  1. It's not overt, and clearly neither Joe Pass nor Jim Hall were metal heads, but if you listen to the instrumentals on the first three records, and Bill Ward is a terrific percussionist on these tracks, you hear hints; however, the interlude between Hole in the Sky and Symptom of the Universe tracks one and two on Sabotage is a terrific example:
  2. So happy to have it. So different and unique. Terrific record.
  3. Side story relating to the Alamo, is when I went there with my ex-wife and kids back in the late 90's, my younger daughter dropped her doll in the mote at the Alamo (and those carp are huge!) needless, I risked losing my arm to get it. Back at the hotel, when we checked out, she leaves the same doll in the hotel room, that I almost lost an arm over. So, we call the hotel and have it shipped back home, only for her to leave it at a restuarant back home. That doll has a story to tell!
  4. FWIW, Tony Iommi's got chops. He talks in an interview (can't remember where or when, 1990's maybe?) that he really liked Pacific Jazz Records and cites Jim Hall and Joe Pass as influences. Influenced by Bach as well. I'll just skip over the usual Beatles talk, Ozzy had made clear the Beatles changed everything talk. ๐Ÿ˜Š Yeah, what he did there was totally disrespectful, and I think he was cited (not arrested) by the park police, but this was a period when Ozzy was totally blasted nearly every day and night (recall he snorted ants with Nikki Sixx, when on tour with Motley Crue, back in the mid-eighties).
  5. Great photo. So interesting that Hutcherson never wore a suit in the 60's-70's but wore a suit/tux in the 80's thereafter; e.g., to: What an incredible career, an incredible muscian.
  6. Haha. She's the artsy one, it's the reason why I am a member๐Ÿซ
  7. Huge! Love Hutch, never got to see him live nor Jackie. Some of you did. Destination...Out!!
  8. I already booked a flight! ๐Ÿ˜
  9. Cool space, but uhhhhhhh, don't tell the wife how much I like that painting to the far right ๐Ÿค”
  10. This band, If? Seems logical to me: Imagine a reunion tour, they can rename themselves "Then" and start a rock 'n' roll conditional! ๐Ÿ˜Ž
  11. Yeah! Love these stories! I didn't play trumpet (though my wife bought me one a couple of years ago, so I tinker with it) but was 1st chair claranet in advanced middle school and high school concert band, and the only other one out of two in Florida to play contra bass claranet; but maybe this would've not happened at all, if it wasn't for my mom, buying Chuck Magione, Grover Washington Junior, Spyro Gyra, etc., albums in the late 70's for me, and consequently, that's what really got me into jazz. So, thank you, Mom and thank you, Chuck! In tribute:
  12. I like what you say here. The whole Black Sabbath gimic with the devil worshipping, wearing crosses, etc., was all part of the show. None of them were really into it and was part of the act. Outside of that, they were all just a bunch of blokes from Birmingham that were on the ride of their lives.
  13. RIP. Grew up listening to Chuck Mangione in the late 70's early 80's and he had an impact on me was in concert band in middle and high school. One my favorites:
  14. Right!?!?!? Never seen Herbie live, he can play Yankee Doodle Dandee out his asshole (quoting Nat'l Lampoon's Vacation) for all I care. I've seen the Wayne Shorter Quartet (front row seats!) and Ron Carter, both about 25 years ago, and they could've played a similar set list, and I wouldn't (don't) regret a second of it. So whatever Herbie plays, I am going to enjoy. Here's the band: Herbie Hancock, keyboard Terence Blanchard, trumpet James Genus, bass Lionel Loueke, guitar & vocals Jaylen Petinaud, drums
  15. This is so cool!!! Speaking of Ozzy as a tv personality, I did enjoy watching the "The Osbournes Want to Believe" on The Travel Channel hosted by his son Jack.
  16. Wall Street Journal too, as well as all the papers here in northeast Ohio, even the paper in the county I live in. CNN online has a nice area devoted to Ozzy as well. Yes, agree. first five albums, plus a six, Sabotage being my favorite: The birth of thrash metal can be heard here: Becomes clear, especially early Metallica that they wouln't have sounded the way they did, if it wasn't for this track. I believe Metallica played Symptom of the Universe at the Birmingham Black Sabbath festival. About Ozzy, agree Blizzard of Oz and Diary of a Madman (Bark at the Moon gets an honorable mention) sent Ozzy into the stratusphere.
  17. RIP! This is very sad news, but Ozzy hasn't been well for some time, so this doesn't come as an absolute shock to me. But still, it's OZZY! Huge Black Sabbath fan, but only got to see Ozzy perform live in '85, during his flashier phase. Encores were Sabbath tunes, War Pigs and Iron Man, I believe were them.
  18. I agree with you, never saw the set in person and never had a chance at it.
  19. $14.00 or so? Wow, that's not a bad price at all. Wasn't this set going for insane prices a year or two ago?
  20. Mistake, that's not LA; dude was in Miami in that hi-fli Vette, wow. Grew up in Florida, I can verfify those are Florida palm trees ๐Ÿ˜Ž
  21. I did the same. It was nice to RVG the first round of Connoisseurs (Components and Empty Foxhole excluded) but I kept a few Conns over RVG treatment, e.g. McLean's Destination Out! (sounded good to me). I'm too, a fan of the BN 10'' Connies series and just added the Foster/Wallington set (thank you, John!) to that amazing batch; only missing the Gil Melle 2CD set, but I have a TOCJ copy of Patterns in Jazz, so I feel I have them all. ๐Ÿ˜
  22. We already bought tickets, going to imagine it is going to sell out. https://www.clevelandorchestra.com/attend/concerts-and-events/2526/other-events/herbie-hancock/ Last major jazz performance I attended at Severance was Sonny Rollins in 2001. But wow, what a treat this is going to be!
