  1. mark will also be playing gigs with his trio "fly" in the very near future. i plan to catch them in boston in april.
  2. i could be wrong, but i thought it was the shipper who had to file any damage claims. everyone here seems to suspect a scam, but it ain't necessarily so. and "taken apart" could simply mean that he opened the chassis (easily done) and discovered the damaged board. personally, i'd assume everything is legit until you have proof otherwise. and by that i mean that the buyer has some burden of proof to show you that the board is damaged and the amp is inoperative. you haven't made it clear whether the box and/or the amp showed signs of visible damage. if not, maybe the buyer could bring the amp to a technician to verify that the board is indeed damaged and offer an opinion as to what the possible cause might be. otherwise, he could ship it back to you and you could have it inspected. if the amp is broken and there is no evidence of foul play, i assume you would refund the original purchase price and all shipping costs. of course, i offer this advice under the assumption that the amp isn't too old and is still worth some money. if not, you may want to just write it off and get the amp returned to you before forking over any money. although i try to be a trusting soul, there's no way i'd issue a refund just on the buyer's say-so, allowing him to keep the "damaged" amp.
  3. the seller claims: Selling my DJ company with the most famous phone number in HISTORY.... 867-5309! i say POPPYCOCK! the number is PEnnsylvania 6-5000!
  4. I hope you'll grant me some latitude here, since this gaffe does not come from a CD's liner notes or packaging. In a review of a Mike DiRubbo disc, Scott Yanow writes: Owned by Cory Weeds, the Cellar Restaurant in Vancouver is considered one of the world's top jazz clubs. The success of Weeds' club has led logically to his formation of the Cellar Live label. On February 2, 2006, the Cellar was host to a top-notch New York quartet. Altoist Mike DiRubbo... The title of the reviewed disc? New York Accent - Live at the Kitano
  5. Q: What did one Deadhead say to another after he ran out of pot? A: Man, this band sucks! Q: How many Deadheads does it take to screw in a light bulb? A: Deadheads don’t screw in light bulbs, they screw in Volkswagen Buses. Q: How do you know when a Deadhead has broken up with his girlfriend? A: He’s homeless. Q: Where do you hide money from a Deadhead? A: Under the soap. These jokes are offered in the spirit of friendly ribbing. If you are offended, listen to some Dead and chill out.
  6. my aim ain't that good anymore. i'm sure my associate here will stand in for me if need be.
  7. Lost in Space Actor Bob May dies at 69 in Calif. Jan. 18, 2009, 8:26 PM EST LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Bob May, who donned The Robot's suit in the hit 1960s television show "Lost in Space," has died. He was 69. May died Sunday of congestive heart failure at a hospital in Lancaster, said his daughter, Deborah May. He was a veteran actor and stuntman who had appeared in movies, TV shows and on the vaudeville stage when he was tapped by "Lost in Space" creator Irwin Allen to play the Robinson family's loyal metal sidekick in the series that debuted in 1965. "He always said he got the job because he fit in the robot suit," said June Lockhart, who played family matriarch Maureen Robinson. "It was one of those wonderful Hollywood stories. He just happened to be on the studio lot when someone saw him and sent him to see Irwin Allen about the part. Allen said, 'If you can fit in the suit, you've got the job.'" rest of story here: Bob May obit
  8. Sounds like a good name for a band. actually, it was a good name for an abc sitcom that ran from 1998-2001. two of the three actors who starred in the show have gone on to other movie and tv roles - ryan reynolds starred in national lampoon's van wilder, and appeared in blade: trinity. traylor howard currently plays "natalie" on the tv show monk. i liked the guy-girl-pizza show partly because it was set in boston. both of the guys went to tufts university and worked at "beacon street pizza."
  9. Hi folks. I hope you all enjoyed whatever holiday you recently celebrated, and that you find peace, satisfaction, and some rare oop items in the coming new year. I have a question for you. I have been looking at several releases by Elton Dean on the Slam and Cuneiform labels, and some of these feature cover paintings by John Gardiner. I was unsuccessful in obtaining more info about this person, so I've come to you. Is this John Gardiner a famous or noteworthy painter? How can I find out more about him, and hopefully, see more of his paintings? Thanks in advance.
