything?
  11. have you tried loading it in the computer and using a program that's linked to the freedb.org database to see if it can identify it?
  12. pm'd you about several more discs.
  13. fyi, both collectables and gambit have recently reissued first place again. i'm sure the usual caveats apply.
  14. if i'm not mistaken, nat uses a varitone attachment to his horn on some of these dates. that's the kiss of death in my book.
  15. again, i draw people's attention to amazon's policy, to which they apparently turn a blind eye, to their discredit:
  16. from caiman's website: Why are certain items not available right away? Our catalogue contains more than 2.000.000 items which obviously does not allow us to have everything in stock at once. If part of your order must come from one of our suppliers, a few days must be added to our average delivery time (some of our products are ordered from international suppliers which can take a little more time). We therefore dispatch these items to you a few days later. from amazon marketplace: Sellers at Amazon Marketplace are expected to abide by the following Community Rules: Delayed shipments or pre-sells are prohibited. Items offered through Amazon Marketplace must be shipped within two business days of the close of a sale. In the event that an item you are offering will not be available for immediate delivery, alert your transaction partner and initiate any necessary refunds. It is important to maintain accurate inventory records, as instances of "stock-outs" could be reflected in your seller feedback rating.
  17. well, it's time to add me to the list of dissatisfied caiman customers. same old story - ordered a title. received confirmation of the order, then nothing. after a few weeks, they responded to my email saying that it was "backordered," and i could cancel the order if i wished. i did, and i noticed they removed the listing a few days later. a couple of weeks pass and they relist the cd. i email them, asking if they have it now. no reply. there's a seller whom i had previously tried to get this cd from, but it was out of stock. she just emailed me to let me know she has it now. i ordered it, and i'll share with you the two emails i got from her: #1 Robbo - Thank you for the vote of confidence. Just out of curiosity.. did you try ordering it from Caiman on amazon.com? They buy from me and re-sell on amazon.com... I haven't shipped them that product in weeks because I haven't had it. I was just wondering if you bought it from them and were unsuccessful. Anyway, enjoy the CD! It's very rare, as you know. I'm glad we got you a copy. #2 Rob - I hate Caiman with every bone in my body. What a sleezy, lying, disrespectful company. If it were up to me, we would not have them as a customer. I hope they rot in hell. I think that sums it up nicely.
  18. happy birthday michael! and thanks for all the great music you share with us.
  19. lady biker boots?
  20. thanks for the reminder. steve's a great guy and a strong promoter of jazz in my neck of the woods. i'm glad michael is getting the props he deserves.
