  1. Thank you so much for posting this. I've found several things that I had to get with immediately: The Bobby Hutcherson Harold Land Antibes show and the Art Ensemble 1980 Chicago Jazz Fest set (which I listened to on Jazz Alive when originally broadcast). Thanks.
  2. For some reason, I really enjoy hearing Joe Maini on tenor (!) here.
  3. Oscar Pettiford was born at Okmulgee, Oklahoma. His mother was Choctaw, and his father was half Cherokee and half African American.
  4. Thanks for making me aware of this: this was "the new Mingus record" when I was brand new to the music.
  5. Hadn't pulled this one out in a while-found my appreciation had grown.
  6. Love that Mildred Bailey session and the Red Norvo selections!
  7. And yet there he was with Mingus when I saw them in 1976.
  8. The sessions with Irving Randolph are doing it for me!
  9. I've been listening to a good deal of Jelly Roll Morton and loving it, but I haven't investigated the piano rolls.
  10. Wow! Love Maxine-I suppose that my three Chronological Classics covers this material, but I'm still thinking about this!
  11. This is the Zappa Estate deluxe version released a couple of years back and well worth examining.
  12. I didn't understand it when I was 16, but I soon got it and have enjoyed it every time I've listened to it since then.
  13. Mr. B Chuck D Kenny G
  14. You are correct. What I thought was the entire series is just the first season.
  15. The entire series is available on Amazon-for free if you have Prime.
  16. This one has remained steadily in rotation since it came out.
  17. These very compilations were not only eye-opening, but easily available at my local library.