  10. i can think of an episode or two in which her presence was welcome.
  11. my family instituted a one person-one gift rule this year. there was only one thing on my list, and i got it: mosaic's arista recordings of anthony braxton. i've got some good listening ahead. thanks santa.
  12. thanks a lot, joe. it really is a beautiful recording. i like both guitarists, especially diorio. when someone tells me they like metheny, i say "really?"and then play some diorio for them.
  13. hi and happy holidays to you all. i'm looking for some info on a wonderful recording by guitarists mick goodrick and joe diorio called rare birds. i believe it was recorded in 1993 and released on the italian ram records label (rmcd4505). what i'd like to know is the exact date and location of the recording, the names of engineer(s) and producer(s), and also any editing or mastering info you might have. thanks very much in advance.
  14. "popups for porn" is a good name for a band, don't you think?

    Prince Lasha RIP

i regret never having seen lasha perform live, but i have enjoyed searching out and listening to his recordings over the past few years. right now, i'm listening to it is revealed, which also features sonny simmons, clifford jordan, don cherry, fred lyman, bill wood, orwille harrisson, and charles moffett. very moving, intense, and spiritual music. rest in peace, william lawsha.
  16. i dunno dude. i heard that before she got into modeling, she and a group of her friends made a hobby of trading album covers with sexy photos on 'em. they say that's how it all started.
  17. My fellow Americans, I have not been entirely truthful with you. I did gagoogidy that girl. I gashmoygadied her gaflavity with my googus. And I am sorry.
  18. fantastic! but this really belongs in the p & r forum, doesn't it?
  19. I like Stereo Jack's because... ... it's the best place to run into other quirky jazz fans like yourself. ... it's got great $2 bins (explore some different sounds) ... you may get rung up by the great multi-reedist Charlie Kohlhase. ... or you can get some good advice or maybe hear an interesting piece of jazz history as told by Jack himself. ... it's my Cheers. now if i could only get Jack to sell beer and allow cigar-smoking in the store. support your local record store by buying new cds and lps, and selling them unwanted titles from your collection for their used section. it's the circle of life.
  20. wow! you're not kidding about those negative amazon opinions. i don't think i'd trust my cds in that product. that being said, it's fair to say that most of our collections are steadily expanding, and the need for maximizing space is increasingly important. currently, all of my burned cds are in maxi-slims, and all of the non-jazz discs are in polyethylene sleeves that hold the booklet and backer as well. whatever size or type of sleeve you choose (flap, resealable flap, no flap), i think you can be confident that a product purchased from bags unlimited will be of high quality, safe for your cds, and a good buy. remember, their prices include shipping, which always adds a lot to the total purchase price. here's a link to the page describing their cd sleeves: bags here's a link to request a catalog where you can receive free samples of any two kinds of their sleeves: catalog/samples and finally, yes it's really me. i'm sorry for the way in which i expressed my opinions to you elsewhere. although i can't really sympathize with that other situation, i've got to learn better ways of telling someone they're full of shit if i want to be taken seriously.
  21. wrong, peter. my post here preceded your "thank you thread." wrong, again. i made my reasons known quite clearly and succinctly. you publicly identified a board member as running a blog that features download links to copyrighted material, and you did so on a board operated by three musicians who have clearly stated that they don't want their band associated with illegal file sharing. why you think you should have left this untouched is beyond me. and btw, you can delete any thread you created at any time. if you don't know how, just ask. and once again, wrong (a perfect trifecta!). i have no objections to your downloading music, legally or otherwise. i also don't care if you extol the virtues of such activities here or anywhere else. why should I, for I have done it myself. again, if you want to understand my objections, go back to the previous response. dude, i don't know you, so i can't really like or dislike you as a person. i just have had a problem with some of your behavior and what i perceive as a fairly immature attitude. want another example? how about the fact that you've uploaded my picture into your profile as your own personal photo. what's up with that? is that supposed to make me angry, or give me a "heart attack/stroke?" actually, i got a good startle, followed by a hearty laugh. in the end, you can grow up or not, it doesn't matter much to me anymore. and just so other members can enjoy the laugh too, here's the photo peter has chosen to include in his profile, shot by our own mark sheldon outside a bbq joint in nyc. that's me on the right.
